Razzmatazz by Pulp.

It’s bloody catch though.

What’s worse?

'Good luck, good luck, good luck in your new bed' by basement jaxx is my fave fuck you record

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 29/03/2021 23:54

Goodbye Earl by The Dixie Chicks is probably the ultimate revenge. Shock

Miraloma · 30/03/2021 00:10

@MargotLovedTom1

"Take your year in Provence and shove it up your arse."

Jarvis Cocker is a national treasure Grin.

I bought a book of Pulp lyrics, I absolutely adore them
ViolaValentina · 30/03/2021 14:08

If you're looking for vitriol with a side helping of misogyny then 'So Much Better' by Eminem must be a contender.

"I hope you hear this song and go into a cardiac arrest
My life would be so much better if you just...
My life will be so much better
If you just dropped dead
I was laying in bed last night thinking
And this thought just popped in my head
And I thought wouldn't shit just be a lot easier
If you dropped dead
I would feel so much better"

Back Off Bitch by Guns n' Roses:

"Back off, back off bitch
Down in the gutter dyin' in the ditch
You better back off, back off bitch
Face of an angel with the love of a witch
Back off, back off bitch
It's such a pity that you're such a bitch"

DGRossetti · 30/03/2021 14:16

Maybe not vitriolic, but I did like Liz Phair, "Divorce Song"

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 30/03/2021 14:25

You Oughta Know is an amazing song though! I wouldn’t call it vitriolic, I’d call it anguished.

What about “You can go and love yourself”? I forget who it’s by though.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 30/03/2021 14:29

I Wanna Be Around — Tony Bennett

"I mean, I wanna be around to see how he does it
When he breaks your heart to bits
Let's see if the puzzle fits so fine
And that's when I'll discover that revenge is sweet
As I sit there applaudin' from a front-row seat
When somebody breaks your heart
Like you, like you broke mine"

It sounds like 'normal' lounge jazz though, until you listen to the lyrics!

Justin Bieber I think?
CuriousaboutSamphire · 30/03/2021 14:33

@mbosnz

'Why'd ya do it' by Marianne Faithful.
I'm late to this thread but this!!! Utter vitriol with a good side of self hatred thrown in!
GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 30/03/2021 14:38

AryaStarkWolf oh thanks! Only ever heard it on the radio but always think it comes across as nasty and snide.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 30/03/2021 14:39

Misogynistic is what I think.

Moonmelodies · 30/03/2021 15:02

"If You Don't Want To Fuck Me Baby, Baby Fuck Off" by Wayne County & The Electric Chairs must be a contender.

WiddlinDiddlin · 30/03/2021 16:21

Oooh...

You Talk Too Much by Sultans of Ping..

Tim Minchin's Song for Phil Doust is also excellent if somewhat specific to one person..

Marilyn Manson - User Friendly was a big favourite for a long time.

Lincslady53 · 30/03/2021 16:28

Positively 4th Street hits the spot with me.

I wish that for just one time you could stand inside my shoes
And just for that one moment I could be you
Yes, I wish that for just one time you could stand inside my shoes
You'd know what a drag it is to see you

kierenthecommunity · 30/03/2021 16:35

I was going to vote for Go Your Own Way too. While the lyrics are possibly only reasonably scathing, it takes a special kind of arsehole to be bitching in song about someone you’re actually sharing a stage with

I love Lindsey Buckingham as a musician but he presents as someone who had an ego the size of Mars

Thomasina79 · 30/03/2021 16:42

Going back a bit, but positively 4th street by Bob Dylan is pretty vitriolic (but still a great song though).

SisterAgatha · 30/03/2021 16:50

Diamonds and Rust. Joan Baez

Stone roses resurrection and how do you sleep.

Radiohead just

Teana89 · 30/03/2021 18:35

Gaslighter by The Chicks

frazzledasarock · 31/03/2021 09:29

Jazmine Sullivan - Bust Your Windows

Always makes me laugh, she didn't take the higher ground, but I still think it's very funny (and I bet a lot of us wish we had done what she did too)

emmylousings · 31/03/2021 09:46

I came to say You Oughta Know by A Morisette, but as it's been done, I submit 'Dont come around here no More', maybe determined, rather than vitriolic. Love it. 'You Little Thief' deserves the mentions too.

emmylousings · 31/03/2021 09:50

'Don't come around here no more', is by Tom Petty btw, sorry just waking up..

HerculePoirotsGreyCells · 31/03/2021 11:21

Not vitriolic but Cheater, Cheater by Joey + Rory is fun!

EssexLioness · 31/03/2021 11:46

@Calmate agree about ‘Wind beneath my Wings’. Some friend! It all sounds so catty and condescending. Always made me cringe!

Like a lot of you, my first thought was ‘You Oughta Know’
