Sounds lovely jaichange

Is all this stuff about Hunter Biden's computer a complete fiction, along the lines of Hillary's emails?

No idea but it seems that way.

'Donald Trump’s two Scottish golf resorts collected up to $800,000 in subsidies from the British government to protect jobs during COVID-19 but fired “scores” of workers, a top union complained Sunday.

Union officials called the money grab a “scandal” and are calling for a government investigation.

Trump’s SLC Turnberry Ltd received as much as $700,000 in taxpayer funds, while his resort in Balmedie, Aberdeenshire, was paid up to $100,000 in just two months, according to government documents, reported the Scottish Sun. (The amounts are reported in ranges.)'

Uff. I'm torn.

It's good that intelligence services are tracking domestic terrorism. Wouldn't be a good development to be using private companies purely to circumvent laws intended to stop the govt tracking private citizens.

I can see why they're mulling this one.

I can't help remembering that under some administrations (notably the Republicans after 9/11) it was entirely possible to keep data on such things as what library books an individual borrowed, and where they were seen in public, as well as placing wires without needing any warrant or oversight, without anyone seeming to have the will to stop this from being done. Wasn't it called the Patriot Act?

I don't think it has all been repealed, has it?

'Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has warned of "huge consequences" of President Joe Biden's decision to withdraw American troops from Afghanistan.

Mrs Clinton told CNN there was a risk the Taliban - the Islamist group ousted in 2001 by the US-led invasion - could retake control.

The US aims to complete the withdrawal by 11 September.'

'A federal judge has ordered the release of a key Justice Department memo supporting former Attorney William Barr’s conclusion that former President Donald Trump should not be prosecuted for obstruction of justice over episodes investigated by special counsel Robert Mueller.

U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson issued that ruling in a withering opinion that accused Barr of being “disingenuous” when describing Mueller’s findings and found that the Justice Department was not candid with the court about the purpose and role of the 2019 memo prepared by Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel.'

In case you've missed him.

Donald Trump returns to social media with glorified blog.

Tabs on Trump’s new website allow users to like or share the posts on their own Facebook or Twitter accounts, but there is no option for them to reply.

Visitors are also invited to “sign up for alerts”, so that Trump’s musings can be beamed directly into their inboxes. Perhaps unsurprisingly, options to “shop” and “contribute” figure prominently.

And this is why the Republicans' voter ID laws are so scary - this story makes it clear that there are already strong processes in place to catch people who commit voter fraud. But that's not what it is about.

Isn't Zuckerberg making a decision this morning as to whether Trump can go back on FB and announcing it on FB this morning....

Let's hope not.

From the BBC article

Facebook's Oversight Board will announce its decision on whether Mr Trump is to be permanently banned from the platform on 09:00 EST (14:00 BST).
If he is allowed back on to the site, Facebook will have seven days to reactivate his account.
YouTube has said they will reactivate Mr Trump's account when the threat of "real-world violence" reduces.
Twitter, where Mr Trump had 88 million followers, has banned him permanently.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/05/2021 10:34

It's just an example of the "that isn't the right answer; now we need you to go back and get us the answer we want" outlook found when any government is told by an inquiry or committee that it is in the wrong or has made a mistake.

ArrrMeHearties · 05/05/2021 11:22

It is so refreshing to have a "quiet" presidency as opposed to the absolute shitshow and very loud presidency of the Trumpet

Roussette · 05/05/2021 12:51

You are so so right.

When I think of how quickly we got through threads, it just points to peace and tranquility now.

With obviously some pitfalls along the way, only to be expected.
