@Blowingagale

Sorry a really basic question as can’t find an answer online. I know Mitch McConnell/Nancy Pelosi are leaders in Congress and will be in opposition depending upon elections). Is there a post like Shadow President in GOP/Democrats? If not who is the leader of the opposition when President is other party, for example speech/response to an emergency speech by President?
Nobody, really, not directly. The President addresses and deals with both Houses of Congress and their leaders.

And Pence still luffs him.

www.rawstory.com/trump-election-loss/

On Saturday, former President Donald Trump issued a pair of statements doubling down on the "big lie" that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him — and specifically going after former Vice President Mike Pence and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) for not doing more to help him stay in office.

"As our Country is being destroyed, both inside and out, the Presidential Election of 2020 will go down as THE CRIME OF THE CENTURY!" wrote Trump in his first statement, following up with a second that said, "The polls were a joke. I won States in a landslide that I was predicted to lose days before the election," Trump added. "Other states had me purposely so far down that it would force people, even fans, to say "Let's stay home Darling. We love our President, but he can't win." ... It's called SUPPRESSION POLLING and it should be illegal."

"The 2020 Presidential Election was, by far, the greatest Election Fraud in the history," continued Trump. "Had Mike Pence had the courage to send the Electoral College vote back to the states for recertification, and had Mitch McConnell fought for us instead of being the weak and pathetic leader he is, we would right now have a Republican President who would be VETOING the horrific Socialistic Bills that are rapidly going through Congress, including Open Borders, High Taxes, Massive Regulations, and so much else!"

Thanks @borntobequietand @lweji. I’ve just been reading about the Minority leader of the House of Representatives when President is the opposite party.

Lord alive, that rambling from him is gobsmacking.

Thinking of Liz Cheney... she is going through a lot at the moment.

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/may/16/liz-cheney-regrets-vote-donald-trump-republican-party-civil-war-kinzinger-stefanik

On ABC, interviewer Jonathan Karl also asked if Cheney would stay in her party should Trump decide to run for president again – as he has hinted he might – and then win the nomination in 2024.

“I will do everything that I can to make sure he’s not the nominee,” Cheney said. “And, you know everything necessary to make sure that that he never gets anywhere close to the Oval Office again.”

But, Karl repeated, would she remain in the party if Trump were the nominee?

“I will not support him,” said Cheney. “And we’ll do everything I can to make sure that doesn’t happen.”

Brave woman.

Americans can't figure out why Israelis are fighting with Palestinians when Trump and Kushner achieved 'peace' in the Middle East

A twitter thread by Seth Abramson

Essentially, this was a trap set by Trump—or, if you like, a time bomb dropped on Biden's doorstep. Trump's goal was to increase the temperature between Israel and the Palestinians to the point where conflict was inevitable—with the US feeling compelled to take the Israelis side.

pointythings · 17/05/2021 17:15

Yeah, the Biden administration needs to do something about this - either expand the court or bring in federal legislation enshrining the right to safe, legal abortion.

Trump signals he's ready to get back in the game.
thehill.com/homenews/campaign/553963-trump-signals-hes-ready-to-get-back-in-the-game

Trump is expected to hit the road soon resuming his signature rallies, which will put him more in the public eye and create questions for television networks about coverage.

He's also set to hold his first fundraiser for his new super PAC at a time when his control over the GOP was augmented after House Republicans voted to dump Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) from their leadership team over her repeated criticism of the former president's false claims about his loss in the 2020 election.

"I think he feels good. I think he feels vindicated," said one Trump ally, who said the developments make it more likely that Trump will be "aggressively on the playing field" stumping for GOP candidates in the coming months ahead of 2022.

A lesson to never assume that rights gained can never be taken away.

Goodness, do we really need that lesson? Nobody living in Scotland or England or Wales would be justified to think that (even if the rights are enshrined in law), and as for Turkey or Poland , well!
Lweji · 18/05/2021 15:43

@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime

Goodness, do we really need that lesson?

Not "need" as in it's a good thing, but apparently, yes, a good example of rights in supposedly forward countries going back. I was surprised, as she was quite optimistic as she works on gender equality, but the seemed to think that once the steps are taken, we won't go back.
