to not give in to my dd's wails of anguish tonight?

We have made up a shoebox for charity and dh brought home a cute cuddly pink cat to go in it.
Dd (4) spotted it and has fallen in love with it. She cried and cried in her bed tonight because we said it is for the shoebox child 'who may never have had a cuddly toy to cuddle'...
We had a brief look at her current cuddlies to see if there was one in good enough nick to part with in its place but they are all definitely pre-used.
I am inclined to ignore the crying because if she sees it makes us give in, surely she will try it on for everything she wants, and we will have created a problem that needn't have been.
However, the crying was pitiful...broke my heart to hear it.
AIBU to harden my heart and ignore it?

YANBU! Kids need to know that not everything that looks cute / is for kids is for them.

Not at all - and now you have one Christmas present idea sorted for her!

hotcrossbunny · 08/11/2007 22:47

Thats what I said to her. 'Put it on your Christmas list and you never know what you'll be lucky enough to get'.
It's so hard doing the right thing sometimes though!

Am off to bed now. Have a funny feeling tomorrow is going to be a tough day - will definitely need a good nights sleep

You are right not to give in - and think how pleased she will be on Christmas day.

She woke up this morning saying she would give it away because she al;ready has lots of lovely toys. She gave it a kiss, put it in the box and that was it.
