I don't know how to link the story, but it is the first story in the dreaded DM. Off duty probationary police officer caught on cctv attacking a woman, spared jail. His only punishment is to be suspended.

I saw this in the guardian. Appalled at how pathetic the punishment was. £500 fine and community service. Which apparently will be hard for him as he's [ used to be] a policeman and doesn't want to work with [other] criminals. Maybe he should have thought about that before randomly attacking some poor woman.

Vile man. Glad to see that today the policeman who killed his girlfriend 'accidentally' by squeezing her neck till she stopped breathing has had 3 years added to his trivial sentence. As for this one. I hope the sentence can be appealed and increased. £500 fine? Nothing. I expect I could get one of those for having the presumption to be a dangerous woman on Clapham Common.

SnackSizeRaisin · 19/03/2021 22:47

Correction. Not community service. A 14 week curfew 7pm till 7 am. Hardly much if a punishment during lockdown

Lenient sentence, I hope it is appealed.

He is suspended but will face gross misconduct hearing, which couldn’t be held until criminal case concluded.

Community service and fines are very sadly not uncommon for assaults on women. I work in the criminal justice area, curfews aren't usually given to DA perps because you could be trapping them with a partner! They're more commonly given to burglars or people who get drunk and have fights in pubs. He'll likely do the community service as an individual placement, because other offenders would pose a risk to him if they recognise him as a police officer. It's disgusting. Women get harsher sentences for not paying their TV licences.

People need to stop pretending people here don't read dailymail... Obviously most do since most articles here come from there!😂

Yanbu tho with the rest. Yanbu.

When I read things like this I'm amazed that people think that the police and judicial system isn't just one big boy's club

Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 19/03/2021 23:22

Cannot believe a serious assault on a woman has resulted in nothing. Terrifying and sends a really dangerous message.

cerseii · 19/03/2021 23:23

West Midlands police are atrocious

subsy1 · 19/03/2021 23:27

... so are Greater Manchester Police!

Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 19/03/2021 23:38

We make up 52% of the population and pay our taxes like anyone else, so why aren’t public services working for us?

OhWhyNot · 19/03/2021 23:42

It’s shocking it’s filmed too I can’t understand how that isn’t a prison sentence. Well actually I can as violence against women and girls is accepted

I saw the woman he attacked in the news she was trying not to cry but couldn’t help herself it was really sad to witness
