Mycatisatabbytwat · 26/03/2021 18:24

I'm currently online shopping and there's two pairs of a lovely print leggings for sale for just a quid!!
But they're second hand/used.
Would it be a bit Envy to buy them?

What kind of leggings are they? Cheapies that rip at the thigh seams after so many wears - no, high-end leggings that cost a fortune? yes if you really want them. I saw a pair of 'cute leggings' on my fb ads, nearly dropped an imaginary bollock when I saw they were £96. Fuck me, wouldn't buy them 9th hand.

partyatthepalace · 26/03/2021 21:02

Sure just wash them.

Freaking out about it is madness.

bonbonours · 26/03/2021 21:07

I would buy second hand underwear if places were allowed to sell it. If it's not damaged then why not? As previously mentioned, if something's been washed what's the problem?
I say this as someone who bought and sold second hand washable nappies. In fact there's a thriving market in second hand nappies so not sure why second hand adult underwear is such a no no. I'm assuming most of you don't pop on your pants a lot?

bonbonours · 26/03/2021 21:10

Poo on your pants!

Happycat1212 · 26/03/2021 21:12

Yuck can’t believe anyone would buy second hand underwear, I’m glad it’s not really a thing as I imagine the main buyers would be men, I know someone that use to sell her worn underwear to men! I wouldn’t buy secondhand nappies though either...

Beseigedbykillersquirrels · 26/03/2021 21:17

No, the question is why would you? You'd seriously buy second hand knickers?
LAgeDeRaisin · 26/03/2021 22:03

I can't afford second hand underwear. The really crusted on ones cost a fortune.

bonbonours · 27/03/2021 08:57

@Beseigedbykillersquirrels if they were undamaged then yes I would buy second hand underwear. Why? It's good for the environment, I hate the idea of perfectly good clothing being thrown in landfill when there's nothing wrong with it, it's just been worn a couple of times and washed.

Even the places that take clothes to developing countries won't take second hand bras and underwear, even though I'm damn sure women who have no underwear would much rather second hand than none at all. In many countries women are at an increased risk of rape or sexual assault if they don't have underwear.

Hankunamatata · 27/03/2021 09:32

Why not. The person selling may have tried them on. Didnt like jem and couldn't be arsed to send back

Imissmoominmama · 27/03/2021 09:36

@bonbonours- they definitely take bras!

OP, I would. If you’re worried, stick some bicarbonate in with your washing powder before you wear them.

BigPaperBag · 27/03/2021 09:40

Go for it. If they turn up and they’re rank with a yellow crotch then you’ve only lost a quid. I got my gym leggings second hand for £1.99 and they were fine. Good brand too.

Tontu · 27/03/2021 09:40

Probably not, as I'd be more concerned about condition for a pair of secondhand leggings than say jeans, due to stretching at the seams etc.
But if they are a decent quality brand/ they look good from the photos/ it's a print that you've been wanting....£1 isn't a big risk.
I don't think there's anything icky about it, it's just a potential gamble that they may end up in the bin.

Tontu · 27/03/2021 09:48

As an aside (as pps have mentioned charity shops and underwear), what do people do with kids underwear when they grow out of it? I used to give dd's pants to nursery for their spares box, but now she's 5, I'm not sure the school would need them.

Chickenriceandpeas · 27/03/2021 10:00

Go on eBay and there are hundreds of pairs of sports leggings that people sell on there. I’ve bought some before, and never really considered it an issue?! Those who are saying it’s minging, if a friend offered you a pair she had grown out of (for example) would you still turn it down? Weirdness. I’d buy them without thinking twice about it OP👍

CounsellorTroi · 27/03/2021 10:00

If that’s true that ‘so many women’ don’t wear underwear (VPL underwear DOES exist, by the way), the surely you shouldn’t buy ANY secondhand clothing for the bottom half. I bet you just as many women don’t bother wearing underwear is loose bottoms clothing too - and then sit down with them on.

Exactly Presumably you shouldn’t buy jeans in case the previous owner has been wearing butt flossers with them.

ElderMillennial · 27/03/2021 10:02

Minge proximity is a big consideration when buying second hand stuff

Grin

I wouldn't, OP. I get you can wash them so I am probably being a bit precious but it's really up to you.

MonkeyNotOrgangrinder · 27/03/2021 10:06

I'd feel a bit funny about it, which isn't logical, because I've bought jeggings from the charity shop before and thought nothing of it

OverTheRubicon · 27/03/2021 10:07

@LolaSmiles

I wouldn't and I buy a lot of second hand clothing. If I wouldn't buy second hand pyjamas, underwear or tights then why would I buy second hand leggings?
I dunno, do you not wear underwear with leggings? Nor have a washing machine?
Mycatisatabbytwat · 27/03/2021 11:13

I just bought them impulsively Blush They should be here in the next week or so. I'll make sure to attach a picture when they arrive GrinGrin

This is my mantra 👌🏻

MrsSpringyTheElephant · 27/03/2021 11:42

I wouldn't, it would feel a bit like second-hand knickers! 😖

MrsSpringyTheElephant · 27/03/2021 11:43

Oh, you BOUGHT them?! Bleurgh!

KeflavikAirport · 27/03/2021 11:49

They're a fiver to buy in Primark, and £7 in New Look, and H & M!

Made by slave labour. Cost isn’t the only consideration in shopping.

Bbq1 · 27/03/2021 11:50

Mmm... don't mind secondhand stuff but leggings... No. Don't think so. Too close fitting really. I like leggings and buy good brands as they fit and last better, however a lot of leggings are very cheap so just buy new.

Twinkie01 · 27/03/2021 11:52

No I wouldn't especially decent quality gym one as I always go knicker less.
