Radio 2 why so dumbed down

I cannot stand the relentless drivel that is Zoe Ball oh my god yesterday Stacey Soloman and her diatribe of awfulness and now replacing Graham Norton with Claudia just why ? I am Mrs Brady moany old lady for sure what else can I listen to 🥴

I loved Desmond Carrington and am still annoyed that they moved Sounds of the Sixties to before I get up.

I agree about the speciality programmes. Very worrying that they keep axing them. I loved the Big band show.

Ken is so sweet to the ones that don't do that well on pop master. He has a knack with people and isn't condescending at all.
Vanessa is so very middle class! They were talking bbqs in the summer last year and she kept saying about the tongs ' for the potato salad ' being used multiple times and spacing out the deck chairs for distancing ! She
Clearly has a big garden herself I bet!
I find men don't seem to like her being on.

I like Vanessa and am I right in thinking sometime Lisa Tarbuck (?) stands in? I don't like Zoe and the others ones ladette "cool" shows. But that's not just aimed at them because they're women - I hated Chris Evans and Moyles (was he a Chris too) for the same brashness.

I used to like Jo Good and Simon Lederer on Saturday mornings. Simon is superb, an excellent listener and distills arguments in a very clear way.

Oh, I miss Simon - especially the late night show he used to do. I think he's stopped broadcasting since he had a nasty fall and broke his jaw. I hope he returns to Radio London.

I think Gary Davis should be given a bigger role. Afternoon Show?

I was discussing this with dh and ds only yesterday.

We (including ds at 21) like the off-beat programmes like Friday Night is Music Night (now Sunday I believe), Elaine Paige and - RIP - The Organist Entertains.

I have read that the powers that be want Radio 2 to chase “Mood Mum” who is 35-44 and would normally listen to Power FM, Heart etc. Critics have said that it is turning Radio 2 into a “hen party”

Nothing beats Get It On with Bryan Burnett on Radio Scotland. It's a different theme every night and there's always a good mix of familiar songs and stuff you've never heard before.

I like Get It On too, but even that is dumbed down now! Please stop telling us what everyone is having for dinner!!

I agree Lauren Laverne is good on weekday mornings, will miss her if/when ever go back to working in the office!

Caught a bit of Ken Bruce yesterday as off this week. OMG all the listeners talked about was the vaccine! Tells you the demographic of the audience! Maybe just irked me as patiently waiting for mine!

I’ve liked Jo Whiley since listening to her on R1 mid morning show when on mat leave over 20 years ago. I am never listening to the radio at the time she’s on now though.

I listen to Ken Bruce for gentle amusement- switch off before and after. I don’t like Zoe and Jeremy Vine is harsh, biased and patronising. I think he could give Steve Wright competition for the worst on radio.

I actually like Vanessa Feltz and love when she does Jeremy’s show; the rest is now awful.

Nicky Campbell is unlistenable now. His ego really took off badly at some point imo.

I've gone to R4 except when Martha Kearney is on as she starts every question with 'and' and it annoys me massively.

Oh yes she does do that. Not that I've heard her for years now!

Absolute Radio is your savior. Good music choices, Frank Skinner and Jason Hanford at the weekend. Yes, the ads get a bit annoying, but better than Zoe Ball All I listen to on Radio 2 are Ken Bruce and Johnnie Walker, oh and occasionally Elaine Paige.

I do end up listening to Absolute quite a bit!

I wonder if ZB is perhaps considered by the powers that be a bit old for Radio 1 but IMHO she isn't grown up enough for Radio 2. Couldn't she be shunted sideways to Radio 6? I think she babbles, going slowly and then speeding up in an over-excited manner - not good for radio. I simply cannot listen to her or Ms Winkleman.

I can't understand why Steve Wright has a daily afternoon show and Sunday Love Songs - surely someone else could do the latter?

I put Classic FM on before and after Ken Bruce who I believe has been called 'the last grown up' on R2. If he leaves I'll probably desert R2 for good.

I also cannot listen to Jeremy Vine, he's not capable of thinking on his feet. Like SW he suffers from over-exposure.

I really like Jo Whiley’s evening show, so glad she’s gone back to it. I like Graham Norton and love Graham’s Guide as it’s now called.

Can’t stand Nicki Chapman when she fills in for whoever, so dull. I find Cerys Matthews immensely irritating but I’m not sure why.

Me too, I want to like her but her voice grates and didn’t she record a song called Chardonnay? I have to switch channels when she’s on.
