To want to faint in McDonalds?

TheLowestFlyer · 12/04/2021 12:18

DH has slowly introduced a regime of positive reinforcement that, for a wide range of reasons, means I have to take the DC to McDonalds once a month for a sit down meal. This produces a physical response in me that makes me want to, first, gag and then faint. I assume it must be the vaporised oil in the air, the terrible food odours and weird and discoloured plastic decor (and the hyperactive and frankly unappealing toddlers screaming around whenever we go?). Whatever it is, it triggers a really intense response from me and I basically dread these scheduled outings and have to choke back vomiting for the whole meal.

Unfortunately the DC have become really emotionally invested in these going to MacDonalds (to what I think is a really unhealthy level) and DH's schedule means that I am unquestionably the only one who can take then. How do I extricate myself from going to McDonalds? Has anyone else weaned their DC from depending fast food? They genuinely love it, especially the earth-killing toys they abandon minutes after leaving Sad

Not sure it can be very pleasant for your kids to be sitting next to you dry retching throughout a meal, so I’d stop for the kids sake. Ain’t no one wants to see that,..😃

Chickenlickeninthepot · 12/04/2021 12:49

I haven't had a McDs in years and I've gone veggie so no idea what I order. That said I could absolutely smash a large fries right now.

If your DH wants to introduce a weird regime then he can deal with the treats too.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 12/04/2021 12:49

Yes, OP. Faint. That's the sensible thing to do.

Stop being ridiculous.

RampantIvy · 12/04/2021 12:50

I'm confused

GoToSleepBabyPlease · 12/04/2021 12:50

I'm not sure what the McDs in Aus are like, OP, but if they have outdoor seating areas like many of ours do, could you sit outside? Presumably that'd eradicate the majority of smell and decor issues?

DIshedUp · 12/04/2021 12:51

Mcdonalds is the perfect if your feeling faint! Id recommend ordering yourself a big mac and full sugar coke, it will help

IDontCarryOnLikeAPorkChop · 12/04/2021 12:51

@TheLowestFlyer How many posts do we need before you tell us why you sound like you can't say "No, I can't do it. You take them" to your DH?

SonicStars · 12/04/2021 12:51

Take away in the local country park.

You're in australia? Most of us are in the Uk. You'd have more luck posting in an Aussie chat room/ forum

Why? This is Mumsnet.com not .co.uk It's to support mum's worldwide not just for the UK FFS

OP I kind of get where you're coming from but I have sensory issues around smells like this. I used to have to walk the long way around the school I worked in so I didn't have to walk through the dining hall as it made me feel sick and faint. Do you have sensory issues? As for your DH controlling you? Just tell him no! If he has an issue with that then he can figure out a time he can take them himself

HemanOrSheRa · 12/04/2021 12:53

@LDom

I read a thread last night (wanted to respond but couldn't log in so 'joined' MN today).from someone who had ordered a McDonalds to feed her starving children which arrived cold and was delivered in a dirty bag. This caused her to have an attack of the vapours and the food went in the bin.

Thread has disappeared today!

Are you coming out in sympathy with that poster, TheLowestFlyer? :-)

I'm having something from Burger King for lunch.

Just what I was thinking.

How do you feel about The Sistine Chapel?
@DustOnTheWind That was a great thread, did it make it into classics?

She wept, wailed, and screamed of course Grin
TheVolturi · 12/04/2021 12:54

Yabu because mcdonald's is the best, if they made eau de mcds I'd wear it.

BikeRunSki · 12/04/2021 12:54

I’m very intrigued by the regime/regimen that is do structured around regular MaccyD’s.

itsgettingwierd · 12/04/2021 12:56

Macdonalds isn't your problem.

It's the husband who seems to think he has a right to dictate your schedule.

Just take them somewhere else instead 🤷‍♀️

Beautiful3 · 12/04/2021 12:56

I hate sitting in Macdonald's. I use the drive through and they eat at home. Only get one roughly every 6 months.

GCAcademic · 12/04/2021 12:56

Gutted I didn't get in there first with the Sistine Chapel question.

stackemhigh · 12/04/2021 12:57

Ealing McDonald’s was letting people sit inside in on Friday.

OP, DH wants them to go, then he takes them.

Houseofvelour · 12/04/2021 12:57

😂
icdtap · 12/04/2021 12:58

FFS... someone got there before me with the Sistine Chapel comment!!!

Anyway, this is totally ludicrous. On the off chance you are genuine, DH should take them to McDonalds. He's got a fucking cheek coming up with a "regime of positive reinforcement" and then leaving you to do the McDs trips.
Either he takes them to McDs or you insist on another option for the positive reinforcement - PizzaHut, KFC etc (but you might have heart palpitations there so maybe not the best idea).

LakieLady · 12/04/2021 12:58

@Thehawki

If it’s the light and noise op are you prone to migraines? I get nauseous when I have a migraine, mine can be triggered by bright fluorescent lights and loud noises . If I were you I’d go in and order to take out. I doubt the kids will care where they’re eating it.
I was going to mention this. One of the first migraines I had started in a Macdonalds, and a couple of years ago I got the migraine "aura" after just standing in the queue for a few minutes (this really surprised me, as I rarely get migraines these days, thanks to being post-menopausal).

That combination of brightness, smell and noise can be a huge trigger for a lot of migraine sufferers and not everyone gets an actual headache with an attack.

If it is an atypical migraine, a pre-emptive dose of migraine medication might work, otherwise find an alternative "reward" or get your DH to take them, as it was his bright idea.

Brownfrown · 12/04/2021 12:59

So basically what you have to do is say ‘guys, I’m not taking you to Mac Donald’s anymore because I don’t like it.’ Then you stop taking them.

I always wanted to go when I was a child, my parents wouldn’t let me and I’m fine.
