AIBU to think some people are going to miss covid

SuddenArborealStop · 01/05/2021 22:27

There's been threads all with people hand wringing about what the neighbours are up to and who's breaking what covid regulations.
The threads are still happening but seem to be fast losing support as most people are more than happy to resume regular life and appreciate the lowering risk.
AIBU to think some people are going to miss the easy social judgement covid made available to them and they'll miss curtain twitching and pretending to worry about their neighbours when their grandchildren enter the house 1 day earlier than a regulation change.

@Poorlykitten

What’s there to miss? You do realise it’s not going anywhere...?
Lockdown is though Social distancing, rules of 6, no indoor gatherings and all that are on their way out Are you a lockdown reveller?
jumpbounce · 01/05/2021 23:16

@TheKeatingFive

it would seem there's just a demand for a rush back to the 'old normal' rat race again for reasons I will never understand.

Surely you get that not everyone has the same priorities, preferences and needs as you?

Absolutely I get that however the benefits of less commuting to society as a whole, environmental, work life balance, financial really is quite a lot to just ignore because it better suits some people to be back to how it was before. Of course it won't suit everyone but it doesn't mean that the conversation shouldn't be had and we should just revert back to the old normal without taking a look at some of the benefits and embracing new ways of working in various areas. Maybe the people, clearly like yourself, who have different priorities are just too fearful of any change even if that change could be a positive!
MrsPeacockInTheLibrary · 01/05/2021 23:17

What are you basing your supposition on that it is/or will be 'gone' to miss?

Thatisnotwhatisaid · 01/05/2021 23:17

Oh yes the pedants will miss it greatly. You can’t possibly meet up for a coffee, there’s seven of you! What do you mean you want a sleepover? It’s a whole day before the rules change. Visiting your second home the day before the government allow it? I won’t hear of it.

The thought police, in other words.

Redjumper1 · 01/05/2021 23:17

Those with difficult ILs and parents will miss it as it gave them a break. They probably could also see how much nicer life is when not dealing with difficult family members.

Gregorsgirl · 01/05/2021 23:17

Yup some people, the rule loving type have had a field day. I was quite worried that our whole way of life would change for good, but I think humans are pretty resilient, also most people will do whatever the frig they want despite appearances.

Poorlykitten · 01/05/2021 23:20

@Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep no idea what a ‘lockdown reveller’ might be but specifically the question was ‘AIBU to think some people will miss Covid?’ Not ‘AIBU to think some people will miss lockdown?’ Which is entirely different. Covid is with us for the long term now so will always have to be managed.

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep · 01/05/2021 23:22

A person who revels in lockdown
I'm sure you could pick up from the context that the OP meant lockdown not actual covid

tecatea · 01/05/2021 23:23

Will there be no lasting changes? I already wfh 50/50 which is perfect for me but DH has gone from 1-2 days wfh a fortnight to when the office does re open to 2-3 days a wk wfh. I don't know anyone going back to 5 days in the office.

TrainspottingWelsh · 01/05/2021 23:24

I can see a tattoo industry boom, as hundreds of thousands of conservative people clad in M&S and boden rush out to get 'covid keyworker' prominently emblazoned in readiness for the time they can no longer drop it into every sentence.

Unfortunately I suspect the covid deranged will just start bleating about how we should go full Wuhan lockdown for annual flu.

TheKeatingFive · 01/05/2021 23:24

Well I’m someone who organised my life carefully before all this, so that I wasn’t dealing with the issues you’re talking about.

But I’m neither here nor there. I have no power in the grand scheme of things.

What I don’t understand is the expectation that employers would be up for change, if maintaining the status quo suited them better. They’re the ones who call the shots.

ilovesooty · 01/05/2021 23:24

@HazeyJaneII

I hope the arseholery about people having concerns and some of the absolute horse shiteshite spouted on here calling people lockdown lovers etc (christ that one is getting tired) disappears.
Couldn't agree more.
cakewitch · 01/05/2021 23:24

Yes.. if there's only one thing these people love more than strictly sticking to the rules, it's the fabulous opportunity to be self righteous when they see someone not complying with them.

TheKeatingFive · 01/05/2021 23:25

I don't know anyone going back to 5 days in the office.

My business is as soon as feasible. Thankfully.

dotdashdashdash · 01/05/2021 23:25

I'll miss the lack of social obligations and the lack of children's birthday parties. COVID has made me realise I'm an introvert, and I'll be much more cautious and discerning about who I give my energy for in future. I will not miss FFP3 masks and my ICU made from odds and sods in the spares cupboard!

This.
tecatea · 01/05/2021 23:28

Well that's good as that's what you prefer. I worked 50/50 throughout lockdown which was good for me as I couldn't stand to be home all the time.

Poorlykitten · 01/05/2021 23:28

Obviously I didn’t or I wouldn’t have posted. 🙄 it’s not clear from the title and many people seem to think we will live a covid free life at some point, so actually not beyond the realms of possibility that the OP meant exactly that. I imagine a lockdown reveller is someone that partied their way through lockdown? See, it pays to be clear and concise so it’s not confusing the issue.

tecatea · 01/05/2021 23:30

Agree with this & for some moving to increased remote working will be better for their margins.

Exactly. Thankfully because it suits you but I'm sure there there be others in your office who would prefer to keep the new balance. Not everyone believes in presenteeism and working themselves into the ground, many people have been as, if not more productive from home and it is something that should be discussed at government level so employers can't force the status quo. Climate change has been on tbe agenda for years and now we have the ability to have learnt something from covid and keep some small changes like less days commuting but some people like yourself are just too averse to the change.
ilovesooty · 01/05/2021 23:32

I doubt there are many people who've actively enjoyed being restricted all this time.

Doesn't stop people from shoehorning that accusation into just about every discussion though. It's really tiresome.

ssd · 01/05/2021 23:32

I dont know any curtain twitchers in real life. Maybe i don't live in the same places as most mn stalwarts. Thank fuck for that.

Giantrooster · 01/05/2021 23:35

Well posters can always find something to take a snipe at others, as this thread proves.

Tambora · 01/05/2021 23:40

People will always be judgemental about other people. The topic might change, but the inclination stays the same.

drspouse · 01/05/2021 23:41

I will miss not having a chest infection every winter.
