To ask why on earth I've been offered the vaccine??

cu5tardcreams · 20/03/2021 14:23

Not that im complaining of course!! Just wondering if I've missed something here...

I am 25..no underlying health conditions..not a healthcare worker, carer etc. I was offered the jab yesterday via a text from my GP (definitely real as have previous messages saved).

Could this be a mistake? I don't know whether to go ahead and book, I don't feel I deserve one yet haha! I haven't been following the vaccination criteria as I didn't expect to get one for ages.

Any ideas why this has happened?

previous gestational diabetes?

Just take it.

Inneedofanewwardrobe · 20/03/2021 14:25

You could ring your surgery and ask if you’re that bothered. None of us will know!

Spied · 20/03/2021 14:25

Anxiety/MH issues? Weight?

Hamster1111 · 20/03/2021 14:26

High BMI?

Tickly · 20/03/2021 14:26

Book it! My little bro got one. Similarly no idea why.

XenoBitch · 20/03/2021 14:26

If you have been offered it (and you want it) then book an appointment. If it was a mistake then you wont be able to book online anyway.

cu5tardcreams · 20/03/2021 14:27

Must be anxiety? I had no idea that even made you eligible. Thanks

Helenluvsrob · 20/03/2021 14:29

Just book it.
Some gps have a very young population eg university practices / unusual estates that just have young families

80sMum · 20/03/2021 14:29

My GP had loads of surplus vaccine a few days ago, so they texted and phoned their patients to ask if they could go that same morning for a vaccination. If they don't use it before it expires then it has to be disposed off, which is such a waste.

Maybe yours had the same issue?

Blondie107 · 20/03/2021 14:30

DP is 22 and he's been offered his. I think some areas are further ahead with it than others

UrAWizHarry · 20/03/2021 14:31

Just take it. Everyone will be offered it eventually so there are bound to be cases where people have it slightly ahead of schedule.

Insertfunnyname · 20/03/2021 14:32

Just book it - you’ll waste more of their time questioning and rebooking. Just get it done everyone needs it at some point anyway.

BlackBucketOfCheese · 20/03/2021 14:32

My GP practice have been offering all people with MH conditions an opportunity to have the vaccine on days when there is an excess.

Many people are also getting calls to have the vaccine and wondering why.
Some of the issues have included: being hospitalised for asthma attacks as a child, gestational diabetes in a previous pregnancy, living in a deprived post code, having been previously been noted as having a caring role.

Please take it up and celebrate!

Racoonworld · 20/03/2021 14:34

Could be anxiety, could be a mistake on your health records, could be your area is ahead. Just book it and get it done, everyone who gets it now is a help.

KatherineJaneway · 20/03/2021 14:38

Just take it. I'd love to get a vaccine appointment, whatever has transpired you have a shot at the vaccine. Take it! You'll piss everyone off if you add to the admin burden by asking why.

Purplesunflowers · 20/03/2021 14:39

I had mine yesterday - I’m 36 with no health issues. Also got a text from surgery giving a specific date they had availability. Not sure if it’s surplus vaccine or just that they’re getting through people very quickly (it was super efficient!).

ChequerBoard · 20/03/2021 14:40

Some areas as are so far ahead that they have spare appointments and obviously it's better to use up the available capacity and vaccine everyone as fast as we can.

My DD18 (with mild asthma) has an appointment for Sunday as the vaccination centre called the school health centre and asked if there were any sixth form students who wanted to be vaccinated.

MintyMabel · 20/03/2021 14:57

Why on earth do you think MN would know? Ask your GP.

gwilt · 20/03/2021 15:02

My colleague with health anxiety had it early. Hope it goes well regardless Smile

cu5tardcreams · 20/03/2021 15:03

I didn't think anyone on here would know...im not looking for a diagnosis fgs. I just wondered if anyone had experienced anything similar/knew more about the guidelines than me/fancied a chat.

Christ people on this site are so bloody uptight sometimes....

If you do a search then this is asked every 2 or 3 days.

I got a gp text to book and went last week to local vaccination centre I could not work out why I had been asked, as knew others ( I should be group 9) in group 6 who had not been yet, then looked at group 6 and that I was in it because I was classed as an unpaid carer, even though have since lost both parents.
As others stated just go and have it because people wanting to ask why, re-book or refusing a certain vaccine will just cause more headaches for the rollout.

Frownette · 20/03/2021 15:24

It can be a bit random at the moment. I got mine via central facility rather than GP.

GL with it, definitely accept. The more that go through the better.

PyongyangKipperbang · 20/03/2021 15:24

I am 47 with no UHC and had it yesterday. I think its because our practice doesnt have a big group of patients in older age groups, it is mainly young families. So I suspect that they banged through the high risk groups pretty quickly and can move on to younger/less risky groups.
