Same marigolds for bathroom and rest of house?

Trying to work out if I'm being OTT or if my friend is just a bit gross.

I religiously wear different pairs of marigolds for doing the dishes, cleaning the bathroom and doing other stuff around the house, to the point where I even have different colour gloves for each task. I also find the idea of reusing the same gloves for the bathroom a bit grim, so will only use disposables for the loo or anything else like that.

One of my friends thinks this is OTT and, while she doesn't wear gloves for the dishes, wears the same pair for (e.g.) cleaning her bathroom and other chores within the house (e.g. cleaning windows, laundry etc).

Who is being weird?

YABU = Fine to use same pair for different stuff
YANBU = No, that's gross!

No don't wear marigolds to do the housework. Wear gloves enough at work, not doing it at home too.

MrsFin · 24/03/2021 15:49

I don't wear gloves for any of those tasks. They make my hands get sweaty.

dementedpixie · 24/03/2021 15:49

I only have one pair for doing stuff in the kitchen
Why would you wear gloves for doing laundry?

Tinydinosaur · 24/03/2021 15:51

I use the same hands so... as long as you wash them what's the issue?

bananaboats · 24/03/2021 15:53

Only use gloves for washing the dishes nothing else so not an issue but I disposable gloves seems very ott

rainyskylight · 24/03/2021 15:53

I have bathroom gloves and other cleaning gloves. None for dishes (most stuff in dishwasher). I change bathroom gloves more regularly than the others.

Lweji · 24/03/2021 15:54

I wouldn't (and don't) use the same gloves in the kitchen and the bathroom, and I do think it is disgusting to do it, unless you dip the gloves in bleach before letting them leave the bathroom.
I wouldn't mind for other jobs around the house, but I don't wear them for laundry (unless bleaching items) or windows.

Having said that, I'm a big fan of surgical style gloves that may involve pathogen contamination and grip. Say, handling a raw chicken.

Lacucuracha · 24/03/2021 15:56

I'm with you. Bathroom marigolds in bathroom and kitchen marigolds in kitchen, and never the twain shall meet.

Lacucuracha · 24/03/2021 15:57

Think of the landfill! I've been washing chicken for years bare handed with no ill effects.

EmmaStone · 24/03/2021 15:58

Yup, kitchen marigolds for washing up and kitchen cleaning, bathroom Marigolds (old kitchen ones) for bathroom cleaning - I also wash my gloved hands thoroughly when finished with bathroom clean.

No gloves for any other cleaning.

gretagreengrapes · 24/03/2021 15:58

I use one pair of marigolds in the kitchen and one pair in the bathroom. I wash my hands with soap whilst wearing them when I've finished cleaning the bathroom so they can be used multiple times.

NannyR · 24/03/2021 16:00

I don't use gloves for any household jobs, but I would guess that if you washed them in the same way you would wash your hands, it's no less hygienic than using your bare hands to wash dishes, windows, laundry etc.

twilightcafe · 24/03/2021 16:01

Black gloves for bathrooms/bogs
Yellow ones for kitchen duties

I don't wash chicken. It's silly to. And I rarely actually handle chicken meat. I use utensils for that, which go straight in the dishwasher. So, no need to feel sorry for the landfill. Wink But think of the water you waste washing chicken.
sunflowersandbuttercups · 24/03/2021 16:01

I don't use gloves for any household tasks - I've certainly never heard of using them to do laundry!

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 24/03/2021 16:02

A different pair where food is concerned, I think.

Why on earth would you be washing chicken? No need for that or for gloves when handling said chicken
Wilkolampshade · 24/03/2021 16:04

I use the same pair of bare hands for everything.

vodkaredbullgirl · 24/03/2021 16:06

Why wash chicken?

Why wear gloves for preparing food, unless you work in kitchen prepare food for many???

MythsandSparkles · 24/03/2021 16:07

I don’t chop my hands off after cleaning the bathroom before doing the washing up so no I don’t have different gloves for different tasks.

As long as they are cleaned in between tasks what’s the issue?

Adding to the disposable gloves mountain by using them to clean the loo is a bit grim, there’s really no need.

Lacucuracha · 24/03/2021 16:07

I would never cook unwashed chicken. I don't like the filmy stuff and random bits of blood, cartilage.

Poppinjay · 24/03/2021 16:08

I don't wear gloves for any of those tasks.

I also don't wash chicken as it increases the risk of cross contamination.

I just wash my hands thoroughly in soap and water and wash cloths on a hot wash after each use.

I'm quite sure that gloves are less hygienic than bare hands for household tasks.

megletthesecond · 24/03/2021 16:10

Yanbu. Different gloves for cleaning the bathroom and washing up.

They're inside as well. Wink
Justanotherworkingmom · 24/03/2021 16:12

In fairness, I am a bit of a germaphobe, so couldn't imagine putting an ungloved hand in the loo or near raw meat, and also have sensitive skin, which is why I'll wear gloves for most housework.
