My DD (4) has just got another UTI. The last time she had one she was really poorly, fever sickness ect, however this time the only symptom was needing to go to the toilet a lot. Every time she went she was still having quite a big wee. I took her to the drs and they confirmed and put her on antibiotics. That was on Friday.
Since yesterday she has been needing the toilet a lot more, she keeps crying saying it's coming right then and there so it's a rush to get her to the toilet, but when she goes she's having to push and it's only a couple of drips that come out. She hasn't done a proper wee since yesterday morning. Do you think I need to take her back to the gp tomorrow or does she need something more urgent? She seems absolutely fine in her self otherwise

Don't worry about what's going on in the world, your DD needs help & your GP/hospital isn't going to change what's going on in the world if you don't book appointments!

I know you're trying to measure her wee, but if it's still hurting her to go, then I'd use water based help to soothe that, rather than worry about measuring it. If she doesn't want to stand in the shower to wee (it is a faff) see if you can get the shower hose to reach the toilet or pour jugs if warm water over her vulva while she's sitting on the toilet, basically diluting any wee that does come out and the water encourages the wee too, maybe sing a sing/read a book/talk about something fun - anything to distract her.

As well as her bottle of water - have competitions to see who can drink a glass of water first. Even better if she has siblings!

Remind her that if she drinks lots of water her wee will hurt less because it's less 'strong'. (I explained it like adding cold water to hot to cool it down).

Hopefully they'll give you the other antibiotics tomorrow. Keep a note of the ones that work well so you can ask for them
If it happens again.

I put disposable wet night sheets on the sofa & on the bed, just so there was no panic if the urgent need wee 'escaped' a bit & took away some of their worry.

Hope she's better soon, poor little moppet.

Yes I took her back yesterday and they have given her some other medication. She also seems to be needing to go less so hopefully we are on the mend now!

Glad she is better- my dd all grown up now but it got so bad in the end for her she had to wear pads to school-she was completely fine by about age 9/10

Bless her! Another vote here for weeing in the bath.

My SDD suffered with them horribly often from about age 6, but just seemed to grow out of them. I don’t think she’s had one since primary school. Nothing ever identified as causing them, just one of those rubbish things Sad

UTI's/cystitis are awful when you're an adult and she's a child - i really feel for her.
I used a pantyliner/pad when it happened to me - provided some comfort knowing i wouldn't wet myself, perhaps you could try that until it clears up?

A hot water bottle between the legs stops the urge to pee/helps the pain for next time
