To think I’ve been more than fair here and to tell him to eff off

Okay I’ve worked free lance for this guy for around 15 years. We’ve had our ups and downs but generally have a good working relationship . I also do work for other people . Note free lance - so I’m self employed . My DP is retired and I turned 60 in January. I’ve decided to take early retirement . Maybe do a little bit of work now and then. We want some quality time together - he had a health scare last year. I don’t have to give this guy I do work for any notice at all- but out of courtesy I’ve told him that I won’t be doing anymore work for him from July. So he has just over three months to find someone else. I’ve had abusive texts - calling me selfish and unreliable. Telling me I’ve left him in the shit. I think I’ve been more than fair. I’m tempted to tell him I won’t be doing any more work as of like now . I wouldn’t send my hairdresser or plumber of whoever abusive texts if they told me they were retiring .

If you are such a terrible person then he won’t need you at all. I think you are being very generous saying you will continue to work for another month. I would have told him to do one after the first shitty text.

MadMadMadamMim · 02/04/2021 19:16

Why on earth would you take another month of abuse?

I'd never work again for anyone who sent me shitty texts - however much I needed the money.

cstaff · 02/04/2021 19:23

Are you sure that you will get paid for any more work you do and more importantly are there any payments to you outstanding.

HoldontoOneMoreDay · 02/04/2021 19:30

You won't get paid for this month, you know that don't you? He doesn't value you at all. This isn't how freelancing is meant to be.

toocold54 · 02/04/2021 20:00

If say you know what actually I can’t be bothered with this abuse I won’t be doing anymore work from today - good luck finding someone else with that attitude.

No one should be treated like that even if you had left him high and dry even though you haven’t.

Titterofwit · 02/04/2021 21:38

Im baffled . Why put yourself through uncomfortable working days unnecessarily ?
Unless you really need the money it makes much more sense to leave immediately. I fully expect him to be vile towards you for the rest of the month.
But again . Why do this to yourself

FireflyRainbow · 03/04/2021 00:03

Just leave now, why are you doing him a favour

BonnieDundee · 03/04/2021 00:13

Can you message him and say that if you have one more abusive message from him you will quit straight away? And if you need to follow through on that, block the twat. You sound in a fairly strong position

Jente · 03/04/2021 01:30

Do one final training day for him but instead of the usual content put all his abusive texts into the PowerPoint presentation, then leave the room to the sounds of Fuck You by Ceelo Green.

Sjdmcfeet · 03/04/2021 01:35

Yeah tell him to do one cheeky sod you are not employed by him.

floofycroissant · 13/04/2021 14:54

@bagpuss90

Well I finally made a decision . I’ve told him I’m quitting at the end of April . There’s no projects. I’m a trainer- i do one off training days. He has a training company. So I’m not leaving him high and dry. I’ve had more shitty texts - I think I’m being more than generous staying as long as I am. He hasn’t even looked for anyone else. It’s going to be a long month 😩
At this point even if I were an employee with a contracted notice period I would walk. No one has a right to be abusive, his behaviour is appalling.
Longdistance · 13/04/2021 15:12

What a horrid way to end your career. Yes, using his abuse in PowerPoints. Horrid man. Make sure you keep those messages as evidence.

Nith · 01/05/2021 08:35

How did your final day go, OP?
