Dog bite- I'm an idiot **warning - images of wounds**

Name changed and posting for traffic. This morning I prevented a dog from darting into a busy main road, found the owners house and returned her. I got a nasty bite got my efforts. I realise now I was stupid to pick the little thing up but it was instinct to prevent the dog being hit by a car.
The owner had left the house door open and the dog had wandered off. Both dog and owner are elderly.
I've been to A and E as directed by my GP and been patched up but boy it hurts. I've got two nasty puncture wounds to my hand and two lots of antibiotics.
I have some questions now the shock has worn off (I'm not good with blood and it was pouring and I was already feeling ropey due to something else).

Has anyone got experience of this and if so how long did it take to heal?

When did it stop hurting like a bastard?

Do I need to report this to the police or dog warden? The dog was obviously scared and bit me for a reason. I was stupid and I accept that. I just never considered it would bite me like that. I'm not a dog person but overcame my fear years ago now. I'm glad the dog is safe and the owner was very nice when I returned her home. I declined her offer of going inside to wash the round as was not far from home, and covid of course.

Good news I hope OP?

And I know I keep going on about it, but please tell me that the dog's owners have at least apologised or enquired after your wellbeing? Being elderly is no excuse for bad manners or letting your animals bite people...they're not that elderly or infirm anyway, are they? I'd be fuming if I hadn't at least got an apology.

As I say, I'm interested in this because I got an even worse dog bite, but it was cleaned in hospital almost straight away and the initial antibiotics did the trick. And I had a proper apology from the dog owner. The bruising for the next 3 weeks was unreal though!

eejitgothurt · 05/05/2021 14:48

She apologised and gave me tulips and chocolates Smile The bruising on my cannula hand is still quite amazing. I'm going to ask him about the fight I must have had with the anaesthetist 🤣 I'm not difficult to cannulate so I'm still baffled by the amount of bruising and how many attempts it took. My injured hand is so dry as due to the bandage I can't get hand cream on very well and I can't wait to give it a good wash and slather it in cream.

Oh thats good to hear! Not so good about the bruising but hopefully in a few weeks time it will all be a distant memory Flowers

eejitgothurt · 05/05/2021 15:15

I can see my hand! And it's a normal size!

Oh no, get some super moisturising hand cream & use it after every time you wash your hands & hopefully it'll be back to normal soon 🤞🏻

My mum's arm was really dry & peel-y after she had her sling off (broken arm) she used to moisturise & then use her nails to scrape the dead skin off 🤢

LadyEloise · 06/05/2021 08:45

That looks so sore eejitgothurt.
A kind eejit got hurt.
Use plenty of hand cream. I love Palmers Coconut, it's very good, smells lovely and is cheap as chips.

eejitgothurt · 07/05/2021 21:56

My hand is looking less elderly now and it's lovely to be able to thoroughly wash it. The dry skin has mainly flaked off now and it's stopped being as itchy. The wound is healing well and I don't to think it will be much of a scar so not much to regale the grandchildren with in later yearsGrin
I'm still amazed at how much trouble a little bite caused.

Updated pictures to show how well it's healed. Loads of skin has peeled off today which was fun. The scar is going to be tiny and barely noticeable. There's a slight ridge and it's hard at the top but otherwise nothing much at all. Still hurts a fair bit though especially if I wash up so thank goodness the dishwasher is getting repaired on Wednesday! It's scary to know how fast the past 3 weeks have gone.

Blumming nora, you were seriously unlucky there, what a nightmare to result from a kind deed!

Maybe BiteyMarthas owner could have a babygate or screen door installed so that BiteyMartha can't bolt again?

Fingers x the healing is alllllll going in the right direction now, and also thanks to your thread I have stumbled upon the user @DiddlyWiddly who I was accused of being last week, since we appear not to have been on the same post before, hello DiddlyWiddly! waves

eejitgothurt · 10/05/2021 21:51
Grin I've just peeled another big piece of skin off. Oh and another! I'm such a sporner, sorry.

Stop peeling and picking it....!!!!!!

I also would pick it.

If you'd like I'll share a pic of my fat leg where my idiot lurcher mistook me for his idiot brother in an altercation over a very dead rat and bit me, leading to me dancing round the room going I DONT WANT YOUR FUCKING RAT YOU DICKHEAD... The bruising is glorious and technicolour!

To be fair to him, he let go pretty quick when he realised it was me he was chomping, but not quick enough that i didnt have two big holes and have to go to A&E during the scary times of the first lockdown to get a tetanus jab cos he'd nailed me with the same fangs he'd used to nail the rat....

eejitgothurt · 11/05/2021 19:13

Oooh yes let's see the pictures! I'll ask
HQ to put a warning on about the photos as I realised last night that some people might freak out or throw upGrin

I hope your dog was very apologetic!

All the dry skin has peeled off now. It's really sensitised and I've kept a plaster on it to stop things brushing against it as the sensation isn't nice.

That's peeling, I mean healing nicely!

WiddlinDiddlin · 17/05/2021 11:05

@eejitgothurt
My apologies, I forgot to check back! Here we go, inside of my fat thigh above the knee if you are confused by anatomy! Day 1 and day 12 i think...

Two courses of antibiotics required as the infection would not go but it did stay just in my leg and not track anywhere, and thanks to my copious amounts of flab, nothing vital was injured!

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 17/05/2021 11:46

Shit! That's awful!

BobLemon · 17/05/2021 12:10

Flipping heck! Well done OP. Grim photos.

BeepBoopBop · 17/05/2021 12:40

I think you sound so lovely OP. I'm sorry you were so hurt by the little devil dog (he probably didn't mean it)... I hope your recovery continues and that the LOL doesn't accidentally let her grumpy old git out again! If it were one of my dogs you saved, I would be forever in your debt!

eejitgothurt · 06/06/2021 22:29

Christ! That's awful! Sorry, I forgot to come back and comment.
My hand still hurts every now and again and itches. It objects to peeling potatoes and apples and carrots and chopping things.
The scars aren't very noticeable now, just red but I think they'll fade to next to nothing.

My cat bit me really deep and hard on the 9 of May and almost a month later the bite/scratch marks (6 on my left hand all up) have almost healed but I am going to have 2 big scars. My entire hand swelled and ached. I was given tablet antibiotics and a tetanus shot, and my arm in a sling and sent home.
