I was wondering today whether GPs see other GPs if they are ill? Can anyone tell me? I'm assuming yes as they wouldn't be allowed to prescribe medications for themselves?

What other random things have you always wondered/wanted to know?

Naming notes is perfect pitch isn't it? It's very unusual. I don't think it can be that off-putting though, because the two people I've come across with it have been excellent musicians.

I think most historians believe Jesus did exist. There are non-biblical records of him.

If I was in a war situation where soldiers were going from house to house. How do I stop my baby from crying and giving away my location. Did all families with small babies get killed.

Sadly, there is evidence during the 2nd WW of very young babies, whose crying could not be stopped, being smothered to prevent hiding places being discovered by the Nazis. Sometimes accidentally - a hand over their face too forcefully or for for too long - and sometimes deliberately.

I'm sure such terrible things must happen in other wars and areas of conflict, especially where genocide is pursued.

@Dilbertian

I went to a single sex school and all the girls in my room (4 of us) would all be 'on' at the same time. My sister, mum and I were the same at home, and my twins and I were also the same, years later.

My girlfriend confirmed that she and her daughter were the same - and her DIL synced with them while living with them for a year or so.

So, yes, it can happen Smile

One of my daughters was found to have quite severe eye problems when very young - they used pictures and colours to help engage with her. Luckily, with treatment, she has pretty good eyesight now. She used to love going to the eye clinic as a little girl as they made quite a fuss of her.

Just read up about the Dyatlov Pass.

What makes me think the avalanche theory doesn't add up is that they were found covered in traces of radioactive material and weird lights were seen in the sky.

That's military activity. Or aliens. Got to be. 👽

They weren't actually showing high levels of radiation - that was made up. The lights may have been as well, and if not then it'd just be coincidence.

How does the snowplough driver get to work when it snows?
My dh is a gritter driver, luckily he has a 4 wheel drive but even then it’s difficult and many times he and his work colleagues have got stuck when the snow has been particularly bad.

I can't find the original post about women's menstrual cycle synchronising.

It's always happened to me. I went to an all girls school and we always had our periods at the same time; in fact, three of us even had our first period start on the same day!

My cycle matched my mum's and my sister's when I lived at home.

A few years ago when I saw my best friend every day, (twice daily school run and work one day a week) we were in sync.

I don't really have periods anymore because I had the implant, but when DD came home from uni, I'd start spotting when she had her period! Every time!

Maybe some people are more susceptible to this phenomenon than others.

Dilbertian · 22/04/2021 10:36

I wish I had synced with my mum when I lived at home, because she was regular as a clock and was never caught short, whereas I was anything between 4.5 - 5.5 weeks and frequently taken by surprise.

The National Geographic recently reported that as fact (the radioactive particles) but they explained it as coming from the camping lamps they used.

I really want to know how those security thingies you use for online banking work - the fobs that look like calculators that give you secure codes when accessing your account, transferring money and whatnot.

How does HSBC.com know what code my fob is coming up with? 🤔

Not sure I can explain what I mean but hopefully, somebody clever knows?

This is based on my background knowledge of the technology - I'm not an expert.

There's an algorithm for generating the numbers.
Each of the units (the thingies) has a unique key number, which is fed into the algorithm along with the time to generate the secure code for you to use.

The bank has a computer server that runs the same algorithm and holds a record of all the valid units keys and which customer has them. This enables them to what the number for your thingie should be at a given point in time, and they can check that against the number you supply.

Whatisthisfuckery · 22/04/2021 11:13

I feel I should correct the misinformation on this thread regarding guide dog poo.

Guide dogs are trained to go on command. Obviously this isn’t a fail safe option and sometimes they just need to go or sometimes they are awkward sods, like if it’s raining, but in a nutshell they shit when told to.

You are supposed to take them to the loo in your designated guide dog toileting place before you work them to decrease the chances of them dropping their arses while working. Again it doen’t work all the time but it generally, if you’re in a good routine, works.

If you can’t see and there is nobody sighted to pick up the poo you have to pick it up yourself, obvioulsy. I’ve had two guide dogs and known loads of guide dog owners and I’ve never come across anybody who runs down the dog’s back while it’s shitting. I’m not sure any dog would tolerate that and I don’t think guide dogs would expect a dog to. Instead you have to have them on the end of the lead, dogs can be trained to go on the end of the lead, and you kind of just have to judge where they are and where the arse is when picking up the shit. It usually involves grovelling around on the ground with a bag on your hand, which isn’t a great look but it’s better than leaving a bloody great dog turd in your wake.

Lastly, the dog doesn’t remain where it shat. this is utter utter bullshit. They are dogs, they tend to skip away from where they’ve dropped the bomb and some of them do the scratching thing with their back feet. My second guide dog used to move around when she was shitting, so her shit would go around in an ark. I had fun trying to find all that, I can tell ya.

Oh, and if you drop a sweet on the bus a guide dog will try to get if if they possibly can. Most guide dogs are labradors, so... Obviously it depends on the dog and the owner, but some dogs will do the commando shuffle, some dogs will blatantly just dive for it, and some of them will sneakily grab it on their way past quick as a flash. If the owner has some sight and is aware that there’s food on the floor they will prevent the dog from getting it, but if you can’t see then that dog is going to get that sweet.

Guide dogs are just dogs. They aren’t special super dogs with special powers, they’re just labradors.

BlueLobelia · 22/04/2021 11:22

In regards to music, I don't name the notes in my head when I hear them, but I tend to see the score in my head (if i have seen it or not IRL). I see it like a photo if that makes sense.

I now only listen to music if I am doing something else like cleaning or driving. I do not sit and listen to a cd. Different bits of music move me intensely..... Beethoven and Karl Jenkins mainly. I have to watch my speed if I am driving listening to either of these as I tend to speed up.

We'd have a regency. She'd still be queen but there'd be "prince regent" who handled all head of state stuff for her.

American Sign Language is more similar to French SL than BSL because the guy who set up America’s first school for the deaf came to England to study SL in the early 19th century, was told to get knotted and went to France to study SL instead.

PigletJohn · 22/04/2021 13:22

@ChristmasSexyTime

And to the pp who asked about why everybody uses the same words...

Up until about 500 years ago, the UK was a mess of languages. There was a deliberate attempt to push English as a language. It was expanded at a rate of knots (literally tens of thousands of words invented) so that it could compete as a sophisticated language. The invention of the printing press helped to roll the language out and English was enforced in church, in the courts etc. Bibles were only printed in English. It was a really deliberate attempt to promote an idea of 'Englishness' as an identity.

Similar things have happened in different countries. Germany for example. They united the territories that existed in that region as 'Germany' by promoting a common language.

And now Wales.

How come Boris is allowed to wasted 2.6m of taxpayers money on a 'Press Room"?
And bought 50 million masks last year that were unusable?
I'm just looking for something else he wasted another £50m on?

Midwife question

If someone gives birth with twins, what happens if:

Twin 1 born, then twin 2 10 mins later, but the clocks go back between, so twin 1 'born' after twin 2?

Twin 1 born 31st August 11.59pm, twin 2 born 1st Sept 00.07. This would mean they would be a whole school year apart.

Twin 1 born 31 Dec 21.55pm, twin 2 born 1st Jan 00.05.

Would these be recorded accurately, or would both twins be given the same DOB, and who would choose which?

This has always intrigued me - at least different days must happen regularly enough?

Completelyfrozen · 22/04/2021 14:14

Rather serious question, but what jobs will pay me £35K per year with little training and no degree?
I'm happy to undertake training.
I am quite an anxious person so no heights or massive responsibility.
I need to be able to support myself financially independently and 35k per year is the minimum I can do it on.
I'd love to know the answer to this one.

Completelyfrozen · 22/04/2021 14:15

I have no idea what I want to do, I'm keeping an open mind.

zannydo · 22/04/2021 14:22

@beinglikedisoverrated I saw on the internet that how come test and trace shitty app cost like something around 26 billion pounds and Mars Robot cost something like 2.5 billion dollars where it was built on Earth, rocketed out of Earth, travelled 7 months in space and safely landed on Mars which is really difficult to land on Mars due to its atmosphere? How come we stand quiet where there's massive corruption going on and on the other hand, the biggest step in technology and exploration is taking place on another planet. And I cannot get my head around the fact that the scientist controlling the Mars robot is currently managing the control from its flat in London as the scientist couldn't fly back to Houston due to the pandemic.
