Do you ever pay full price?

I was walking around Tesco this afternoon getting some bits and bobs and remembered I needed some Alpro Almond milk. I didn’t get them because it’s £1.80 when I only buy it when on offer for £1. Luckily I have some UHT ones at home so I declined the opportunity to pay full price 😏

My question is, do you ever pay full price for branded items that are usually on some type of offer rotation at varying supermarkets? Same with Lenor Unstoppables washing seeds, full price they’re like £8 for a tube of them or £4 when on offer- does anyone actually ever pay that full price? Dishwasher tablets are another one that cost the earth full price.

It just baffles me why they can’t just be the offer price all the time? I realise it supposedly adds brand value and tricks you into thinking its worth the inflated price but it just annoys me now surely consumers are wise to these tactics and refuse to pay up?

Only if I'm desperate.
I'm not brand loyal at all. If another one is cheaper eg oat milk, I'll happy switch brand.

Ellpellwood · 26/04/2021 21:35

Depends. Oatly Barista is never on offer, always £1.80. I don't buy the non-Barista version even if it's £1. If I want Snack a Jacks or something for my lunches I'll pay whatever they're priced at.
But I'll only buy some more expensive things when on offer, like Tony's Chocolonely bars, or Charlie Bigham's curry.

Thatisnotwhatisaid · 26/04/2021 21:37

I shop at aldi as a couple of others have said so it’s always cheap! Did used to buy brands from morrisons and it always cost twice as much as aldi, even when it was on offer 🤷🏻‍♀️.

DahliaMacNamara · 26/04/2021 21:39

I can't think of any brands that are on a 'must-have at any cost' list. So I suppose I do wait for them to be on offer, or buy an alternative if it's something I'm running low on. I don't really have a budget for shopping as such, but I won't pay double for something I don't immediately need when I know it'll be half the price within the next few weeks.

OutComeTheWolves · 26/04/2021 21:40

No I have zero brand loyalty and always buy what's on offer.

FindingMeno · 26/04/2021 21:41

Certain things I do only buy on offer. Mainly toiletries and expensive items like avocado oil.

QueenPaw · 26/04/2021 21:42

Nope, never when on full price. I buy on offer so never have to pay full price

osbertthesyrianhamster · 26/04/2021 21:42

Yes

headintheproverbial · 26/04/2021 21:44

Yes I regularly pay full price. I don't really feel the time I'd need to spend shopping around / remembering to stock up in advance when things are on offer is really worth the money I'd save.

Justmuddlingalong · 26/04/2021 21:46

I've got 3 tubs of lurpak in the freezer. It's the only butter I like, but I still refuse to pay full price.

UnderCaffeinated · 26/04/2021 21:49

FAGE Total 5% fat greek yoghurt. The others just aren't the same. I don't buy it all the time so generally do get it when its on offer, but it's so nice that I'll pay full price and if I want it, I'll just get it. Tried all the other authentic greek yoghurts but this one is the very best.

GellerYeller · 26/04/2021 21:51

I have a few things I prefer branded but will stock up when they are on offer. I buy a coffee that varies from £2.50 up to £6 full price! Same as a PP I can't risk certain laundry products flaring up allergies but I use Wilko or Home Bargains where they are always decently priced. A cautionary tale for almond milk lovers: Morrisons own brand splits horribly in coffee. Made this mistake several times! I never buy 'fresh', always from the shelf and Aldi own brand is as good as Alpro IMHO.

Supersimkin2 · 26/04/2021 21:52

I eat very well and rarely pay full price. Living next door to M&S helps, cos you rush in after lunch at yellow sticker time and stock up.

Freezer essential for good eating on the cheap. Everything else the household needs is best and cheapest at Aldi or, surprisingly, Waitrose.

GellerYeller · 26/04/2021 21:53

@Justmuddlingalong you are not alone Wink

Milkywaystars · 26/04/2021 21:53

If my favourites are on offer then I will buy double to stock up on. This week in Morrisons, Yorkshire tea is on offer so I bought 2 boxes.

Earlybirdmissedtheworm · 26/04/2021 21:58

I never pay full price for pringles, it goes against my morals 😆

LovingBob · 26/04/2021 22:03

No, I only buy on offer and get a few in, I also buy bulk from Amazon of cleaning stuff, toilet rolls etc when they are on a special deal.

Gatehouse77 · 26/04/2021 22:05

Some things I’ll only buy when they’re on offer - branded items, junk cereal (and during the holidays), etc. I will switch between brands if one is on offer and we’re happy with either.
Other stuff, if we need it, I buy it.

TheOneWithTheBigNose · 26/04/2021 22:05

I pay whatever the price is at the time I need it. I don’t have time to trawl supermarkets to find something so if I need something and it’s full price, I buy it. If it’s on offer when I need it then it’s a bonus.

Merryoldgoat · 26/04/2021 22:09

To be honest I don’t check the price of anything in the weekly food shop which is probably why I spend a stupid amount.

Mamascoven · 26/04/2021 22:14

I just get whatever cleaning products/laundry stuff is on offer. Same with frozen food. Pay full price for meat, fruit veg etc that's it really. Also I find cereal that's not on offer to be extortionate so the kids have whatever is on offer and know not to ask for ones that are not!

MegaClutterSlut · 26/04/2021 22:15

I try to shop around to get the best deals and try to only buy branded when its on offer. If its something I really like, I stock up

whistleinthewind · 26/04/2021 22:18

If I need it, yes. But I do buy things on offer and add extra in when it is. For example, Nescafé Azera, £5.49 normally, currently 2 for £6 - so I buy two each week at the moment. DH and I go through a tin a week anyway, but with long expiry dates and space to store it I don't mind stocking up a bit. Once it's not on offer I'll not buy again till my existing stuff is lower / it's back on offer again - whatever is more sensible at the time

LadyPoison · 26/04/2021 22:26

@Earlybirdmissedtheworm

I never pay full price for pringles, it goes against my morals 😆
Haha - yes me too!

They have to be on special offer for me to buy them

Cosyclothes · 26/04/2021 22:28

I’m not too bothered paying full price for groceries/ toiletries etc, but I hardly ever pay full price for clothes. I generally wait until something is on sale before I buy it, apart from shoes. If I really want the shoes it doesn’t matter how much they cost 😎
