Yabu - I wash daily even if I'm on death's door
yanbu - I wash when I'm better

You poor, poor thing! Get antibiotics.

No, if I’m feverish I stay in bed and don’t shower - doing so can be so exhausting I can hardly get back to bed.
Shower and clean sheets once my temp comes down.

ichundich · 01/05/2021 16:44

Only time I didn't for maybe a couple of days was when I had flu once.

fruitpastille · 01/05/2021 16:45

Get antibiotics. ASAP.

ichundich · 01/05/2021 16:46
@SnowWhitesRestingBitchFace I have mastitis, blocked ducts in both breasts and am absolutely dying. paracetamol isn't hitting it at all.
Go to the out of hours GP and ask for antibiotics; that's the quickest way of getting better. You can also try and massage the blockage out (under a warm shower is good) but it hurts a lot and takes a while. Hope you'll feel better soon; mastitis is horrible.

TroysMammy · 01/05/2021 16:47

I had flu/virus and didn't have the energy to wash. I knew when I was getting better because I could smell my rank body. That first shower was heaven.

AMillionMilesAway · 01/05/2021 16:48

It depends how unwell I am.
And I don't shower/bath daily anyway, as water makes my (all over) eczema worse. I make do with every 2-3 days (depending on the weather and what I am have been doing), with a wash of vital areas in between.
I care not if people think I am gross for that. When your skin is cracked and bleeding come back to me.

AMillionMilesAway · 01/05/2021 16:49

@2bazookas

Yes. I'm a great believer in the benefit of washing when unwell (and bed- bathing sick people). The skin is the largest organ of elimination; so washing off the sweat and germs of illness will help you recover faster. And make you feel fresh and more comfortable.
Your skin doesn't excrete disease. Although I agree hygiene is generally good for comfort.
therocinante · 01/05/2021 16:50

I don't shower every day anyway (gasp). So if I felt especially ill and just wanted to stay still I wouldn't. If I'm ever hungover however, a shower is the only thing that helps even though I effectively just feel ill, so maybe I'm taking the wrong tack!

ichundich · 01/05/2021 16:51

Should add that once I had to resort to massaging because we were on holiday and I had no idea where the nearest doctor's was. It took me 2-3h to release the blockage, but overall it had got so bad that I developed cold sores on both sides of my mouth the next day. So if you can drag yourself to the doctor's somehow, I think you should.

PollyRoe16 · 01/05/2021 17:04

If you can manage it a hot shower and massaging the blockage out did help me and definitely get hold of some antibiotics. You can also freeze cabbage leaves and stick them on to relieve the pain or they do boob ice packs from lenosah

JaninaDuszejko · 01/05/2021 17:09

The only time I was close to not wanting to wash was when I had mastitis and had to sit down in the shower because I thought I was going to faint. You will feel better after washing though, have a bath, tell DH you need him with you to help you.

JellyTots2009 · 01/05/2021 17:12

When I had covid, I couldn't wash for 5 days. I could barely stand up other than to hobble to bathroom for a wee. My skin was so so sensitive it was like the water would burn just hitting me.
It was all I really wanted to do for those days when the fever had made me sweat constantly.
So when I finally washed I felt better but there was no way I was having a shower when I felt that ill.
I just about changed underwear each day but mainly the pyjamas stayed on.
It was an awful time.

springisintheair2021 · 01/05/2021 17:13

When I had Covid in January I was so ill I could hardly get to the bathroom for the toilet. I'd just moved two days before and the kitchen was down two flights of stairs. It took all my energy to get there to make a cup of tea.
No way would I have been able to have a shower in those first five days

springisintheair2021 · 01/05/2021 17:14

Jelly think we posted at same time!

onemouseplace · 01/05/2021 17:14

I've had a few viruses (the sort when you sleep all day) over the years and one particularly nasty infection where I couldn't face washing - you know the sort when even the thought of the effort involved makes you feel it's not worth it.

That first shower/ bath afterwards is a real signal to me that I'm feeling better - and it feels amazing.

Glitterblue · 01/05/2021 17:16

It depends. If it's a migraine, where I literally can't move from the bed without feeling/being sick, then I will wait till the next day. When I had horrendous side effects from the vaccine, I'd showered on the Thursday morning, had the vaccinated day, started feeling unwell in the evening, went to bed early and was so so unwell the next day I couldn't even get out of bed apart from to go to the toilet. So I didn't manage to shower until Saturday afternoon and DH changed the bed. I was so desperate for shower, it zapped any tiny bit of energy that I had but it was so worth it!

GlamourSpider · 01/05/2021 17:16

When you're ill just do whatever you need to do, if that means not washing then don't wash.

EmeraldShamrock · 01/05/2021 17:18

It depends on how ill I am.
If it isn't going to make you feel better then I wouldn't bother.
Can you get stronger medication paracetamol isn't great for bad pain.

minniemomo · 01/05/2021 17:26

Never been so ill I can't make it to the bathroom. Even after my AZ jab when for six hours or so I felt faint, pounding head and fever I had a shower then went back to bed (dp changed the sheets love him!Smile)

I'm obviously lucky to have never been seriously ill I should add !

Blueskytoday06 · 01/05/2021 17:27

Yes I do

Blakey24 · 01/05/2021 17:29

I mean I’m not sure how ill you are talking about. But when I’ve been ill with any kind of virus that’s knocked me down I do still shower and bath every day - because it makes me feel
Better even if it’s only temporary and like to feel clean. But that’s just me. I know people who will stay in bed for days. It depends on how you are too. I’ve felt rough before but I don’t think I’ve ever had the flu - or covid!

Kangaroobill · 01/05/2021 17:36

Migraines are the only time I don’t manage it either. When I can’t even roll over without vomiting and I’m too sensitive to light and sound, showering in the dark when ill wouldn’t be a good idea. As soon as I’m up to it I shower and DH changes the bed
Canvasphoto · 01/05/2021 17:40

@sapnupuas oh my days im impressed!

When I had HG I could bearly get out of bed let alone shower or bath. Although if you are sick atleast it’s a good place to get clean again quite quickly 🤣😂

rainbowthoughts · 01/05/2021 17:42

DH ran me a bath to feel better but the last time I had a bath while ill I ended up staying in it until it was freezing trying to shout dh to get me out. didn't have the energy to get up and I'm wondering if I stink that bad he wants me to bathe.

Maybe he is just trying to help? That's said, do you not communicate normally? Why didn't he offer to run a bath rather then just run it? Why did you assume he thinks you smell rather than talk to him?

sapnupuas · 01/05/2021 17:43

@Canvasphoto

I threw up all over myself this morning. I needed a bath!
