Do you ever pay full price?

I was walking around Tesco this afternoon getting some bits and bobs and remembered I needed some Alpro Almond milk. I didn’t get them because it’s £1.80 when I only buy it when on offer for £1. Luckily I have some UHT ones at home so I declined the opportunity to pay full price 😏

My question is, do you ever pay full price for branded items that are usually on some type of offer rotation at varying supermarkets? Same with Lenor Unstoppables washing seeds, full price they’re like £8 for a tube of them or £4 when on offer- does anyone actually ever pay that full price? Dishwasher tablets are another one that cost the earth full price.

It just baffles me why they can’t just be the offer price all the time? I realise it supposedly adds brand value and tricks you into thinking its worth the inflated price but it just annoys me now surely consumers are wise to these tactics and refuse to pay up?

I shop at Aldi and Lidl, so yes we pay full price but it's not ridiculous to start with.

Orangeinmybluelightcup · 26/04/2021 21:00

I just buy what I need, when I need it. I don't really shop in supermarkets though. So when I've got a list of things I can only get from a supermarket then I'll go get them.

TotheletterofthelawTHELETTER · 26/04/2021 21:01

Ribena is £2.79 in Asda, I only buy it when it’s on offer for £1.50. Even though it’s my favourite squash.

ForgedInFire · 26/04/2021 21:02

Rarely. There are also some shops that have massive sales so often that I wonder who on Earth shops there at full price (looking at you Gap)

sunflowersandbuttercups · 26/04/2021 21:02

It depends. Some things I'll stock up if they're on offer, other things I buy if I need them, regardless of price.

DenisetheMenace · 26/04/2021 21:03

Don’t buy brands full stop so price is generally not an issue.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 26/04/2021 21:04

Today I did for alpro coconut milk. Wasnin tesco, they didn't have anybown brand, and baby dd was going to get hungry so I had no time (or energy) to go elsewhere.
I did the other morning with walkers crisps because we were in a rush for school and I had nothing in for ds's snack. I hate paying full price for crisps!

rainbowthoughts · 26/04/2021 21:04

Yes I pay full price. If i need it i need it.

user1487194234 · 26/04/2021 21:06

For me life’s too short to say £1 here or there
Do a big shop a week at Asda and a weekend shop at Waitrose for treats
Happy with quality/overall spend /time spent shopping

SeaTurtles92 · 26/04/2021 21:07

No unless it's for DS's cravendale milk.

I refuse to pay full price for other things.

rabbitheadlights · 26/04/2021 21:08

I find with the in wash scent booster they alternate so one week the big bottle is on offer and the following week the small will be

melj1213 · 26/04/2021 21:09

I work in a supermarket so I see the prices changing up and down every week, I always make sure to buy things when they're on their cheapest price cycle and am not afraid to switch brands if my usual one is not on offer but another is.

Some things though I will pay whatever the current price is if it is something i need or can't swap for a cheaper alternative - eg I can only use certain washing powders due to skin sensitivities, I try and buy multiple packs when they're on offer but if they aren't and we have run out then I dont have a choice but to pay the full price as I am not going to start risking having skin reactions to new washing powders for the sake of paying £1.50 more

TheChosenTwo · 26/04/2021 21:12

I just pay what the price is!
I get one online food shop a week and I pay the price currently advertised. If I need it, I need it. Same for if I just want it.
I don’t go to more than one shop for anything trying to find things on offer, I very very rarely go into a supermarket of any kind anyway so when I do, I get what I went in for and get out.
I am brand loyal and won’t switch to something I don’t like as much just because it’s cheaper.

MixedUpFiles · 26/04/2021 21:13

I frequently pay full price. I have money. I don’t have time. I do try to stock up when I see sales, but I’m not making extra trips or strategizing to save little bits. I did do that when I was younger and my breakdown of money and time skewed in the opposite direction.

BarbaraofSeville · 26/04/2021 21:13

Rarely. We keep a stock of things that are often on offer so we don't need to get them when full price.

It might only be a £1 on one item but it really adds up over time.

Russell19 · 26/04/2021 21:14

I shop at aldi, you don't get that nonsense there.

Candycane57 · 26/04/2021 21:15

I buy full price if it's something I need/we've run out of, but I'll buy things on offer if we haven't tried them before or just don't need them. Branded unnecessary things like Lenor unstoppables I only buy on offer, same as kids snacks (like paw patrol branded things that cost twice as much as unbranded) or fancy food. If there's something I or the kids really want I just buy it.

CastleCrasher · 26/04/2021 21:19

I stock up on some things like laundry products etc when they are on offer, but generally I just but what I need when I need it. Like a pp, when I was younger I had more time but less money so shopped around more; now I have more money but less time (and patience!) so am willing to pay a premium for convenience

CookieDoughKid · 26/04/2021 21:21

I pay full price for non branded items. Branded I rarely buy. It’s not worth my time to shop around.I will earn more in the hour spent working than the hour spent shopping around saving me a few quid.

FindingMeno · 26/04/2021 21:23

For things I use a lot, I stock up when the saving is worth it.
But I don't have the space to store lots of stuff that is down from 89p to 79p.

HopingForRainbow2021 · 26/04/2021 21:24

My DH only likes Helmans Mayo. I always bulk buy when it’s on a decent offer!

StillCoughingandLaughing · 26/04/2021 21:26

It depends on the brand. I only really like Heinz beans, so if they’re full price and I need beans, it’s false economy to buy Crosse and Blackwell or whatever else might be on offer instead. If it’s yoghurt, for example, I like both Onken and Yeo Valley, so if one of those is on offer, I’ll buy that one.

There are other brands I refuse to buy at full price on principle. Haagen Dazs, Ben and Jerry’s, Pringles... they’re always on offer somewhere, so why would you pay full price?

Mooloolabababy · 26/04/2021 21:28

Nope. I only ever buy what's on offer, if it's not on offer then we go without or I buy a different brand. I'll also never pay more than £1 for multipack crisps or a pack of snack bars.

reecespiece · 26/04/2021 21:28

I pay full price, weekly shop stays roughly the same price as one of my other regular items is normally discounted.

Passthecake30 · 26/04/2021 21:30

I’m online shopping weekly at the moment. I write a meal plan, order what I need for that and other bits and bobs that I’ve ran out of, then I scan through my favourites and see what cupboard/frozen stuff is on offer and I stock up. I never pay full price for fajita kits, coffee, toothpaste or cereal.
