One that may sound out of left field but if you listen to it is rather harsh is Gordon Lightfoot’s If You Could Read My Mind:

It’s self-aware in that he knows he’s caused a lot of the hurt and heartache in the relationship but just can’t resist that cruelty. It has such a gentle sound for such meanness.
