To ask why on earth I've been offered the vaccine??

cu5tardcreams · 20/03/2021 14:23

Not that im complaining of course!! Just wondering if I've missed something here...

I am 25..no underlying health conditions..not a healthcare worker, carer etc. I was offered the jab yesterday via a text from my GP (definitely real as have previous messages saved).

Could this be a mistake? I don't know whether to go ahead and book, I don't feel I deserve one yet haha! I haven't been following the vaccination criteria as I didn't expect to get one for ages.

Any ideas why this has happened?

Take it. I’m 64 got asthma hadn’t had mine yet! (In Scotland were behind)😡
I just wondered if anyone had experienced anything similar/knew more about the guidelines than me/fancied a chat.

If you do a search then this is asked every 2 or 3 days.

One from yesterday www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4196453-Invited-for-vaccine-but-not-sure-why-would-you-take-it

One from 5 days ago www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4193182-Why-have-I-been-given-a-Covid-vaccine
I'm surprised you only found those ones, this thread is posted a couple of time every day it feels like Grin

And @cu5tardcreams you literally asked if anyone knew why? Confused
Of course posters are going to say they have no idea

Tablegs · 20/03/2021 15:35

Take them up on it.

And maybe don't tell all and sundry otherwise you'll get it in the neck (how come you've had yours and I've not had mine etc etc).

EleanorLenor · 20/03/2021 15:37

Take it. Don’t muck about with the process - it’s an absolute pain to fix !

cu5tardcreams · 20/03/2021 15:38

@AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair

Im just trying to start a new gameshow. Guess my unknown underlying health condition.

You're all rubbish at it though.

I wouldn't hold your breath for that one to be picked up by any TV channels Grin

Amdone123 · 20/03/2021 15:40

Yeah, just go and get it, op. My niece got hers, she's 21, because a nurse friend had some left over at the hospital in which she works, and they opened it up to family and friends.

cu5tardcreams · 20/03/2021 15:42

@AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair

But I can hold my breathe for a really long time, I don't have asthma.

Thats why im here. Keep up.

OP posts:
Unusualusernames · 20/03/2021 15:47

Could be a mistake. I was booked in for a flu vaccination and the nurse was really rude to me and sent me away without it. When queried this with the surgery it turned out I was "accidentally" recorded as having downes syndrome

TurquoiseDress · 20/03/2021 15:48

Just take the offer & get it booked!

It takes up so much more time to query it, there will likely be an answer perhaps, but if I were you I'd just take the opportunity!

Fradishes · 20/03/2021 15:50

“AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair

@cu5tardcreams I bet channel 4 would if you did it naked Grin

TurquoiseDress · 20/03/2021 15:50

also, just to add, definitely get on and take it!

just look at the rest of Europe, they are doing terribly with vaccine roll out...look at France, still working their way through the people in their 70s & 80s if that at all

IdblowJonSnow · 20/03/2021 15:51

Itll be surplus, just go and get it. Could get wasted if you don't!

rosydreams · 20/03/2021 15:54

sometimes they have vaccines about to expire and anyone is better than wastage

ShaneTheThird · 20/03/2021 15:55

Are you in the south? All of my friends in their twenties have suddenly been called for theres and this week 5 of them have all had the oxford jab. They must be really far ahead in some places.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 20/03/2021 15:56

@IdblowJonSnow

It's not surplus if you're invited to make an appointment on a future date. Loads of people are being invited and they don't know why, it doesnt really matter, every person done is one more nearer the end.

It may not be the same all over but some places near me are posting on social media for anyone to go as there's so much capacity.

LibertyWX · 20/03/2021 15:57

If you're in London, the uptake in some parts are low.

Otherwise I have no idea. Lol. Just ride with it. Smile

celebrityskin · 20/03/2021 15:58

Probably incorrect coding on GP notes.

Only over 50s or those with underlying medical conditions should officially have been called.

Commonest are being coded as "carer" or having your height inputted as m instead of cm which makes the computer think you're very obese and high risk

Mygardenisnotperfect · 20/03/2021 16:01

I’m a GP and our surgery had loads of people cancel at the last minute with the recent scare stories about clots. So we were told just to book in anyone we could as we’re pretty far through the schedule anyway.

kwiksavenofrillsusername · 20/03/2021 16:11

Yeah just go for it! I think I got mine early as I had very mild childhood asthma. When I went to get my jab most of the people were 30s and 40s. I didn’t bother phoning the doctor as that just wastes more time and the receptionists probably get loads of those calls a day.

MrsJBaptiste · 20/03/2021 16:16

@Tablegs

⬆️ Absolutely this!

It could well be a mistake, I know a couple of 40 year olds and a number of 16-18 year olds who were called by accident when we were vaccinating 70 year olds.

I'd say it will be more of a faff to cancel but keep it quiet if you do go! 💉

GiveIrelandBackToTheIrish · 20/03/2021 22:10

Hahaha OP your responses are really funnyGrin

icedgem85 · 20/03/2021 22:26

Are you overweight? That’s the most common reason, or gestational diabetes, or hypertension if you’ve been pregnant recently

Spookyspoonmcginty · 20/03/2021 22:27

This happened to me! 28 with no health issues, not a carer etc. and was sent an appointment letter. Just take it and don't question a good thing Grin
