My DD (4) has just got another UTI. The last time she had one she was really poorly, fever sickness ect, however this time the only symptom was needing to go to the toilet a lot. Every time she went she was still having quite a big wee. I took her to the drs and they confirmed and put her on antibiotics. That was on Friday.
Since yesterday she has been needing the toilet a lot more, she keeps crying saying it's coming right then and there so it's a rush to get her to the toilet, but when she goes she's having to push and it's only a couple of drips that come out. She hasn't done a proper wee since yesterday morning. Do you think I need to take her back to the gp tomorrow or does she need something more urgent? She seems absolutely fine in her self otherwise

Take her back. Poor soul. I regularly have urine infections that send a wave of pain so bad I can feel it in my hands. I know how out there and Bollocks this sounds but I swear it is the truth. Uti can be so so painful. Take her back ASAP. How unfair for her.

Thanks for all the replies. I spoke to 111 and they got a dr to phone me back, she said the fact that she's fine in herself is a good sign. She thinks she will just need a stronger dose of antibiotics but I'm waiting for her to call back to confirm this. My DD has also been referred to peads for a bladder and kidney scan as this is the second infection she's had and apparently little ones aren't supposed to get them

My daughter had suffered from recurrent uti's, our top tips, plenty of fluids to flush it out, but no orange, caffeine or blackcurrant as these stimulate the bladder.
Check what they've prescribed you, it's normally trimethoprim which has never worked for us, cephalexin and nitrafurantoin are much more effective.

Cranberry juice is no better than plain water. It was a marketing campaign by a cranberry juice company.

That's really helpful to know, her fav thing is black currant squash so when we are trying to persuade her to drink more than usual we would offer her that. Will just stick to the water for now. Yes we are on the trimethoprim, it doesn't seem to be working at all so far. Last time she was given erythromycin I think and that helped straight away

It may be that she’s on the “wrong” antibiotic- quite often they have to grow a sample and then test what is effective on it. If she doesn’t improve I would be asking if this is a possibility. You should be fine to leave it until tomorrow but I wouldn’t wait longer. And if she starts acting oddly (confused etc) or has a temperature I would get her to a doctor or A&E ASAP.

@MakingPlans21
I wasn’t aware children could get UTIs.
Mine got loads. I felt really crap like I not taught her to wipe properly or something. It was related to immature kidneys, she gradually grew out of it by 5 and 1/2.

@Heronwatcher
Yes the dr took a sample on Friday and it has been sent off to the hospital to be tested so I'm going to ring up tomorrow and see if the results are back yet, I'm hoping they will swap antibiotics as these don't seem to be helping at all

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz
If she uses any product at all in her baths, stop using them. Water only.
Is she willing herself front to back every time she uses the toilet?
I never put anything in the bath as her and her brother both have very sensitive skin.
I've been teaching her how to wipe properly and every time I've seen her do it she does do it right, however this week I've been wiping for her just to make sure whilst she has the infection

Salt water bath.
( can use normal table salt )
It really helps ease the burning pain
I regularly had Uti as a child and my mum used to do this for me
I’ve used it for my own children especially before bed and helps ease any burning pain and helps them sleep ( best to have the a bath after a wee )
