to worry so much about which month to get married in

May? June? Or July?

In Buckinghamshire. We will have to pick a date soon. We love a venue which is quite outdoorsy but with a marquee.

I'm getting myself so stressed trying to predict the weather. Looking up average rainfall for each month 😂 I know I'm being ridiculous and nothing is guaranteed.

WWYD?

May or July.May is usually stunning but obviously July is further into summer

AnneLovesGilbert · 07/04/2021 10:13

You can’t possibly know so just close your eyes and stick a finger on the calendar.

We got married in June. Woke up to blanket fog and threat of rain. By late morning it was bright. By the time the wedding took place - outside - it was boiling hot and I was sweating in my light dress.

MimiPigeon · 07/04/2021 10:15

You get better anniversary presents if you pick the month that’s furthest away from Valentines, Christmas and your birthday.

nokidshere · 07/04/2021 10:15

I got married on 1st May. I went to the venue in wellies and raincoat, it hammmered down for most of the day. The evening was lovely though.

Mrsjayy · 07/04/2021 10:16

I would just pick.if it rains it rains.May is my favourite month so if it was me I'd choose May.

MiddleClassProblem · 07/04/2021 10:17

Plan for the worst but hope for the best.

Flappityflippers1 · 07/04/2021 10:19

We chose October and it was 21 degrees and roasting hot!

Just pick a month and have some fun planning some spectacular rain photos with your photographer for “just in case it rains!” (We had matching wellies and umberella’s!) it never rained and I was slightly disappointed in the end! Google raining wedding photos, they’re beautiful!

We were an indoor venue though

Mrsjayy · 07/04/2021 10:21

We got Married on a. Good Friday (a hundred years ago) and the weather was lovely.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 07/04/2021 10:23

Don't rely on the weather.

We got married in September and it was bloody freezing Grin

Crunchymum · 07/04/2021 10:23

My birthday is Mid June, as an adult I'd say I have had rain on at least half my birthday's (I know as I plan something outdoors most years and often have to change at the last minute so there is shelter)

ShyTown · 07/04/2021 10:24

You can’t predict the weather! I went to a wedding in the south of France in August a few years ago, which you think would be a shoe in for sunshine and there was a full on thunder storm, torrential rain, everything was ruined because there was no indoor back up. Still had a remarkably good time though thanks to the open bar! However, I would personally pick May or June over July because I’d be worried about a reduced turn out if people have summer holidays booked.

Laytwir024 · 07/04/2021 10:24

June always rains!!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 07/04/2021 10:25

You can’t predict the weather so just pick a month.

I got married at a completely different time of year - end of February. My actual wedding day was dry but cold. I’ve been sat in Hyde Park in London in just a light weight jumper and I was still too warm on one anniversary. We also had Beast from the East on one of our anniversaries. Plan for the worst case scenario and hope for the best.

KoalaOok · 07/04/2021 10:25

Our photographer said the blazing hot summer days are harder to get flattering photos so April/May was better than June/July.

Also it depends on your dress, you don't want to risk melting!

ForeverAintEnough12 · 07/04/2021 10:25

I got married in November. A beautiful crisp sunny day. Friend got married in July. Lashed rain the entire day and had to go to a university nearby so they could shelter for some photos. Pick the date you like most.

SallySycamore · 07/04/2021 10:25

It isn't one of your options, but the hottest weddings I've been to have actually been in the first week of September. The evenings are a bit darker though.

I think any would be lovely. Easter Smile May might have the edge for me, because I love May Day and the Spring. And if you pick a bank holiday, people might like it not taking up the whole weekend with travel.

SallySycamore · 07/04/2021 10:28

Oh, and again depending on where you're marrying, in May you'd probably have apple blossom out which would be lovely for photographs.

DanielSpaniel · 07/04/2021 10:28

I got married mid May and it rained in the morning and brightened up for the evening. It’s rained nearly every year on our anniversary, but the last weekend in May is usually much warmer.

Tinydinosaur · 07/04/2021 10:30

July. Based purely on the fact we got married at the start of August and the weather was absolutely perfect all day and night.

PembrokeshireDreaming · 07/04/2021 10:32

Honestly op you need to chill a bit.........it doesn't bode well if you are this stressed about the weather already! Pick a venue that you like and that will work for you regardless of the weather ...........that is the one element of the day that you have absolutely no control over!!!

I got married at the end of August (bank holiday weekend).........that year it rained on every Saturday in July and August, we were expecting rain but the sun shone for us, we were very lucky. We had a lot of golf umbrellas on standby and were planning for rain.

Tinydinosaur · 07/04/2021 10:32

You don't want it to be too hot with people getting sunburn, people get grumpy when they're too hot and sweaty and their shoes are rubbing and their shirt sticking to them.

bloodyhell19 · 07/04/2021 10:32

I got married in late autumn and weather was beautiful! We chose venue first & looked at their available dates because we fell in love with the place & it suited all our needs. Also because planning for weather we wanted somewhere we would be happy doing photos indoors or outdoors depending on weather!

jessstan2 · 07/04/2021 10:34

July.

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 07/04/2021 10:34

Bro got married July, lovely day then it rained.
Sis got married July, pissed it down all day.

I got married October. Woke up to a frost in morning that beautiful sunshine. Rained in the evening.

Really can't predict it unless you do what my friend did and go to Cyprus Grin

TeenMinusTests · 07/04/2021 10:35

I'd consider some other info.

e.g.

Do you have friends / family with teenagers? If so May/early June isn't great due to prepping for exams (in school or national).

Do you have friends / family with school age kids who might find it pain if you pick a weekend attached to holidays / half term as they'll want to go away then?
