DD is 8, yesterday she was complaining of stomach pain and nausea but was out playing most of the day.

This morning she was doubled over in the fetal position, after calpol she felt better and wanted to go to school. I said to her to get the school to call me if the pain returned. Heard nothing until husband picked her up (im working) and shes still in alot of pain but she says it comes and goes.
She had asked the school to call me as she said she was walking crouched with the pain and they said no ( thats another story!!)

Anyways got her a doctor app which husband took her to, he called to tell me doc said she is fine as when she pressed there was no pain.

Hes back home with her and shes in pain again hanging over the toilet saying shes going to be sick.

This is unlike her, and im worried its appendicitis. But also aware the doctor checked her out only half an hour ago.

Talk me down....

Bless her. A&E, does it matter if it's something and nothing in the end? Just take her and have her checked out

junebirthdaygirl · 19/04/2021 21:22

My ds always got bad stomach pains from tonsillitis. Doctors missed it as always checked tummy..never throat. Eventually a locum doctor spotted it and said poison from infection was giving him a tummy pain. Had tonsils out in no time.
Also is there talk that tummy pain is associated with Covid in children. I am a teacher and we send children home immediately with tummy pains just to be sure it's not Covid. These are our instructions

When DH had appendicitis he was clearly v unwell. His actual pain didn't appear too bad but he was sick, slept, complained of wind type pain - he looked grey. It began a couple of days earlier with what we call 'gut rot pain' and got progressively worst. He also had a v unsettled night the night before went to hospital

TheBigFatMermaid · 19/04/2021 21:46

My DD had pain coming and going. Got dx with gastroenteritis.

Took her back to MIU 3 times and saw the same Dr each time. He said "I'm pretty sure it's gastro but I operate a 3 strikes and you're out policy,so it's off to big hospital for you".

Her appendix had burst by the time they operated.

Hankunamatata · 19/04/2021 21:49

Presuming they dipped her urine for an infection?

Starlight86 · 19/04/2021 22:05

Urine was dipped and clear.

All vitals appeared fine.

She went in for a bath and although still in waves of pain she’s not screaming or crying with it. Just seems unsettled with it.
She’s went to sleep and I will keep a close eye on her and if the pain gets worse or she becomes unwel I won’t hesitate to take her in.

We had similar and it was pneumonia. Sepsis and a long stay in hospital followed she was extremely unwell but very stoical and underplayed the pain.

FireflyRainbow · 19/04/2021 23:56

Mine got sent home from out of hours and the hospital following an ultrasound with a shit trainee. They said he was fine. Appendix burst and he had a severe infection spent 2 weeks in hospital.

FireflyRainbow · 19/04/2021 23:57

My son wasn't even in pain after it had burst but his fever was really high so took him back thank god.

FireflyRainbow · 19/04/2021 23:58

They said his burst appendix was abdominal fucking migraine. Bastards. Hope your child is ok.

Aprilshowersandhail · 20/04/2021 09:27

Hoping your dd is fine today op..

Starlight86 · 20/04/2021 09:43

Make sure she doesn't eat or drink incase she needs surgery.. Poor bairn.

LagneyandCasey · 20/04/2021 10:31

Oh the poor girl Sad I hope she's OK.

Mittens030869 · 20/04/2021 11:04

If this doctor I’d unhelpful as well, I agree that you should take her to A&E.

MegaClutterSlut · 20/04/2021 11:46

Sounds really similar to my dhs pain before he was admitted to have his appendix removed. Poor girl, hope its sorted for her soon Flowers

Starlight86 · 20/04/2021 11:52

Husband took her to doctors, he said she was examines thoroughly.

The doctor pressed quite hard but said its not appendicitis as thats not where the pain is. She thinks she has a blockage ( even though she pood sunday and this morning)

She said when she was feeling and pressing her tummy area she could feel movement and her tummy was very gurgly almost colicky....

She has given her something to take today to help "clear the blockage"

Ill admit im not 100% happy with that explanation but also dont want to waste precious a&e time. My husband and i have agreed that if she gets any worse or has a temp we will take her straight to a&e.

With the greatest of respect, fuck the GP, mine missed my rupturing appendix and the pain can be quite diffuse. Take her to A&E so she can be properly assessed by surgical experts. If she's sent home then it's at the cost of a few hours in return for peace of mind.

denverRegina · 20/04/2021 12:01

"dont want to waste precious a&e time"

Ffs, she's a child. It's not a waste of their time. She's been screaming in agony and clearly doesn't have a blockage as she's been to the toilet.

Just take her in

LagneyandCasey · 20/04/2021 12:22

Never see A&E as a waste of anyone's time, op. Trust your instinct and take her to be properly examined. Even if it's not appendix (I hope not), 'screaming in pain' needs properly checking out.

PeskyRooksRGT · 20/04/2021 12:24

I think I would be taking her in OP. It's been quite a while now. I always think
What's the worst that can happen if I take her in and she's OK?
What's the worst thing that can happen if I don't take her in and she's not OK?
Best of luck hope she feels better soon Flowers

LolaNova · 20/04/2021 12:27

Hope the GP is right and it starts to ease OP but don’t be afraid to seek a second opinion!

Crustybreadandbutter · 20/04/2021 12:43

There are very few certainties in medicine and things can become clearer over time

I have had 2 DC with appendicitis. One ruptured quickly (as soon as symptoms), one didn’t after 4 days. If it’s not totally gone at any time since yesterday I’d take her to A&E for bloods and review. It took 3 days in hospital before one of mine was diagnosed for definite. Both obviously fine now without an appendix!

Good luck either way and bring phone, books and DCs pyjamas to A&E.

FrankButchersDickieBow · 20/04/2021 12:49

Ahh I hope your daughter is okay OP. It's so horrible when your child is sick. You just want to take the pain away for them.

Hope the doctor is correct and she is om the mend soon.

edwinbear · 20/04/2021 12:56

I had appendicitis last year, I went to A&E and they did the tummy press thing as well as bloods and said it wasn't presenting as appendicitis but I was clearly in so much pain they want to do a scan (MRI I think, in the big machine) to be sure. Turned out it very much was appendicitis. They said it doesn't always present very clearly. Please take her to A&E, don't let her suffer.
