AIBU?

To think it's actually insane to take your children to Buckingham Palace at 1am

I wouldn't normally 'pick on' someone in the news for their actions but am I alone in thinking this is actual insanity? A man took his children to Buckingham Palace at 1am to pay their respects to the Duke (to 'avoid the crowds').

He also says they were 'quite cut up' about the Duke dying. I mean come on - he's 99 and you didn't know him?! Why the hell would you drag your kids out in the freezing cold street to stand in front of the palace at 1am?

@Hellocatshome

Its something to do I suppose, after going stir crazy with lockdown it might have seemed like a good idea for an outing.

I'm that bored right now, I'm thinking this looks a good idea.

Laziness is the only thing stopping me.

Ridiculous behaviour at any time. I can't understand the behaviour of those either taking flowers or crying.

I remember when Diana died, a girl I worked with took all 3 children on the train to London to queue for hours to write something in the books of condolence.
The following day she thought of something she wanted to add to it, so took all 3 kids up to London again the following day! Batcrap crazy!

Just a side note, I did notice that the majority of the flowers weren't in plastic wrapping and were laid apart from each other which is much better than them all ending up in a mouldering heap.

Maybe if the stop covering ii, people will stop turning up.

Agreed. If you were desperate to get on the TV then the opportunity is being given

@grumpygiraffe

Anybody who goes to Buckingham Palace to “pay their respects to the Duke” at any time of day is a complete simpleton anyway, so this isn’t much more ridiculous.

Exactly

Not sure why some Father would have done that. I saw this on TV last night, but had the sound off and couldn't hear what the Father was saying, as to why he was there with his two young children at 1am, then saw that the children were saying something as well. There is no accounting for odd ball people who do odd things.

I was watching last night and thinking the same. He did say twice about taking photos, children has 'facts' about Philip guess told on the way down. Anyhow bit redicilious they should have been in bed would be different if they were actually going to see his body

GreenSlide · 10/04/2021 22:28

Well why not, it's not like they're hurting anybody. They'll look back and remember the time dad took them in the middle of the night to leave flowers for Prince Philip and it'll be one of those family stories.

He went there to get on the news. That's it. There's no love for the Prince involved.

Let’s campaign for the body to be put out front in an open casket. Then drag our kids who ‘learnt about him once’ in a history lesson down there at 1am

I did actually stop by at Buckingham palace yesterday but only because I happened to be at green park. I mainly just liked gawping at the sight of the world’s press assembled. It wasn’t particularly busy really. I certainly didn’t take flowers but I saw plenty who did - there was a one way system to leave them.

I had to go into Windsor today, it was bananas! But no, I wouldn't take a child out in the middle of the night!

I am currently being berated on my Facebook page by an ex school friend for not caring that a 99 year old man who I have never met has died (apart from sympathy to his family). I have not been rude, just irritated by the coverage.

She was shocked at my attitude and said that she had been to lay flowers. I wish I'd thought to point out that she had been asked not to.

Oh and then she said "Diana was murdered. Do some research." I replied that I thought Philip was the main suspect. Smile

My mum woke me up in the middle of the night once because it was snowing - we played in the snow for a bit and had a hot drink to warm up and went back to bed. Probably gave her a bit of a lie in in the morning. I remember that over 30 years later.

Can't get worked up about parents doing unusual stuff with their kids to be honest. He may have been using it as a learning experience for them, he may have just wanted to leave the 4 walls he was in.....

The kids will be mortified by this in a few years. The dad is now ‘famous’, what an attention seeking nobhead. 1am, the kids should be in bed, not being paraded on TV reciting a few lines that dad had clearly told them to say. Fucking ridiculous. 🤣

Hallyup5 · 10/04/2021 23:08

Parent of the year there. You don't need to go to central London to pay your respects at 1am. Absolute attention seeker and poor kids.

Absolutely nuts. It’s nits in general how hoards of people are turning up there through the day in general- it’s not normal times people, there’s a fucking pandemic what the fuck you doing showing up at BP?! It’s crazy!!!!

Go home, sign the online book of condolences and watch it on the news - that would be what HRH Prince Philip would want.

To add - show your respect in a useful way (as above) it’s not an outing of an attraction to go and see...... 🙄 people are bludy strange!

watching the news tonight and there was a guy in the background, chuffed to bits to be on tv, beaming smiling poking his friend and saying ‘look look’. No mask, nothing. Get a life, you sad man!
