I was watching from about 2.50 and did observe the minutes silence.

It was a lovely service and I felt greatly for all those who loved him.

Isthereaduckinthehouse · 17/04/2021 20:50

Is Sophie significantly younger than the Diana and Fergie era then? I only recall hearing about Diana and Fergie! Have not a clue who Anne married and Edward did well for himself if Sophie is his wife. She's very beautiful.

PrelovedWithValue · 17/04/2021 20:50

@Isthereaduckinthehouse

* PrelovedWithValue Thanks. I get confused with them all. So Sophie would have been Phillip's DIL? I guess it's those who have little blonde girls? Or is there a generation after them?
Yes, she was his DIL. I know they have children, but that's the extent of my knowledge. I'm not sure on number, age or sex.
Maggiesfarm · 17/04/2021 20:53

Blimey, I think what the Queen has done during her reign is a tremendous amount of work. I couldn't do that, would never have coped with having to be in several places in one day, in and out of cars, presenting myself as tidy and alert at each place. All that travelling about, people constantly bringing me requests, telling me I need to go here or there or see that person. I'd need a month's holiday after a week.

You wouldn't be able to faint, have a headache, a bad period. If your skirt hem was caught in your heel it would be all over the paper.

No thanks, I prefer my life and wouldn't swap it for all the money and privilege.

Isthereaduckinthehouse · 17/04/2021 20:55

How old is Sophie, Countess of Wessex and where is she from? Sophie Rhys-Jones was born in Oxford, on January 20, 1965. She celebrated her 56th birthday in 2021. She was born into a middle-class family. There is no way that woman is 51!!!! That or I need glasses. Or some serious botox for myself or something. That's mad!

1 July 1961 - Diana was born

15 October 1959 - Fergie was born

It's interesting that I've only really heard of the latter two. There's only 4 years between Diana and Sophie. Did she marry Edward late in life or something?

Isthereaduckinthehouse · 17/04/2021 20:56

No thanks, I prefer my life and wouldn't swap it for all the money and privilege. They're not accepting applications at this time.

Panpastels · 17/04/2021 20:57

Would not have occurred to me to do that. I'm not anti royal but I have no interest in them at all, nor will I mourn the loss of one of them.

Isthereaduckinthehouse · 17/04/2021 20:58

I thought it was nice what Sophie said about Philip's passing, that it was like someone took his hand and he just slipped away. It sounded very peaceful and she seemed genuinely moved. That's why I was wondering who she was!

Maggiesfarm · 17/04/2021 20:59

Isthereadduckinthehouse, Sophie is the daughter in law of the Queen and the late Duke, married to their youngest child, Edward, Duke of Wessex. They have a daughter, Louise, and a younger son, James. They are the Queen's youngest grandchildren.

The little blonde haired children are the Queen's great grandchildren, her daughter Princess Anne's grandchildren. Princess Anne has two children, Peter and Zara, who between them have four girls and a baby boy.

Mittens030869 · 17/04/2021 20:59

I remember that Sophie had an ectopic pregnancy the first time, but I don’t remember how many children she has now.

FlattestWhite · 17/04/2021 20:59

I think she did marry later than the other two. And had children quite late. Hers aren't the little blonde girls from some of the photos (I think those are great grandchildren). Hers are the teenagers that were with her today. The older one is a girl, also blonde, quite tall, and the younger one is a boy, too young to walk with the other male grandchildren behind the coffin I think.

ineedaholidaynow · 17/04/2021 21:00

Edward's and Sophie's children were at the funeral

Mittens030869 · 17/04/2021 21:01

Oh yes, cross posted. I remember the daughter now I think about it but not the younger son. But my own life has been more difficult the last couple of years so I’ve taken less notice of what the Royals are up to.

Thanks for that. I hear the names, but they tend to say Zara Phillips. I am familiar with the name, but wouldn't have had the faintest notion that she was a first cousin of William and Harry. Media tends to assume that you know who they are so never explain who exactly they are in relation to the Queen. I just give up and assume they're all distant cousins or something. I really should try to pay more attention as I find them to be a fascinating family to observe, much as one might find chimpanzees amusing in a zoo.
FlattestWhite · 17/04/2021 21:05

I agree Sophie is beautiful! Though the BBC used an unflattering shot of her on their who's who page of who was coming to the funeral - there are much nicer ones on some of the other pages. She seems very kind, comforting the others, and always quite protective of her children, especially the young boy. The older one seems to be out in public a bit more now that she is older.

Isthereaduckinthehouse · 17/04/2021 21:06

In an ideal world all three DIL's might have been close. If their husbands (with the exception of Edward it appears?) were not arseholes. All three had a lot in common it seems.

SuziQuatrosFatNan · 17/04/2021 21:08

Prince Edward is married? I thought he was gay.

Oh well, obviously not.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 17/04/2021 21:09

Genuinely think that when the CoD herself finally leaves this world, it’s time to consider moving on from monarchy

Isthereaduckinthehouse · 17/04/2021 21:10

Pity that there is a rift with Kate & Meghan too. So Eugenie and Beatrice are now happily married I think. So Sophie and Edward's are too young yet to marry, then there are Anne's. Zara Phillips and a son. Zara's children are the cute little blondies. Does the son have children?

blowinahoolie · 17/04/2021 21:11

No, was spending time with family I haven't seen in months!

Isthereaduckinthehouse · 17/04/2021 21:12

LOL. Welcome to my world. I have no clue about any of them. They were a bit before my time for me to know them without having to google them all.
SuziQuatrosFatNan · 17/04/2021 21:19

@Isthereaduckinthehouse tbf I don't think we hear much about Prince Edward because all the headlines are taken up by the ones that are philanderers and child traffickers.

Isthereaduckinthehouse · 17/04/2021 21:23

True, it seems he's the only one who has remained married then. I thought I heard the media saying something like as 'one by one his children's marriages ended'. I presumed that they all had. Maybe Edward is a good egg. I've never really heard mention of him to be honest. I've noticed his wife, but always thought she must be a cousin somehow. Had no idea she was married to a son of the queen. She seems like a lovely person and is effortlessly beautiful and elegant.

SuziQuatrosFatNan · 17/04/2021 21:25

I think they're all cousins though aren't they? I'm a bit hazy on details but they all look the same.

ineedaholidaynow · 17/04/2021 21:27

Who are cousins?
