DD is 8, yesterday she was complaining of stomach pain and nausea but was out playing most of the day.

This morning she was doubled over in the fetal position, after calpol she felt better and wanted to go to school. I said to her to get the school to call me if the pain returned. Heard nothing until husband picked her up (im working) and shes still in alot of pain but she says it comes and goes.
She had asked the school to call me as she said she was walking crouched with the pain and they said no ( thats another story!!)

Anyways got her a doctor app which husband took her to, he called to tell me doc said she is fine as when she pressed there was no pain.

Hes back home with her and shes in pain again hanging over the toilet saying shes going to be sick.

This is unlike her, and im worried its appendicitis. But also aware the doctor checked her out only half an hour ago.

Talk me down....

A & E. My ds battled on with pains for 3 days.
He went in as his appendix burst..
Second opinion necessary imo.

Thank you. Was your ds pain intermittant? The pain seems to be coming in waves, she says when she was at the doctor it wasnt sore but then it starts again.

Im leaving work just now, her dads put her in a bath but i wont hesitate to take her if she is the same xx

Yes waves. Eased in the bath (3am in denial he needed to ring NHS direct)..
Sickness also.
He was very lucky.

Brogues · 19/04/2021 16:42

Or it could be constipation?

Husband said doctor was very good but it just hasn't sat well with me. Hoping the doc is right and it maybe is just something she has eaten x

Her bowels have moved as normal

I second A&E. If its that much pain and for that length of time I wouldn't take the risk. You could call the non emergency number, is it 111? And they will advise you and recommend A&E if they think its appropriate

romdowa · 19/04/2021 16:44

My gp told me as a teenager I had a kidney infection. 24 hours later my appendix ruptured. I showed atypical signs of appendicitis and that delayed my pain been taken seriously. So I wouldn't just go by what the gp says.

GreenTeaBlackCoffeeAndRedWine · 19/04/2021 16:45

Try 111 maybe? But please do take her to A&E or to a different GP if this carries on. Some GPs are so dismissive it's unreal.

YoniAndGuy · 19/04/2021 16:47

A&E especially if her bowels are ok.

Don't take the risk.

ThatOtherPoster · 19/04/2021 16:47

I’m sorry. To me this is the worst part of motherhood - feeling you’re the only thing standing between your D.C. and death!

This is probably no help, but on a medical TV show once (maybe ER) there was a child with suspected appendicitis. How they diagnosed it was to offer that child a McDonalds. They said only kids with appendicitis would decline a McDonalds.

Could you try that with her ultimate, rarely allowed, very favourite food treat?

Allwokedup · 19/04/2021 16:47

Just go to a&e.

Lipz · 19/04/2021 16:48

Definitely bring her to A&E. A GP can only do so much, where as a hospital can have a look inside with xrays. Bonus if they say she's OK.

MargaretThursday · 19/04/2021 16:48

I've had both situations.

Dd doubled over in pain, real agony. The GP sent us to A&E on at least 2 occasions with possible appendicitis. On one occasion was very close to being admitted and operated on. Pain level was at least 12/10 according to her.
Conclusion: Mostly abdominal migraines, mixed with anxiety and a dose of the dramatics.

Then I had ds who nearly got discharged from A&E by the surgical team when they asked for pain level and he said around 2/10, occasionally rising to 4/10.
He was operated upon the next day (took over 4 hours!) with appendicitis.

Tbf if she said it hurt and went out to play I wouldn't be too worried. Ds, even with the 2/10 pain spent 24 hours in bed because it hurt more to move.
If she doesn't improve, then I would take her to A&E and see the paed there, but it sounds offhand more like dd's abdominal migraine. That's not a medical opinion, so any worry get seen.

Starlight86 · 19/04/2021 16:49

Yes this seems unlike her, shes never complained of a sore tummy before but seems to be really struggling with it.

I will watch her for the next couple of hours and if the pain persists ill call nhs24.
I assume docs just do the tummy press test and if its fine then they assume all is ok.

Yes seems it started yesterday but didnt pay much attention as she was out playing living her best life, today she seems more lethargic though although aware she could have just caught a bug.

With 3 daughters im certainly use to a dose of the dramatics thrown in so your always trying to weigh up if they are actually that bad lol.

There are so many causes of a sore tummy in kids a lot of the time the doctors have no clue, and if it's fine when pressed it must be ok without looking into it properly.

It really is, i feel there is such a fine line and its alot of pressure trying to make a decision of what way to go.

However on the 2 occasions ive fought for my children in hospitals i have proven to be right x

Yes this is it. It literally could be anything but when shes in pain shes crying in agony which makes me question if it is just a bug.

When I was a child I had a torsion ovarian cyst. It went on for four months and was very intermittent. Some days I was fine and others I couldn’t move.

Obviously not saying that’s what it is, but I would also be a&e. My own experiences may cloud that judgment though.

TheThingsWeAdmitOnMN · 19/04/2021 16:58

I know she's young, but has she shown any signs of puberty? I was like that for a week or so before I got my first period. I was older than your DD, but well under 50kg. Well enough to be running around & bouncing on the trampoline, but then in excruciating pain.

Only other time I had appendicitis, but no rumblings until very late one night. I was rushed in & had it removed very quickly, they said it was full of sepsis & I was very lucky it hadn't burst before they took it out.

Hope she's better soon. Don't hesitate to take her to A&E.

Don't waste your time with 111. According to them I was constipated (despite having no bowel issues at all).

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 19/04/2021 17:02

My DD had something similar sounding at age 8 or 9. It would come and go lasting a couple of days each time. She was eventually diagnosed with abdominal migraines. She's 14 now and gets proper head migraines quite a lot. Maybe Google that and see if it fits?

Maray1967 · 19/04/2021 17:49

A & E. my GP told me that appendicitis in childhood is usually accompanied by vomiting. He told me this when one of mine had abdominal pain but without the vomiting.
I had appendicitis at 7 and mine was misdiagnosed. GP insisted it was appendix and argued on phone with hospital dr who said it was constipation. I was operated on the next morning. I have a friend who had it as an adult and it was misdiagnosed as an ectopic pregnancy. If the pain and or vomiting continue, don’t hesitate.

VegCheeseandCrackers · 19/04/2021 18:05

My uncle was in pain and saw his doctor twice. He was told to go home and rest. He did that and days later ended up being rushed to hospital with a burst appendix and took sepsis. He's fully recovered but it was a long road. I don't say this to scare you at all but if you're not sure then don't be afraid to go to a and e. Best case scenario she will get assessed again and sent home and your mind will be at rest.

WorkingOnItWhateverItIs · 19/04/2021 19:40

Potentially abdominal migraines? Stomach pain and lethargy (falling asleep when they wouldn't normally) followed by throwing up. Hopefully it's something like this and nothing more serious
