£500 one off payment tax credits.

Apologies for not posting in the right area but thought it may reach a lot of people!

Dp got a text today to say that one off payments of £500 are being paid by 23rd April. I didn’t think we would be eligible. Is it just a generic text sent to everyone or just those entitled? I thought it was only for those on working tax credits, we only get child tax credits I believe.

To clarify. Dp works and has worked all the way through the pandemic and earns around £30,000 a year. I am currently a stay at home mum to out two children who both have additional needs. The bulk of our child tax credits are based on my children receiving disability living allowance rather than dp’s earnings. We do get some based on his earnings though.

I am really clueless 😂 I thought tax credits were eventually being changed over to universal credit too. We still get ‘tax credits’ and not universal credit.

Advice for a confused mum.

We own our own home and don’t get any other benefits apart from the DLA my children get and the tax credits (obviously child benefit too). £500 would be very appreciated!

Tia.

I changed my number only recently and they haven't sent me messages in over a year I changed my setting to receive on line letters too so dont know how they will contact me now unless a letter is sent or I do get one online.
Seems very odd and ambiguous to me xx

Skymum82 · 08/04/2021 10:53

@Alone97 the number is 60886 check your messages. I'm online so they send me a text every time I login. I can't see you not getting its prob more a text issue. I have not received a letter and don't think anyone has.

Skymum82 · 08/04/2021 10:55

@Flumpy110313 we prob just need to wait to see if it's paid in. I got a text and still don't feel we will get it. It's more if it's in my account I will be happy lol.
The text didn't say we would get it either it really was written well 🤦🏼‍♀️😂.

sadonfriday · 08/04/2021 11:03

You could always try the online chat and ask an advisor?

Alone97 · 08/04/2021 11:47

I'm on government gateway and get sent the codes out if I go on there.
But just looked on there on the tax credits bit and they have the wrong numbers on there so maybe they didn't have the right ones on the system.

Bagelsandbrie · 08/04/2021 11:50

We get both and haven’t had a text but they definitely have my number so who knows! Dh works full time, I’m a disabled sahm and we have two children, one has high rate dla.

Bagelsandbrie · 08/04/2021 11:51

They did say it wouldn’t show online. (I rang to ask about it and they said if we’re entitled we will get it ... annoyingly they couldn’t say if we were entitled! Just said it wouldn’t show online). All very confusing!

Alone97 · 08/04/2021 13:57

I guess we will just have to wait and see, I wonder when they will be issuing these payments?

A pp said on Twitter after the 10th. People had up until today to change bank details.
RigaBalsam · 08/04/2021 16:33

A poster on another thread said it's showing on the app.

GravityFalls · 08/04/2021 16:40

Well, this is showing on the app which still isn’t massively helpful...

£500 one off payment tax credits.

Did it show before gravity?
Norwaydidnthappen · 08/04/2021 16:44

Think you only receive the text if you’re eligible from what I’ve read online and it will be paid ‘by the 23rd April’. I heard they’re starting to pay out from the 12th onwards so between 12-23 April.

GravityFalls · 08/04/2021 16:47

No, it’s only come on this afternoon.

sadonfriday · 08/04/2021 17:04

Mines appeared this afternoon too

Ifonly86 · 08/04/2021 18:02

Anyone who gets the text will get the payment

Alone97 · 08/04/2021 19:11

I've just looked at last year's award and it says working tax credit blah blah amount, and then taken of amount which then reduces it to 0.
Does that still mean we are entitled?

I maybe wrong but if you had an entitlement on 2nd March off any payment wtc or ctc you will get it. That's the impression I get.

Did you get the text?

Alone97 · 08/04/2021 21:33

No I didn't get the text, but they had the wrong phone numbers as we changed them a while back and never got round to changing them.
On a good note going on the government gateway site I saw the savings account the gov are doing which seems pretty good, I've signed up for it.

Oh not seen that what is that!
RigaBalsam · 08/04/2021 21:37

Mea? Not ! Dam sausage fingers

Alone97 · 08/04/2021 21:58

Its a savings account which means after 2 and 4 years the gov will pay money into it depending on how much you save.
You can put between 1 and 50 pounds in there a month.

StrawberriCream · 08/04/2021 22:07

I received a extra payment that doesn't show on the manage tax credits but it was £400.04 qso I guess it's an allowance up to £500 or this is something different again??? Maybe I will get a letter in a month to tell me....

AlohaMolly · 08/04/2021 22:28

The help to save account is really good, I’ve had mine 2 years so far and didn’t manage to pay £50 in every month, but got £260 back as the bonus in February. The way it works is it’s a savings account for four years. You can put a maximum of £50 in a month. At the end of two years you get 50% back so if you saved £500 you get £250. The bonus starts again at £0 and whatever you manage to save from years 2-4 you get 50% again, so if you save another £500, you’ll get £250, plus the full £1k back when they close your account at the end of the four years. So you’ve saved £1k plus got £500!

Skatastic · 08/04/2021 22:38

Oh I got this text on 1st April and assumed it was one of those hoax ones! Would be very very very very nice if we got this as we are on our arse thanks to furlough.
