To get my hair cut short, really short

Mylittlesandwich · 16/04/2021 23:55

I'm 28 and fat. Really very fat. I've hidden behind long hair for about a decade. I'm coming out the other side of a challenging pregnancy followed by PND followed by DH being unemployed and working 2 jobs.

I finally have clothes that I like and look good on me but my hair is a disaster, I dyed it myself about 2 years ago and have been so attached to the length that I've let it grow out and it looks weird. I feel like it's time for a change but I don't want to regret it.

Attached is the style I have my eye on but not the colour.

I think I'd be asking the stylist's advice on this. They can see you and your face shape, and will have a good idea of whether it will end up flattering or not.

bluebluezoo · 17/04/2021 13:42

Why do you have to go from one extreme to the other?

Why not? Personally I hate leaving a hairdressers looking no different, I like to see what I’ve paid for!

Plus at the minute my hair is driving me mad. It’s long, gets tangled easily, and I cba with it. Really looking foward to getting it all chopped off. If I decide I want something a bit more in between I’ll grow it.

Do it o/p!

BadEyeBri · 17/04/2021 14:00

That's a great cut. Go for it. But be mindful it will be a PITA to grow out. I speak from experience as my side undercut (?) is now 3-4 inches long and so annoying

OscarWildesCat · 17/04/2021 16:37

I have my hair short and always have, if you’ve done it before you’ll know you like it. I don’t get the fear of it, it’ll grow back. I like my hair to be funky and different, not boring and looking like everyone else’s.

Beamur · 17/04/2021 16:40

Find a stylish you trust.
I'd say go for it. My DD had been asking for short hair for a while and did the getting shorter each time thing but went for a proper crop about a year ago. She loves it.

BetsyBigNose · 17/04/2021 17:30

My 14 year old DD has an appointment to have her hair cut like this (although without the shaved bits, which wouldn't be ok for school), as she's been wanting to go short for ages. She used to have white blonde hair that was really long - bum length - but it had started to darken and she was fed up with how much hassle it was to wash and dry as it was so thick.

We did it in stages, she had it shoulder length to start with, so she could still put it up out of the way, then a chin length bob, but she's ready for the 'Big Chop' now and she's really excited - I can only hope she loves it and it's not too much hassle for her to style!

I'm glad you've decided to go for it, there's nothing like a fabulous new hairstyle for making you feel good!

OwlBeThere · 17/04/2021 17:33

My daughter cut her hair from waist length to a very short pixie recently and it looks SO good. I think it can be very liberating to make a big change, I’m always changing my hair and it fun!

Mwnci123 · 18/04/2021 00:07

I love that style. Do it!

Mylittlesandwich · 25/04/2021 22:57

Tomorrow is the day and I still haven't completely decided tbh.

Do it!

Branleuse · 25/04/2021 23:05

Do it. Its only hair. It grows back

Goldrill · 25/04/2021 23:07

My hair was beautiful, blonde, thick, waist length and I got it all chopped off. Ended up with a lovely pixie which actually suited me. The long hair in itself was very nice but it didn't particularly suit me, and it definitely didn't suit my personality.
It's got a bit longer again this year as DH proved to be spectacularly crap with clippers. Now long enough to tie back, and very nearly all beautiful again and it makes me feel like a middle aged frumpy. It will be going as soon as I can get an appointment, and then it will also be changing colour.

Hair should suit who you are as a person. Not trying to advise you either way, as no one here has seen your current hair; just that it's not always about whether it looks pretty or not.
Good luck for tomorrow and please put up before and after pics!

LaurieFairyCake · 26/04/2021 00:05

I really want to see it mow Smile

It's a great style

Hexinthecity · 26/04/2021 08:02

Do it! I’ve did the same about 4 years ago, it’s evolved a bit over theblastv4 years with the way I colour and style and I love it, easier hair style to maintain. Dh clippers my undercut when needed so it’s not that bad with needing regular hairdresser visits,

EmeraldShamrock · 26/04/2021 09:30

Go for it you only live one life.

Mylittlesandwich · 26/04/2021 17:28

Well I did it and I love it! It's not quite as curly as the picture but it still looks great.

Ooo let's see!
I had my hair cut short just before lockdown, it's all grown out and looking weird now so I need some encouragement to get it cut again!

TimeForTeaAndG · 26/04/2021 18:30

Yay!!!!

sweatervest · 26/04/2021 18:34

i used to have my hair like that and i thought i looked like frankie sandford.

i looked like frankie sandford if she'd put on 932 stone and aged 8391 years but i still LOVED having my hair like that.
hope you have a fabulous cut!!

Pinkyavocado · 26/04/2021 18:42

As long as you have time to do it every day then go for it. It’s a nice style.

I would go for a angled Bob. This haircut will look good when cut but within a week or two will need a touch up and will be a bugger to grow out due to the different lengths. I've had something like this before and hated it after the first week.

Bergamotte · 26/04/2021 18:50

Nice!

Once you've lived with it for a bit and got used to it, you could even play with having the "long" side cut a bit shorter next time.

EmeraldShamrock · 26/04/2021 19:16

It's gorgeous.

tuttifuckinfruity · 26/04/2021 19:43

Love it!

Definitely the right decision.

However, if I were you, I would go shorter next time. Just like the pic.

Well done Smile
