No Mr Sunak. Working from home saves me 2 FUCKING HOURS of daily commute + rush hour stress + travel costs.

I work from home now. I am more productive, less stressed and happier.

@TheKeatingFive

I don’t agree to be honest as the hours are still crazy even if they are from home. Part of the salary uplift reflects that

That’s not what a ‘London weighting’ is for though. The clue’s in the name.

Do any firms still do an "inner" London weighting as well as a regular London weighting ?

I know BT did in the 80s.

Good for you. I am looking forward to going back into the office and actually spending time with colleagues. I find the continual feeling of being ‘at work’ of wfh exhausting and stressful. I probably would quit if this was going to be my working life in this job forever.

London wages are much higher, whether that's called a London weighting or not.

define "much". It's not as high as some posters seem to think. Nowhere near enough to cover the difference in commute and housing.

It's not high enough to make up for the cost in housing, that's true. It's still higher, without having to be called 'London weighting'.

Depends on the job surely? Doing my job in London would pretty much double my salary. My brother works (or worked, currently wfh) in London and commutes 1.5 hours each way solely because, even allowing for the travel cost, his salary was so much higher (talking £20-30,000 higher) than any job he could get that wasn't in London. Many other people chose to work in London for the same reason.

My monthly pass is nearly £500, doesn't include the car park, and don't get me started on the mortgage! (true, I don't live in zone 1 obviously)

So it's debatable how much better off I would be if I could get out of London.

I could easily have doubled my salary, if not treble it, if I'd moved to a London firm. I'm a qualified accountant and didn't even earn enough to pay higher rate tax. Even today, qualified/experienced accountants in the regions can earn as little as £40k. Recruitment websites show similarly qualified/experienced accountants can realistically earn double that in London firms.
