‘D’H has announced that Covid doesn’t exist.

Name changed for this.

One year since lockdown 1 began and DH has announced that Covid does not exist.

The illness is ‘no different to flu’, he is not having the vaccine because ‘he doesn’t need to’ and if he falls ill with any symptoms listed as Covid he will not be taking a test and will phone in sick with backache or some such nonsense.

AIBU to think WTF?
Apparently he has thought this all along and decided to let us know as he is sick of ‘having his freedom taken away from him’.

What started as a chat about weekly testing ended up with this.

I don’t know what to do with this information. All year (pre. weekly testing /vaccine rollout) he’s just gone along with it all.

So, along with AIBU to think he has lost his mind, WWYD or say in this situation?

@OutOfLine since your dh is needle fobic, are you quite sure, he hasn't been over thinking and obsessing over having the vaccine, seeing the time for his shot approaching. And found that the best way to avoid the shot is going anti covid? This would explain why he has only just come up with these theories.

NextDoorKnobber · 27/03/2021 15:17

@2bazookas

It's good news; he might get covid and die.
Nice.

I’ve definitely been thinking about this today. It’s a real possibility.

If its not different from flu then why do people queue up for the flu vaccine every year Confused

Tessateacup · 27/03/2021 15:26

It's so hard arguing with someone who's bending facts into all sorts of conspiracy shapes. It's a strange one when academically highly qualified people go down these routes - maybe the Dunning-Kruger effect is strong in your OH?

WithTeaTree · 27/03/2021 15:27

The vaccine is definitely designed to make everyone sterile. That’s why they started with the most fertile group in society, the over 80s.

Nancydrawn · 27/03/2021 15:29

Oh good, this seems to have attracted the anti-vax brigade.

OP, I'm not sure I could respect a partner who did this. As other have said, it's a horrible rabbit hole. I was reading about partners of QAnon True Believers the other day and the way their spouses have turned into someone else seemingly overnight. It's very worrisome on a mental health level. Families are being destroyed over it.

CorianderBee · 27/03/2021 15:29

Tbh I just wouldn't engage, he's clearly deluded and stupid. Leave him to it.

Lordamighty · 27/03/2021 15:31

Sounds like he is only a Covid denier because he is frightened of having the injection and it is a convenient excuse.

KFB1978 · 27/03/2021 15:32

Families are falling out due to people not respecting others views and choices and trying to railroad them into their own way of thinking. Do what you want to do and let others do the same.

jessstan2 · 27/03/2021 15:34

Does it matter what he thinks? Just don't get into discussions about it with him. Agree to differ.

Teapot13 · 27/03/2021 15:44

Tell him to get on the phone to the ministry of Health -- they'll all be relieved that coronavirus isn't a problem.

Tootsee · 27/03/2021 15:45

“DH says that hospitals weren’t swamped.
He says that because they prioritised Covid over everything else there were whole departments sitting around doing nothing.
F’ing hell.”
This is probably the only thing your husband has said, regarding Covid, that is true.

My dd (nhs nurse) had to shield. Her manager told her on one of their keeping in touch calls, that the difference between her and her colleagues was that she was sitting at home twiddling her fingers while they were pretty much sitting in the hospital twiddling their fingers. This along with all the Tik-Tok dances she saw showed how quiet their NHS hospital was,

Unfortunately, while these staff were farting about (wasting ppe, having fun, long lunch breaks and getting sent home early because there was nothing to do) many other patients were suffering because their care was ignored. One of these being my dh, whose essential appointments and mri which was supposed to happen in April (and then July) to see how medication changes in the February were affecting his transplanted organ, were cancelled. By the time he finally got seen in September, his transplanted organ was found to be end stage rejection. He died the next day.

Jenasaurus · 27/03/2021 15:53

What would he do if you declared something that he is aware of doesnt exist. Why not say something like, apparently Food isnt neccesary to live and its just propaganda to make people spend money and keep farmers etc in business, say youve been wathing youtube videos on it and from now on there will be no more meals served.

SomethingElse2 · 27/03/2021 15:57

@Tootsee - so very sorry to read this.

Emilyontmoor · 27/03/2021 15:58

This thread is very funny, though obviously not for OP . OP is worried that her partner believes a whole load of anti science nonsense. Lots of people come on to commiserate and agree it is anti science nonsense. Then suddenly there appear a group of posters with startlingly similar rhetoric to say ah but, don't believe anything you read, it is all a conspiracy of some shape or other, which great wisdom they presumably acquired unless it was in a revelation from their God, when they read it on a website.... I wonder why that website is so much more more reliable than anything written by actual scientists.... Hmm

OP The way it has come out after all this time does suggest he knows deep down it is wrong but after all the stress of the last year he wants it to be true so badly he has finally jumped the shark. If it helps it was absolutely the easiest injection I have ever had, after chemotherapy I am no lover of needles so I steeled myself and it was literally like a tiny scratch.

Make him watch Kate Garraways documentary about her husband that was on this week

Zig27 · 27/03/2021 16:07

He is entitled to have his own view. Why are you trying to control his mind?

Nancydrawn · 27/03/2021 16:17

THINKING THAT COVID IS A MADE UP DISEASE IS NOT AN OPINION.

This is not a conflict over whether someone thinks milk or dark chocolate is best or if keeping Christmas lights up past Twelfth Night is a travesty. It's not a conflict about whether you think the marginal tax rate should be increased, or whether the justice system is too lenient, or whether military spending is out of control.

It's about fact and fiction, and if we cannot agree about basic facts and truth, we can't have actual opinions about things.

You can have a debate all you want about Covid policies, but if you DON'T THINK COVID IS REAL then you cannot even have that debate.

He may be entitled to his opinions, though OP is certainly entitled to think of him differently for them. He is not entitled to his own facts.

(I am sorry for yelling but this drives me up the wall.)

OutOfLine · 27/03/2021 16:18

God I’m so sorry Tootsee.
This whole situation has been horrific for so many people. It’s interesting to read what your DD has to say about her colleagues at the hospital she works at and I’m so sorry for your loss.

PS, the answers are dark chocolate, absolutely, quite possibly, in some cases, and not as bad as in the States.

ivykaty44 · 27/03/2021 16:25

Great if it doesn't exist then he will be unlikely to get it and his vaccination can go to someone who is worried

ivykaty44 · 27/03/2021 16:28

Zig27

There is a difference between an opinion and fact

you can think what you like but your brain is in your head and there is not any changing that by your opinion of it being in your foot
