Disgusting things discovered on MN

999 replies

Pricklypear12 · 24/03/2021 14:34

During my time on MN I have read about some disgusting/unhygienic things that people do on a regular basis.

Examples are:
Letting dogs lick human plates
Washing dog bowls in dishwasher with regular dishes
Sharing bath water (seen this one today!)
Sucking snot out of a baby's nose (I somewhat get it but really think I could never)

What are some vile things you've read about on MN that are seemingly normal to those that post about them?

Thanks @LaceyBetty
I’m good!

Armi · 25/03/2021 22:41

@EasterIsComing

I ALWAYS wee before I shower.
Me too.
Timeisavirtue · 25/03/2021 22:41

By some of these posts I’m probably a worse offender.
I change my bed every 2 weeks ( once a week in the summer)
We wash tea towels with the rest of the washing because you know my washing machine actually cleans clothes 😱
My dog licks plates which then go straight in the dishwasher where guess what? They get washed...
I don’t change my bra every day.....

TheKeatingFive · 25/03/2021 22:41

Poo particles being mixed in with my tea towels is a different matter

If these poo particles are visible, I wouldn’t be putting the underwear in the machine without a hand wash first.

If they’re not and they’re then getting washed at a high temperature, I can’t get too excited. What do you think is going to happen?

TheKeatingFive · 25/03/2021 22:43

Amazeballs 😆

CandyLeBonBon · 25/03/2021 22:43

@Wide

Ooh another gross one which i will probably be eye rolled at is wiping the bin with your washing up sponge, not ok
What about if you wipe your bin but BLEACH IT AFTERWARDS? Wink
maggiethecat · 25/03/2021 22:44

@TheKeatingFive
Who’s getting excited? Keep doing what you do.

CandyLeBonBon · 25/03/2021 22:46

@Pricklypear12

What do you all think to someone who washes their feet in the kitchen sink? (NOT me or in my house but I have witnessed it)
Why would that be unhygienic?
TheKeatingFive · 25/03/2021 22:47

Who’s getting excited?

Well the person going ‘omg poo particles’ for one Wink

Keep doing what you do

I ... will

@Dee96

Ugh I have to get this off my chest ... I dont know if its because I come from an OCD family but I've moved in with pil's I cant stand their hygiene standards! First of all - they let the cat eat up on the table. They wash both cat and dog bowls with the same sponge that is used to clean out dishes 🤢 They throw tea towels and cleaning cloths in the washing machine with whatever, dirty rugs, underwear, you name it. They rarely change the washing up sponge! I am always the one that goes it When they wash up there is usually residue on the plates and cups Recently had loads of rats in the house and never bothered to get the carpets clean even though they were running wild on them all Put clean clothes in the bathroom to dry ( incase you didnt know if you dont put the lid down after you flush those particles go into the air and land on the clothes) Dont know if they let the dog eat of plates but wouldnt be surprised Hmm
@Dee96 when you say you come from an OCD family, do you mean that you have all been diagnosed with a the very debilitating mental health issue known as obsessive compulsive disorder, or do you mean you come from a family who gets very anxious about cleanliness routines? Because they're not the same.

This thread has turned into a pissing contest on who can heroically say that they are dirtiest, most hygienic. And oh of course your not dead because of it so it must be fine.
Just because it hasn’t killed you, doesn’t mean it’s not disgusting. But hey if you want to live like that.

No. It's rightly taking the piss out of unnecessary levels of hygiene based on anxiety-based requirements
Merename · 25/03/2021 22:59

I was on this thread early on and have just noticed it again days later. Haven’t read it all but a few more pages and I’m fascinated by these different views. I googled ‘what makes people more easily disgusted than others’ and this article is quite interesting! Apparently those who are more ‘disgustable’ are more likely to be younger, and more politically conservative. Are any of you daily towel washer never pee in the shower types young Tories?! Grin

Just because it hasn’t killed you, doesn’t mean it’s not disgusting.

It’s not just that it hasn’t killed people. It’s the fact that it has caused no ill effects whatsoever. You have to wonder what the fuss is all about,

But if the Hyacinths want to throw around the word ‘disgusting’ because it makes them feel better, they can crack on. It being a free country and all.

Merename · 25/03/2021 23:03

And ps, did the googling - surely munting is not a real thing that someone has done?

thatsgotit · 25/03/2021 23:05

I don’t change my bra every day.....

People wash their bras every day?!?! Shock

thatsgotit · 25/03/2021 23:05

^ change, I mean

XelaM · 25/03/2021 23:05

Why would you pee in the shower when the toilet is presumably in the same room? Hmm

inappropriateraspberry · 25/03/2021 23:10

@XelaM

Why would you pee in the shower when the toilet is presumably in the same room? Hmm
Because it all goes down the same drain and you're stood under running water to 'flush' it away already. I do t think people are just crouching in the bath or shower tray for a number 1, fully dressed. It's when in the shower already. 😆
Luckyelephant1 · 25/03/2021 23:10

I really don't get why peeing in the shower is seen as disgusting. It goes straight down the drain. Dirty bathwater also goes down the same drain. The pee is washed away and I clean the tub afterwards. Where's the disgusting part?

And I'd like to think my hygiene standards are pretty high, I don't put cleaning cloths in with underwear, the thought of dogs licking my bowl or snot sucking turns my stomach. We wash our sheets generally every week. But I still don't get why peeing in the shower is a hygiene issue.

pam290358 · 25/03/2021 23:11

Quite a few posters on this thread are assuming that all waste water goes down the same pipe, so OK to pee in the shower etc. You actually have a waste water pipe which carries water from sinks, baths, showers, etc into the drain. The soil pipe exclusively carries waste water from your toilet, along with everything it contains, so if you pee in the shower it doesn’t end up in the sewer, it ends up in waste water.

Still it's only a bit of wee, I thought it was sterile? And some people drink it! Now that IS disgusting!
melononapear · 25/03/2021 23:16

A) My shower isn't in the same room
B) It's a waste of water
C) Its going to immediately go down the plug hole and I'm going to wash myself straight afterwards
D) The shower gets cleaned after I use it
E) Sometimes I don't even need to go until after I'm already in the warm water. I'm not getting out and drying off just to go to another room and pee 😂

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 25/03/2021 23:17

@pam you’re misrepresenting waste management
waste water is the water from
toilets
sinks
baths and showers
washing machines
dishwashers
wastewater pipe goes to water treatment works. So actually it’s ok
