Are Easter Gifts to teachers a thing?

Just that really. Do you give gifts at the end of the Spring term? I give at the end of Autumn and Summer terms, but is it the done thing at Easter?

Nope.
Ks1/EYFS teacher and Easter gifts are definitely not a thing.
I think it may depend on the demographic of the school though. When I worked in schools in more deprived areas I tended to get one or two gifts at the end of the school year. Since moving schools to a more affluent area I was a bit gobsmacked when nearly every child arrived on the last day before Xmas with a gift. It was very unexpected. Still can't beat a handmade card or picture though!

BIoodyStupidJohnson · 31/03/2021 12:03

I think what is most definitely a 'thing' is that the last year has been eyeball-buggeringly shit for most retailers, and they're inventing occasions like mad to try and claw back some turnover.

Hesma · 31/03/2021 12:04

Christmas and end of year but not Easter

BloodyHellAudrey · 31/03/2021 12:10

I've got the teacher and TAs a little box of chocolate eggs. I get a box of chocolates/biscuits for in the office and staffroom at different times of the term too. I appreciate that they go above and beyond.

Hoppythehippo · 31/03/2021 12:12

No. Presents at Christmas and end of year are also fairly rare here. I take in something edible (and in current circumstances individually wrapped) for the staff room a couple of random times over the year instead - between multiple job sharing teachers, TAs etc buying individual presents would get ridiculous.

spongebunnyfatpants · 31/03/2021 17:47

I'm a teacher and no it's not a thing. Chocolate is appreciated at any time of the year! Wink

Notanotherhun · 31/03/2021 17:49

No. Please no gift cards either, that require online faffing and invariably aren't accepted anywhere. Sad

DelphiniumBlue · 31/03/2021 17:49

Not normally, but this year we've had a few. And some of the teachers bought little eggs for each child in their class.

modgepodge · 31/03/2021 18:22

I’ve been teaching 10 years and can’t recall ever getting Easter gifts before. But yesterday one child in my own class and three from the other class I teach presented me with something - Lindt bunny, a Lindt egg and a big Cadbury egg, so not £1 ones either! I was very surprised. Another class had clubbed together to buy all their teachers (prep school so about 5!) a big egg with lots of little bits too and I saw another teacher with a lovely bunch of flowers from her class. So it does seem to be becoming a thing?! Very kind but unnecessary.

Itsanothernamechange · 31/03/2021 18:33

I got an Easter egg from one of mine. First time ever. I was very surprised. It's definitely not a thing but was a very much appreciated. My kids know I have a very sweet tooth.

katy1213 · 31/03/2021 18:35

Surely if you buy every teacher a gift for every Monday morning and Friday afternoon that is enough to ensure preferential casting in every school play/Nativity?

Leeds2 · 31/03/2021 18:42

My DD is now 23, and when she was in primary school several of her classmates would take in chocolates, or a bunch of daffs, for the teacher. I never did, but it certainly wasn't unusual.

lachy · 31/03/2021 18:52

No, and as I have chosen to give a small gift at Christmas and will do the same at the end of the year I'm not going to give a gift at Easter.

Otherwise we'll all end up giving teachers a present every 12 weeks!

I have ocassionally given the teacher a bar of Chocolate on a Friday

Dressinggownchic · 31/03/2021 21:55

DD has a handmade card and a small Lindt chick (£1.50) to give to her teacher tomorrow. It’s been a tough year and she’s fresh out of uni, not something we usually do.

Quaagars · 31/03/2021 22:12

It's only a "thing" if you want it to be, just like Christmas or end of term.
Never seen the point of giving presents to teachers, they must get overwhelmed with stuff and can't be doing with all the competitiveness it brings out in some of the parents!

LolaSmiles · 31/03/2021 22:14

It's not something I've heard about. The end of autumn gifts are because as a nation we largely celebrate Christmas, and the summer gifts are usually end of year thank yous. It's the occasion rather than the fact that the term ends that prompts the giving

OwlinaTree · 31/03/2021 22:21

Mine have took Easter eggs in for their teachers but it's been such a difficult term, we thought they deserved a treat! I'm a teacher and can't really remember having been given eggs by the children. I usually get them one each though, I'm a softy!

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 31/03/2021 22:25

@PascalHey

I'm curious as some parents give gifts at Christmas and the end of the summer term, so why not at Easter? Giving at then end of 2 out of 3 terms.
Well I would imagine at Christmas they do it because that's what people do at Christmas, and at the end of summer it's because the children will be getting a new teacher at the beginning of the new school year so they won't be in the teachers ass anymore Hmm
FlattestWhite · 31/03/2021 22:36

I've had occasional chocolate treats from pupils at Easter, as well as coffee cards, which have been greatly appreciated but not at all expected.

Elsielouise13 · 31/03/2021 22:39

My son’s school’s ‘friends’ society collects termly money with menaces. It’s used for gifts to teachers inc Easter gifts.

Usually chocolates at Easter, vouchers in the summer and alcohol at Christmas...

Cakeonthefloor · 31/03/2021 22:42

I normally get a couple of bunches of flowers or an Easter egg. Today I was given 2 Easter eggs and a bunch of flowers. Some years nothing.

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 31/03/2021 22:47

I've never done this but it's seemingly totally a thing at dds school. Loads of pressies being given at pick up today. (Yr1)
Since I've taught my children more this term than their teachers (no live lessons, a couple of assemblies/tutor groups) I'm 100% not joining in with this fad!!

Littlepaws18 · 31/03/2021 22:48

I wish they were!!!! 🍫🍫🍫

Wallabyone · 31/03/2021 22:49

I love my children's teachers, and I send in stuff often. I sent a bag full of treats for the staff room when they returned after lockdown, and daffodils for the teachers, and I got them a small egg each this week. I sent several packs of hot cross buns to my youngest's nursery and got his key person a small plant. I'm a teacher myself and I really appreciate all the work they have done over this last (difficult) year.

mongoosebaby · 31/03/2021 23:42

When I taught in a Catholic school I got a lot of Easter cards, which were lovely, and sometimes homemade baked goods (hot cross buns, simnel cake- that sort of thing). Other than that I've occasionally got a small chocolate egg/bunny, but not like I would get at Christmas/end of year!
