To be worried about the safety of my Cybex car seat?

Bought DD the Sirona S i size less than 2 years ago and it has developed a major fault with the rotational mechanism. It is really tricky to lock it into place and getting worse everyday. Frankly, I'm not sure if it is even safe to use at this point? What if we have an accident and the rotational mechanism fails.

I've contacted Cybex customer service and the response is underwhelming, no sense of urgency, making me repeat and resend the same information over again and implying that I have no right to a replacement but will have to accept a repair. As a working mother there is no way I can be without a working car seat for any period of time (to get DD to nursery) and I don't want to compromise on her safety. What do I do?

This was £300 car seat that was purchased due to its safety rating. What further concerns me is that a Google of past MN threads indicate this is a known issue with this model. Please bear this in mind if you are thinking about buying from Cybex ☹️

Just thinking about this... should I report this to trading standards? If there is a known safety issue with a car seat model perhaps there should be a product recall?

I have that car seat, was told it’s only recommended up to around 18months. Is DC in the weight range for it?

I would kick up a fuss with cybex and see if they can send you a replacement. That doesn't sound safe AT all. Can you get a cheap ish one like a joie stages if money is tight?

A quick Google search confirms it is suitable to be used rear facing up to 105cm or approx 4 years and 22 months old DD is not anywhere near that height.

It's not a wear and tear issue, if anything with the lockdowns we have had the seat has had not had anything like the normal usage for a car seat.
