To ask Strike to just get it together with Robin FFS

This is a niche AIBU but I'm fit to burst.

Just get it on FFS.

Oh yes the two of them are maddening

I'd recommend:

LulaIsAKitten for fluff/smut
HobbesHalftail for comedy/smut
RobinLeStrange for drama/casefic/smut

Other good ones are Flanker, BlueRobin, Lemon Verbena (out there smut but very impressive), pools of venetian blue and Chilly Hollow.

@BritPopBabe

I'm with Judas. Last part of the seventh and final book. I do think there might be a fumble before then which they both agree to forget ever happened.
I think this also...and that it may happen between Troubled Blood and book 6 so we see them dealing with the fallout...
MrsWooster · 29/03/2021 11:58

@PyjamaFan

I agree, I think they already love each other although possibly they don't realise it yet.

I hope they get together in the last book.

I agree with this -there’s such a lot about how both of them have a fucked up idea of what ‘being in love’ is about and can’t see what’s right in front of their noses. Robin’s ahead in her thinking-she’s starting to see what ISN’T love (looking at you, Robin’n’Matthew) but not what is. Cormoran is some way behind. One of my favourite bit is the description of him shying away “like a startled bison” if she were to be affectionate towards him. Made me guffaw.
MintyCedric · 29/03/2021 12:22

@pyjamafan

One of my favourite quotes is from Career of Eveil when Robin is describing her childhood horse, Angus as "a shaggy, strong and stubborn creature...on whom Robin had doted, his naughtiness notwithstanding"

Remind you of anyone Grin?

Shamoo · 29/03/2021 12:27

@MintyCedric totally with you on the fanfic suggestions. I was coming on to say it!

I was reflecting recently on the fact that strike screams red flags all over the place, and Robin is such a nice person, that she would be best off out of it. But I am desperate for them to get together. What does that say about me?! And JKR?! 😂

Shamoo · 29/03/2021 12:27

If Robin did an AIBU about Strike she would be told to run a mile!

the80sweregreat · 29/03/2021 12:35

I don't get his attraction to women really.
Smokes too much, drinks too much, eats too much, is fairly gruff and been known to use women too in the past.
Yes, he is safe to be around , not a letch and does respect Robin as a friend and work colleague, but his actual sex appeal is baffling to me ( even if he is a better person than Matthew is)
I hope they stay best friends forever though.
I hope they don't become a couple. I don't think he is the man for her deep down despite the chemistry.

Kit19 · 29/03/2021 12:46

I think its because Tom Burke as TV strike is considerably more attractive than book strike that I buy into it more

Im genuinely baffled as to how book Strike gets laid so much. He must smell and taste like an ashtray!

Isn't he meant to be a 10/10 demon in bed, though?

That's an awful lot of brownie points.

Kit19 · 29/03/2021 12:57

He is but you'd have to want to get to the bed first and smelling and tasting like an ashtray would never happen for me

however if he looked like Tom Burke i may be prepared to reconsider :D

the80sweregreat · 29/03/2021 13:01

He clearly fancies her and is a bit put out when other men do as well! I think he is in love with the idea of a normal woman , but I think he would soon grow a bit bored by the domestics of it all.
He is so damaged by Charlotte, his late mum , his half sister. Women have mostly let him down ( even aunt Jean who let him go off with his mum even though they all knew she wasn't good for him ) they have skewed his outlook on how relationships should work. Robin is damaged too , but been able to deal with it better I think and will move on from Matthew as she did over her attack. She is much more level headed than he is. She is stronger than he is oddly enough , emotionally anyway.

This 100%! The man has serious commitment issues, an alcohol problem, smokes, probably has PTSD that he didn’t want to treat, keeps speaking to his ex... lives in a dump, smells bad and has pubes on his head.

Still would like to see them get together though, even if just for a quick fumble and forget it ever happened like a PP said Grin

the80sweregreat · 29/03/2021 13:09

Robin feels safe around him. He wouldn't treat her like Matthew did or the ex colleague in book six or the bastard that attacked her in the Uni halls.
She never feels under attack from him or as just the 'little woman. ' It's a feather in his cap, but he is still one to avoid if your after a steady relationship! He just couldn't be this way.
I hope he moves out of the flat above the office and stops smoking and drinking and gets some counselling! He needs a bit of a shake up really. Too much baggage.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 29/03/2021 13:18

@summeriscomingsoon

Who wants to read about a couple working together and arguing about who did the breakfast dishes that morning?

Me!

I want to read a cracking good detective story interspersed with them grabbing each other for fantastic sex.

I need to lie down.

Me too!

I actually think “how they manage to make a relationship work and run the business” would be interesting and the fantastic sex will also improve things massively!

Mumoftwoinprimary · 29/03/2021 13:19

Thinking about it I think the two of them breaking up because they want different things but having both finally managing to have a decent relationship would be a good ending.

Weepingwillows12 · 29/03/2021 13:19

I think the last book ended close to them getting together so something has to stop that next book (to draw out the saga)... not sure what. Would have said Charlotte before the 5th book but not now.

Maybe Strike accidentally gets someone pregnant on a one night stand.

I want them together too but not yet. I think they would need to split up the business partnership (maybe Robin gets a Met police job) then Strike realises how much he misses her, they work a joint case and get together.....

I think I may be over invested.......

the80sweregreat · 29/03/2021 13:33

I hope that nothing much happens from now on. Just cool stories of them both solving crimes and being reasonably happy with life. A strong business woman who is bucking the trend of having a husband and children , bit of fame when it goes right, hopefully a bit more money , her own place and time to shake off the nasty things that have happened to her. Time to tell her family that she isn't going to be who they want her to be .
It's time women had a role model who doesnt needs a man around to make them complete!
An equal. I think Strike would like this too.
( wishes I had been more like this in the past !)
Not battered down by men anymore!

Kit19 · 29/03/2021 13:36

Totally on board for that. It would be so refreshing for just once it not to end in marriage and babies but a woman saying "not for me" and it being seen as a positive choice

(not opposed to them having epic sex first though...)

the80sweregreat · 29/03/2021 13:42

I hope that her smug sister in law gets drunk in book seven and tell her how bored she is being a mum and a wife and how much she is jealous of her fame and her job and being financially independent.
I hope Matthew tries to crawl back into her good books ( because he realizes that Sarah was a huge mistake) and she tells them both to just fuck off and get on with it?
. That would make me smile ( but she is just too nice to do this!)

MintyCedric · 29/03/2021 14:15

Maybe Strike accidentally gets someone pregnant on a one night stand.

Maybe Strike accidentally gets Robin pregnant after the Ritz birthday shenanigans...

I'd like to think after Charlotte's stunt he'd be very, very careful to ensure there's no room for ambiguous accidental pregnancies in future.

Bustup · 29/03/2021 14:23

YANBU

And I love this thread 😁

DarceyDashwood · 29/03/2021 14:27

I haven’t read the books but in the terms of the TV series YADNBU! They luuuuurve each other!

the80sweregreat · 29/03/2021 14:37

We don't need a Robin pregnancy!
Please no.

MintyCedric · 29/03/2021 15:26

@the80sweregreat

We don't need a Robin pregnancy! Please no.
Totally agree but there was so much navel gazing about how each of them felt about kids in Troubled Blood...and JKR likes her foreshadowing.

I'd like to think she won't go there though.

I'd like to see them get together but to leave the marriage and babies shizz to the readers imaginations.
