Disgusting things discovered on MN

999 replies

Pricklypear12 · 24/03/2021 14:34

During my time on MN I have read about some disgusting/unhygienic things that people do on a regular basis.

Examples are:
Letting dogs lick human plates
Washing dog bowls in dishwasher with regular dishes
Sharing bath water (seen this one today!)
Sucking snot out of a baby's nose (I somewhat get it but really think I could never)

What are some vile things you've read about on MN that are seemingly normal to those that post about them?

@vodkaredbullgirl

You wouldn't wet wipe your arse.
Erm toilet wipes.......?!
selectabo · 25/03/2021 04:18

@XelaM

I agree with the OP that all those things are gross, but sharing bath water one after another really made my stomach turn Confused That’s so gross
"Sharing" bath water with yourself is pretty odd let alone with someone else.. I never understand how does one feels clean by taking a bath, unless you enter the bath already clean and just sit in it to relax..

@Tillytwilight

For the record, I’ve sucked snot out of my baby’s congested nose. It’s something you just don’t think about when a tiny baby is crying in pain and not breathing clearly. More effective than the nasal sucker you’d use for toddlers
Yes me too - the GP suggested it when my youngest was a baby and struggling to breath properly with congestion. I just did it without a second thought. I certainly didn't consider it vile.

I had no idea everyone was using wet wipes. No wonder the sewers are blocked.

As for washing towels every day. Ffs. Unnecessary.

LolaNova · 25/03/2021 05:49

I think I do basically everything on this thread Grin

hahameow · 25/03/2021 06:15

If you're wetting toilet paper to wipe what I'm earth do you do in a public toilet or a if you have a separate loo? And in your main bathroom, are you hobbling over to the sink and cleaning up at the sink?!

Febo24 · 25/03/2021 06:34

Using a towel after using a bidet... then we're back to bottom towel territory and crazy towel washing regimes.

Honestly my mind is blown on the wet wiping.

Another question, are you teaching your kids this too and how do they mange this as school?

Soubriquet · 25/03/2021 06:54

DO NOT FLUSH WET WIPES

Even if they are labelled as flushable

They aren’t. They will block pipes

TheFiend · 25/03/2021 07:21

Has anyone mentioned putting your toilet brush in the dishwasher yet?

There was a thread on here a while back with someone who was cleaning their toilet brush in the dishwasher and claiming it was completely normal and everyone does it. Can’t remember if it was a troll or not but that’s taking it a step too far for me.

Most of the other things on this thread, I’ve done at some point in my life!

I'm pretty grim according to the thread.. I pee in the shower, eat my own snot, let the dog lick plates.
But I will never dry wipe! 🤢 Always wet wipes, it's so much cleaner. Other countries have it right with their toilet hoses.

And I don't flush them, they go in the bin!
boobot1 · 25/03/2021 07:41

@MimiDaisy11

You could wet the tissue first then wipe which is what most people I know do

I've never asked anyone how they clean their arse before. Am I alone?

😂😂😂😂

Disgusting things discovered on Mumsnet
People who believe that just because they don't do something it must be disgusting, and then judge other people who do !

Mrgrinch · 25/03/2021 07:45

Jesus Christ I can't believe how many people are fine with dogs licking plates and putting dog bowls in the dishwasher. I feel sick.

This is why I won't eat or drink in the house of someone I don't know extremely well.

Cocothecat42 · 25/03/2021 07:49

Can someone please explain the outrage of dogs licking plates when they're then put through the dishwasher and disinfected so they are perfectly clean again? I genuinely don't see what is so disgusting about that?

CandyLeBonBon · 25/03/2021 07:51

I am seriously disturbed by the Pearl clutching on this thread. It's bizarre

What exactly do you think happens to them tjat is so awful?

And whilst we're on the subject, what about reusable nappies? I mean babies shit in them, and they get washed and reused! And NO-ONE dies. It's almost like cleaning and washing KILLS BACTERIA!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 25/03/2021 07:53

What's disgusting is people calling other people's behaviour disgusting. Stop being so judgemental.

And some people seem to have fallen 'hook, line and sinker' for the marketing mantra of 'cleanliness'. The same ones who probably use that fragrant smell spray in the loo and fanjo freshener!

Blimey. That's a bit of a shame, you could be missing out on so much fun and enjoyment?

Agreed . Only heard of plate licking canines in MN though !

A bit like 'dry wiping' . On the first page everyone was asking what on earth it was but now we're up to page 24 it seems to have become a well known phrase and will probably be known as DW from now on .Not to be muddled with DW for Darling Wife Grin

scentedgeranium · 25/03/2021 08:29

Every jam recipe I've ever read says put your jars in the dishwasher to sterilise them. I'd have thought therefore that a bit of dog slobber would be dearth with by a dishwasher

Biffbaff · 25/03/2021 08:31

The grossest thing I have come across is a breastfeeding mum whose blocked duct was so bad, she couldn't shift it in any of the usual ways. Her husband had a suck and got a mouthful of pus Sad - cleared the blockage though!

Whoever said that a bar of soap is unhygienic, what is wrong with you?
