I was wondering today whether GPs see other GPs if they are ill? Can anyone tell me? I'm assuming yes as they wouldn't be allowed to prescribe medications for themselves?

What other random things have you always wondered/wanted to know?

OP posts:
Dontwanttooutmyself · 20/04/2021 09:42

I want to know

 1. whether we're alone in the universe or not? (From the Arthur C Clarke quote "There are two possibilities... either answer is terrifying").

 2. Was JFK really shot by a lone gunman?

 3. What happens when we die? (Does it feel like it does when you have a GA - the lights just go out and that's it?)

What I would LIKE to happen when we die is that, as we arrive at the pearly gates, we get to ask three questions to which we will get a full and honest answer. As I would then know the answer to my third question above, my third pearly gate question would be: "On exactly what date (if ever) will Homo Sapiens cease to exist as a species?"

Dontwanttooutmyself · 20/04/2021 09:43

(because just to clarify, I absolutely don't want to know the answer to my last question before I die)

@AppleDolphin

Who picks up a guide dogs poo? Are they trained to poo in the garden? Do they pick up their own poo, they're certainly clever enough ;)

Or is it just left?

I always remember when DS was tiny and he dropped a sweet on the bus floor near a guide dog. The guide dog's wee tongue was desperately trying to get it, but just out of his reach. But he did move closer? Did he hell. What brilliant training.

The guide dog owner is trending no man's dog is going to use the the toilet so to speak. The guide dog user the runs their hand down the back of the guide dog to the top of the tail and when the guide dog moved the poop is directly under where the hand is left. Easy peasy!

You may be, surprised to know there are already also guide dog toilets up and down the country, including in airports. A guide dog must use the airport in an aeroplane have to use the guide dog toilet before its allowed on the plane. Guide owners pick up dog poo better than many vision-perfect dog owners.

Is there ever a time that a football goalie can be tackled? I have no knowledge of the game but my youngest son plays for the village team. He insists that if the goalie only has one hand on the ball then you can kick it out of his hand...

@NoProblem123

Who makes the machines that go in factories that make stuff ? Is there a factory for factory machines ? How do they make them so bespoke ? Who designs them ?

Also, what happened to JonBenet ?
And the Stairwell on Netflix - what really happen with that ?

Re the machines that go in factories, my father in law is one of these people, he designs the machines that process and clean shellfish and builds them in his factory for other factories. He has a lot of skilled welders and engineers working for him.

When singers record music videos, do they sing or lip sync
They lip syncs in that the vocals are not recorded, it’s the studio recording that’s used, however, if they actually sing properly while being filmed it looks a lot more realistic than just silently miming. So they sing but only so it looks good...

Do people with advanced dementia have an internal monologue?

I have a great auntie who is so far gone that she no longer remembers who she is, let alone any relative Sad

*I'll blow it further. Until the ninth week of pregnancy, you can't tell a male fetus from a female fetus, and they all LOOK female. At that point, what appears to be a rudimentary clitoris and labia begin to change in the male fetus”

That’s why men have nipples.
**@Galaxyinmypocket* I think I would class myself as an extrovert. I think partly it's a natural need/urge to talk, to be inquisitive and excited about meeting new people* i think I am a true introvert and i feel all these things too, and want to be around people, feel uplifted by and like most people, am generally non-judgemental of others, interested and open to hearing other's pov, etc, all those things you say, but for me it is a bit like wanting to eat a whole cupboard of chocolate but not being able to. I love people but get to a point where I have to close down because I am feeling overstimlated and a bit ill. I need to shrug it off and re charge, ideally. Most of the time I don't get a choice though - work, children stuff - so I just suck it up.
It’s not that introverts don’t like people or don’t like to be around others. They enjoy it just as much but as you said, it becomes overwhelming. Introverts ‘recharge’ by having time alone. It’s the opposite for extroverts - they recharge by being around people.

@sparepantsandtoothbrush

What happens to second class post? Is it separated from the first class post and then just sits there for an extra day waiting to be sorted and posted?
I worked at a sorting office many moons ago. We were told to concentrate on junk mail first (as that’s where Royal Mail make the most money). We then moved on to first class, and once that was done we’d move onto second class.

@AvocadosBeforeMortgages @NoProblem123 I have a card in my purse that says ‘I have a dog(s) at home, please contact X to take care of them’

I also store it in my emergency details on my iPhone.

OneRankSuperior · 20/04/2021 10:03

To answer the question about remembering dreams (I think it was @fishermanjumper who asked) - I’ve always understood it that your dreams aren’t ‘stored’ in your memory in the same way that things that happen while you are awake. So you can only recall them if you wake up (either naturally or are woken up) during the dream. It’s not that dreams themselves are different, it’s your ability to remember them.

I've always assumed they'd contact my next of kin within 24 hours or so and they'd have the sense to feed DDog.

I'm mainly worried about what happens if I have a muddy dog with me when I break something, and no one to collect him (I live a good distance from family). Last time I ran into this situation I was hiking in the Brecon Beacons... It's a bit of a catch 22 situation that either results in DDog going in the ambulance (and onwards to hospital?), me being left there with DDog, or waiting hours for a friend / relative to come (if I could find someone available) - or in my case last time, driving home and praying I don't crash because I doubt the insurance would pay out.

Can a fly swim?
Not in my wine, sunshine!

On that note, why is a fly called a fly?
Birds fly.
Why aren't fish called swim?

LondonWFuck · 20/04/2021 10:13

@Missfelipe

Not a GP but I know that doctors are prohibited from prescribing for themselves and people with whom they have a close personal relationship unless in an emergency. So I presume they do need to see another doctor if they need something.
I used to have a friend who's a doctor. She wrote herself a prescription when we were at an airport, for some medication she'd forgotten to pack, for a long weekend away.
AzureHawker1 · 20/04/2021 10:18

@AvocadosBeforeMortgages

What happens if you're walking the dog alone, break your leg and have to call an ambulance?

Assuming no friends / family are able to come and retrieve DDog, does the ambulance take the dog with you? What if you're many miles from home and can't drop the dog home on the way to hospital?

I've never found the answer to this question so once drove me and the dog an hour home with what turned out to be a badly broken arm Blush

When I worked a the vets one of our good clients was in a car crash with their dog and they let the dog come in the ambulance and dropped it at the vets on the way to hospitals! I don’t think the owner was seriously hurt though. I think the local dog warden or maybe the police would probably deal with your dog if you had to phone an ambulance while you were out and and there was no one else to take care of it. My dad once got hospitalised while we were in holiday and had no one to look after his dog and it was taken to a local kennels by the police. That was 30 years ago though so might be different now but there will definitely be a procedure for this situation.

When singers record music videos, do they sing or lip sync
Mainly yes, but it varies. Most performers will sing so it looks authentic, this isn’t usually recorded. In some cases live singing does feature in music videos, in the one attached you can hear when it changes from Olly singing live to Olly lip syncing.

Another one, a lot more light-hearted than my last!

Why is it such a let-down when you're building up to a really good sneeze and the sensation just fades out? It's so annoying!

I'm with you there. Somebody said it was like a joke that went too far. Grin After caddying for DS for years I think they were spot on. Daft rules and ridiculous hazards. Clubhouse food was top notch though.
