Losing your DH after such a long marriage must feel like losing an organ. RIP.
@mrshoho
I know the origins of term. In fact I have Irish family and I know that literally no one in Ireland today would find it offensive. So your point is BS. It’s just an expression and in fact was not unique to Ireland (the pale) even historically. Again, literally no Irish people find it offensive in the least but if you don’t believe me there’s plenty of discussion of it online . You trying to make equivalence between a widely used expression and stuff like “slitty eyes” I find very odd.
I am Irish and I find it offensive. I have many Irish friends and whilst I won't speak for them I can tell you that this expression of words would never be used or heard of. It's a phrase I very rarely hear these days at all and wouldn't really bring it up but I found your post ironic. For someone passionate about not causing offense surely you can accept my point of view when I say it is offensive to me.

@Aprilshowersandhail

I think of Billy Connolly joking about her being in bed with the blanket pulled up saying look Philip I am a stamp. They were a very lucky pair.. Condolences HRH..
I love that joke!
monkehsee · 09/04/2021 15:36

UANBU at all! He really was an incredible man. His work with the armed services, veterans, forces cadets and D of E is remarkable.
RIP Sir, we salute you.

ConnieCaterpillar70 · 09/04/2021 15:42

Not entirely unexpected but very sad news.

Even though it's documented that HM and PP have lived apart for many years, it seemed fitting that Covid brought them together under the same roof once more and they've had this last year at Windsor.

She will feel like a ship without a rudder from now on Sad. Rest in Peace Prince Philip.

I don't tell people I don't agree with .

I tell disgusting people with vile views to shush.

There is nothing to debate.

Lauren15 · 09/04/2021 15:42

Please let’s not make this about M and H. I certainly wouldn’t be flying such a long distance in her condition, never mind the fact there’s a virus out there which can be pretty dangerous to pregnant women.

WhipperSnapperSteve · 09/04/2021 15:43

Very sad, in tears.

Lweji · 09/04/2021 15:49

I'm not a huge fan of the man, but you could have considered a better title, OP. It's not about you, to start with.

babbaloushka · 09/04/2021 15:57

@cariadlet

I was irritated by the radio bulletin which referred to his "gaffes". Either be honest and talk about his offensive, racist comments or - if you feel that it's too soon and would be in poor taste - don't bother saying anything at all.
I thought the same. Half Iranian half Irish though, so I've never held him in very high regard. Sympathies for the Queen though.
wildthingsinthenight · 09/04/2021 16:03

Macncheeseballs why are you on this thread?

Mittens030869 · 09/04/2021 16:05

Because some people just love to come onto threads to have a sneer.

Have you nothing better to do than spout bile on this thread?
SueSaid · 09/04/2021 16:07

Sad news even though he was a ripe old age. At least he was at home and peaceful, not in hospital.

The trolling on Twitter is quite staggering even by Twitter troll's very low standards.

Twitter has become a sewer unfortunately.
VladmirsPoutine · 09/04/2021 16:11

I never understand why people just don't say anything; almost like they can't help themselves. There's so much "it's always sad when someone dies but xyz" - it'd be much better to just not say anything at all Confused

justasking111 · 09/04/2021 16:11

I'm glad the Queen was given a dog again they're a great comfort

SueSaid · 09/04/2021 16:13

Yes. I am far from a handwringing wet drip but why these people post such offensive drivel is beyond me. Usually the #BeKind tweeters too.

yes quite..... their admonitions to #BeKind only seem to apply when it's something or someone they approve of, otherwise it's open season!

I think racism is inexcusable, “a product of his generation” is nonsense. My father was his age and didn’t have a racist bone in his body. Really if someone in the royal family/ public eye can’t learn how to be in public they should be kept out of it.

Nith · 09/04/2021 16:26

@littlepeas

The obituary is up on the BBC already, despite it being breaking news. I think it's a bit distasteful tbh - I know they have them prepared and ready, but they should wait a while to make it less obvious!
Poor BBC, they can't win. If they hadn't put the obituary up, people would be complaining about that.
Nith · 09/04/2021 16:27

I normally have Classic FM on when I'm working. I must admit, I'm rather enjoying the fact that it's not broadcasting adverts and only has quiet, peaceful music on.

Lampzade · 09/04/2021 16:36

@Mittens030869

Harry has lost his Grandad, so this isn’t the time for side swipes at him and Meghan. He was very close to his grandparents, so he will be grieving and Meghan will be supporting him.
Exactly Any poster using this opportunity to berate Harry and Meghan should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves and says more about their own low moral compass Harry will be heartbroken, as contrary to media reports , he is actually close to his grandparents and adores them Don’t forget that Meghan is heavily pregnant, so please be careful about apportioning any blame.

And if someone can’t refrain from being disrespectful a few hours after someones passing, because they ‘can’t learn how to be on a public’ forum, they should be kept off certain threads!!

Have some respect ffs

duvetdreaming · 09/04/2021 16:39

@WhipperSnapperSteve

Very sad, in tears.
Did you know him personally?
Lampzade · 09/04/2021 16:39

@Mrgrinch

All I can hope for is that Meghan stays away from the funeral. She's caused enough hurt already and I hope they're able to mourn in peace. I just don't know what to think about Harry though.

He was a brilliant man and may be rest in peace.

Totally inappropriate comment and just very nasty.
