i have 2 reclining leather suites that cost me a bloody fortune and my brats darling little daughters use it as a flippin trampoline

all day

everyday

doing bloody handstands on it and jumping from one to the other

god i have shouted (ok screamed ) about 100 times today to "stop it"

i am getting to the point where i am going to throw them out the window!!!!

ok rant over

YANBU.

And hide the biros

hayCHingleBells · 09/11/2007 21:14

YANBU

Its the sticky fingers too
And drink spills

My dds have their own sofa. If i didnt this option id buy em some bean bags or something and ban the sofa action, full stop!

looneytune · 09/11/2007 21:14

Was going to say YABU from the title but no, YANBU!!!

kerrykatona · 09/11/2007 21:15

to late squonk we have the biro marks

and a rip in the leather (luckily hidden down the side of the couch) where dd2 knocked a photo of the wall then jumped on it and the glass shattered and went through the leather.

dh ran for dd i ran to check the damage on the couch

I think YABU. Why do people have sofas their kids can't use? Unless it's in a different, special room and the kids have another one to play in... I think jumping on sofas is one of the great joys of childhood.

mindalina · 09/11/2007 21:19

Good lord no YANBU, my little brothers were banned from the sofa for years because they broke them so badly, leaping about playing Power Rangers.

hana · 09/11/2007 21:20

so teach them not to jump on the sofa.....it's hard to be precious about your house things when kids live there too

bookofthedeadmum · 09/11/2007 21:20

I thought settees were meant to be sat on?

My dd sat/slept on my settee since she was a newborn. I'd no more ban her from the settee than I'd sit on the floor myself .

Jumping on the settee is another thing though.

LoveMyGirls · 09/11/2007 21:23

let your kids sit on it dont let them jump on it.

kerrykatona · 09/11/2007 21:23

i have no problem at all with them sitting on the sofa

kerrykatona · 09/11/2007 21:24

sorry my title may have confused people, my daughters are now banned from going in a five metre radius of my couch, if they do i will throw the remote at them, this is because they find it impossible to sit, they only bounce

looneytune · 09/11/2007 21:24

I agree about not getting nice furniture with young kids or you're asking for trouble and if it was about accidents with sticky fingers etc I'd say she WBU however this is about jumping on the furniture - jeez, I'd never be allowed to do that as a kid and yes, they should listen and stop - children do need to know what is and isn't acceptable!!!

bookofthedeadmum · 09/11/2007 21:26

Even the cat sits on my (leather) settee .

bubblerock · 09/11/2007 21:27

Isn't this what beanbags are for? Ban them from the sofa and treat them to a beanbag each for christmas

bookofthedeadmum · 09/11/2007 21:30

Or get a retro 70s plastic armchair for them. If they bounced on them, they'd get a shock .

kerrykatona · 09/11/2007 21:30

dont give me ideas like that

OP posts:
maximummummy · 09/11/2007 21:31

no YANBU
i have a seperate sitting room with the nice posh sofas in - AND NO F*%KING KIDS ALLOWED

I am of course extremely POSH

pollywollybauble · 09/11/2007 21:32

seats are for sitting on!trampolines are for bouncing on...in this house anyway...

don't buy anything to bribe them not to do it just have a cordon round it (or wire it up to give them a small electric shock ) until they can use it properly

snowleopard · 09/11/2007 21:34

Tell you what, sell the kids and buy a matching pouffe.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 09/11/2007 21:35

YABU

kerrykatona · 09/11/2007 21:36

we stayed with VERY posh family over the summer, they also had a seperate living room where no children were allowed but they gave in one night to let the children watch the big tv, cue dd2 jumping on there new couch (which possibly cost more than my car) shouting im a pian in the arse

oh the shame

My old sofa fell to bits and my 2 Ds (young teens at the time) denied all knowledge.

A couple of years later, I found a home made video recording that they hade made of a 'wrestling match' on which they power drove themselves and friend repeatedly into my sofa!!

I have a copy of this video with which I plan to blackmail them when they get married.

It's a choice - kids or sofa.....

kerrykatona · 09/11/2007 21:57

thats a tough choice lsm

love the story about your dd's though

little sods darlings
