Are Easter Gifts to teachers a thing?

Just that really. Do you give gifts at the end of the Spring term? I give at the end of Autumn and Summer terms, but is it the done thing at Easter?

This is in regards to KS1 but i would also be interested in regards to EYFS.

I have never seen anybody give a teacher an Easter gift.

Happycat1212 · 31/03/2021 00:43

Just stop, stop making up new things people, first presents for your kids now Easter presents for teachers 😒

wheresmycrown · 31/03/2021 00:47

No. They are not.

PascalHey · 31/03/2021 00:49

I'm curious as some parents give gifts at Christmas and the end of the summer term, so why not at Easter? Giving at then end of 2 out of 3 terms.

As a teacher, no. Never had an Easter gift or card at school.

IdblowJonSnow · 31/03/2021 01:22

No!
But I think Easter this year might be slightly more gift giving due to the timing of lockdown easing and many people keen to get out there and celebrate.

Eminybob · 31/03/2021 04:12

No, the end of autumn term is a Christmas present, and the end of summer term is a leaving/thank you present.
Giving Easter gifts (apart from eggs to the kids) isn’t a thing for most people.

habibihabibi · 31/03/2021 04:43

I have in the past because I got suckered into excessive gifting by the American class mom at our international school . They gave Valentines gifts , Teachers day gifts, Easter eggs , Thanks giving crap , flowers on teachers birthday , End of year ,Christmas and even Halloween.
Each family gave a one off hefty cash contribution at the beginning of the year. So glad we have left now.

spacegirl86 · 31/03/2021 04:59

I'm a teacher, no. Most I've ever got are homemade cards on a very odd occasion which are cute. Don't expect anything at all.

Xiaoxiong · 31/03/2021 05:02

DH got some unexpectedly this year, but the parents said it was a thank-you for remote learning which was bloody lovely of them. So not an Easter gift as such and (hopefully) will never happen again!!

cariadlet · 31/03/2021 05:06

I've had a few Easter eggs but I've been teaching for almost 30 years and the total number of eggs I've been given is probably in single figures. It's definitely the exception rather than the rule.

ScotsinOz · 31/03/2021 06:50

My children always buy their teacher a Lindt Chocolate Bunny at Easter. It’s very normal in our school and the teacher receives enough chocolate to last until next Easter.
Our school year finishes in November and we purchase a gift for the children’s teachers as well as contribute to a class gift as a thank-you for the year/Christmas present.

I suppose it’s because it’s traditional to give gifts at Christmas (end of autumn term), and the end of the summer term is the end of the school year and it’s a “thank you for teaching my kid and keeping them alive in school hours” gift. I adore the staff at my son’s school, they can’t do enough for him but am I going to be getting them Easter gifts on top of everything else? Am I fuck.
Groovee · 31/03/2021 07:08

We often get a box of biscuits for the staff room from some parents. One mum used to do home baking for our last day which was nice. But it's not expected at Easter.

KatherineOfGaunt · 31/03/2021 07:10

Teaching over a decade. I can't remember ever having received an Easter gift. Cards, maybe, from a few but no gifts.

I can think of nothing worse than receive 30 chocolate bunnies right now. I'm trying to lose weight so they would immediately go in the staffroom for others to take home. This is why presents are so unnecessary. A card with a note saying thank you is more than enough.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 31/03/2021 07:33

No, we do Christmas and end of summer term. May very occasionally have done daffodils when younger at some point in spring as the children asked too.

HamFisted · 31/03/2021 07:35

Teacher here. No, it's not a thing generally, though I have received an egg or two over the years.

I think possibly because Christmas is increasingly secular, whereas Easter is still fairly religious.

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 31/03/2021 08:06

It’s odd you refer to giving gifts for Christmas as end of Autumn and end of school year as end of Summer. It’s obvious why those two terms are the gift giving terms. Most people don’t give gifts at Easter even to their kids other than an Easter egg despite what Instagram might show.

Can you imagine the social media BS of Easter present giving became a thing? We don’t need a new thing for parents to competitively buy for.

justjuggling · 31/03/2021 08:57

When my DC were at primary school they used to take a bunch of daffodils for teachers at the end of the Easter term.

Spied · 31/03/2021 09:03

No, I've never seen any of the dc at my DC's school arrive with Easter gifts.
Christmas and Summer last day- yes.

wonkylegs · 31/03/2021 09:26

There is a mum at our school who did Easter gifts for all her kids teachers and then personalised packs for each child in their classes. She has 5 kids so she looked like Santa making a delivery last Friday.
Each to their own, I don't do it but the kids do homemade cards at Christmas and thank yous at the end of the year which I feel gives the right message. When DS1 left his primary we bought a whole load of books for the school library as a present for the school which went down well as they never have enough.

purpleclaire · 31/03/2021 09:54

My DD (8) came home from school feeling upset last Friday, for not buying her teacher a birthday present! She only felt like that because she saw other children taking in gifts. A few weeks before, there was the usual nonsense on the class Whatsapp group from some Mums trying to outdo one another, saying they would buy the teacher a bottle of gin, flowers etc. I'm a teacher myself, and think birthday and Easter gifts are completely unnecessary... when does it stop!?

Mummypigisalwaysright · 31/03/2021 11:40

Usually just a Christmas gift and an end of year gift present giver, but my youngest son has behavioural issues (possible autism, awaiting diagnosis) and his teachers, senco and family support officer have been so completely fantastic with us and him that I do give them a little present at the end of each half term. They bloody deserve it!

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 31/03/2021 11:43

No not the case.

Though I wonder if there might be more at secondary level given that teacher assessment is taking place. Misplaced and scurrilous of any parent to think they can influence a teacher by such gifts, but I would not put it past some parents.
