AIBU?

To buy a nespresso machine for the nurses on the ward that have looked after me?

As the title. Would this be a good thank you gift? Does anyone recommend a particular machine?
I was going to get some pods, cakes and biscuits too

Sadly, Yabu because then they will have to buy tablets or it will go to waste. As nice as the thought is.

A lifetime supply? No it’s a really silly idea. Just buy a tin of biscuits.

A lovely gesture but the pods will be too expensive to keep them topped up.

The pods are so expensive, I really wouldn’t (also not environmentally friendly)

Just get some decent tea and instant coffee

I'm a nurse and honestly it's too much messing. No one will buy pods and it will just sit there. Good coffee. Tea bags (lots and lots) if you want and a thank you card to individual nurses would be amazing.

If you are getting cakes ect, nice fruit would be nice too (I'm always on a diet!)

It's not a silly idea!! I am a nurse and I think it's a wonderful idea. They would appreciate it very much

I wouldn't. they are probably not allowed to have electric appliances other than nhs provided ones. or if they are allowed it will probably go walkabout...
when a relative was in hospital for a while we paid a ward tap at the hospital coffee shop.

how about coffee bags? and a selection of tea bags.

@redcandlelight that's a great idea, thanks

As above - named cards and feedback is so useful, nominations for recognition in hospital schemes ir a good fancy pack of biscuits or a fruit box etc

If you want to give them nice coffee options, you could find nice local roasters and gove french press or two. Some might like it and coffee then doesn't cost as much as pods

Biscuits chocs are always very welcome!

it will need to be PAT tested before use...in my experience this rarely happens,

It's a very kind thought - but someone bought my work place staff room 2 of these a couple of years ago, and they honestly never get used.

We rarely have time to make a 'proper' drink and the pods are hugely expensive. I don't even know what brand/type they take or how to use the machines.

How about a sort of hamper, a really big bag of really nice instant coffee, teabags, hot chocolate, box of biscuits, chocolates or cake, maybe some fresh fruit.
Lovely idea though OP, I just think once the pods have run out it won’t get any use.

Costco has mega tin if Douwe Egberts if they need quick instant, for 19.99

These things should be banned just due to sheer amount of waste they produce, and a single shot machine is far too much hassle for a ward. Just go with biscuits etc.

You could make a nice hamper with mugs, coffee, tea etc. Unfortunately I think they wouldn't be able to use it without it being pat tested and things like this often don't work well in shared spaces. Conflict arises when someone uses all the pods, uses the ones someone bought for themself etc.

They’ll find it next time they do pat testing......

It’s not a terrible idea, we had a dolce gusto machine on our ward for years. we would all put money in 3 or 4 times a year to stock up on pods (tho they would usually run out a few weeks before we got round to re-stocking). Some people also had their own pods kept in their lockers too. We loved it, but when it eventually broke nobody was really bothered about replacing it in the end but that’s because we stopped shopping for all communal supply’s.

Its a lovely idea but I would hold off buying a coffee maker unless the ward specifically asked for one. They are al so different and they take time to get to know and use properly - and this is time most nurses dont have .Plus small appliances often go walkabout even from locked areas.
Pat testing isnt necessary for new items though so thats one thing you wouldnt need to worry about.
The treat hamper is the best idea. You can put tea coffee and hot chocolate boxes in and if you hand pick some lovely fruit to make it look special and pop small wrapped chocolates and sweets among the tissue paper it will be a great gift for everyone.

Just to add, we have a couple of cafetières now to make a decent coffee with so maybe you could look at that instead. Although we did love the dolce gusto we are equally happy with our cafetières. Just to add, no matter how busy we are we manage to make a coffee!

We got refillable tablets now.

What waste do they produce? All the pods are fully recyclable
