Yabu - I wash daily even if I'm on death's door
yanbu - I wash when I'm better

YABU, I need to be clean!

ElderMillennial · 01/05/2021 14:13

What do you mean OP??

Do you mean you just don't wash if you feel unwell or are you asking if it is ok to miss a shower one day if you feel too unwell.

Surely if you are so unwell that you can't get in the bath or shower and just need to lie down then that's what you'd do but not sure why you'd just decide not to wash for a few days if you don't feel 100%...

Dubbadubbadumdum · 01/05/2021 14:13

If I'm deathly ill, then I'll wait until I've more energy to have a wash, I've fainted in the shower before and ended up severely concussed and have no wish to repeat that again. If it's just a headcold then it's business as usual, although I do get lazy about washing my hair because it takes so long to dry.

SpreadHummusNotHate · 01/05/2021 14:14

I usually have a shower in the hope it will make me feel better but luckily I’ve never been ill enough to not be able shower

iforgotyourenotbono · 01/05/2021 14:14

Um yes??? Unless I'm actually bed ridden and can barely move, even then I'd have a go with a flannel

sapnupuas · 01/05/2021 14:14

I'm currently dying suffering from hyperemesis and I'm still washing every day. Usually a bath as I go dizzy in the shower.

kowari · 01/05/2021 14:15

If I feel unwell then I'm more likely to want a long hot shower, not less.

Kangaroobill · 01/05/2021 14:16

It depends, if I can’t stand up then no I don’t.

Schrutesbeets · 01/05/2021 14:16

Do people all really shower every day? I do every other day on the whole, but I'm on maternity leave not really a sweaty person.
Am I a total scruff?

SnowWhitesRestingBitchFace · 01/05/2021 14:16

I'm shower everyday and wash my hair every second day without fail.

However I had Covid before Christmas (not near bad enough to be hospitalised and I don't have underlining health issues) and I didn't wash for about a week then because all I did was sleep 😳 The only other time that's happened was when I had mastitis.

SugarCrash1 · 01/05/2021 14:17

Depends how ill and what you mean by ‘wash’. Hand washing is always vital - more than ever with certain illnesses, but I’m sure I could do without a shower for up to a week. I don’t think I have ever been that ill for that long though.

peboh · 01/05/2021 14:17

It depends. If I'm just feeling super poorly and plan to spend the day in the bed, then probably not. If I'm still getting on with life, then yes of course I do.

No I don't think so at all! I prefer to but that's more about me being a bit fanatical about it.

I don't shower daily. I do a top and tail wash every day, shower every 2/3 days and hair wash once a week. I have super sensitive skin, so if I shower more than that it wouldn't do my skin any good.
WeAllHaveWings · 01/05/2021 14:18

I'd definitely shower if I can. The only time I couldn't was day 1 after EMCS.

wellwellwellhereweare · 01/05/2021 14:19

No. When I'm really ill I'm in bed just trying to survive. Or in pain trying to be comfortable.

When better the joys of being clean and having my hair blow dried and straightened makes me feel glorious

booksandnooks · 01/05/2021 14:19

I'm struggling to get up for a wee but I've been sweating like mad even though I feel so cold.

DH ran me a bath to feel better but the last time I had a bath while ill I ended up staying in it until it was freezing trying to shout dh to get me out. didn't have the energy to get up and I'm wondering if I stink that bad he wants me to bathe.

yes about the hair, I can't imagine trying to dry myself right now.

Good, that makes me feel a bit better! Like our hair, our bodies also have natural oils which we shouldn't be washing off every day!

Bipitybopityboop · 01/05/2021 14:21

Yes. Twice a day.
Once in the morning. Hair up out the way and quick soap up and rinse off.
Then once before bed. Again hair up and out the way.
Hair gets washed when it starts to lose its bounce which is every 5 days or so for me.

booksandnooks · 01/05/2021 14:22

@SnowWhitesRestingBitchFace I have mastitis, blocked ducts in both breasts and am absolutely dying. paracetamol isn't hitting it at all.

Allthegranola · 01/05/2021 14:22

Yes, I shower every day or I feel even worse!

I used to have to lie down in the shower sometimes when I was pregnant (fortunately the over bath kind) because id feel so sick and dizzy, but I always felt better of it afterwards.

Lweji · 01/05/2021 14:25

I replied YANBU to mean that I wash as soon as I don't have a raging fever.
I don't need a shower every day, normally, if I'm at home. But sweaty fevers need a quick shower.
I won't drag myself to the shower if I feel really poorly, though.

starrynight21 · 01/05/2021 14:27

Yep, the sicker I feel, the more I want to have a shower. Mastitis normally responds very well to a hot shower - I'd recommend it.

SugarCrash1 · 01/05/2021 14:28

You poor thing! I found your original post quite amusing, but obviously it’s serious. Of course you aren’t being unreasonable. I’m glad I voted YANBU!

Ah, then I recommend a hot bath or shower and to massage the breasts. It should help with the blocked ducts. Express at the same time if you can.

A good tip is to massage the breasts, particularly the harder bits when breastfeeding to avoid blocked ducts.

But see a doctor if you can. Mine required antibiotics.
