So, thank you for reading on. I would appreciate your views to help me sort out my priorities and answer my dilemma.

I'm a school leader, working to lead a school other than my own. I am expecting OFSTED to call on Monday, to inspect the school Tuesday.

The school has required significant support which I am providing.

I have my jab booked for Sunday.

My partner is CEV.

My worry is if I suffer side effects from the jab, this could affect my ability to lead the school through the inspection. Inspections are stressful enough when feeling 100%, never mind when not.
It would also leave me with a real sense of letting the school and colleagues down.

What would you do, delay the jab or take the risk on having side effects which could affect the inspection?
(No anti vac comments please, this is about my commitment to a school by having the jab delayed, I will be having the jab).

Bad side effects is a very maybe thing. I know many more people who had no side effects than any side effects. Of those who had side effects, everyone I know was fine within 48 hours. If I wanted the jab I would prioritise that.

HidingFromDD · 19/03/2021 11:57

vaccination definitely, there's too many unknowns if you don't. With supply difficulties it may take weeks to get another one, inspectors may not turn up until Thursday, you may feel absolutely fine, you may get Covid while you're waiting....

ScarfaceCwaw · 19/03/2021 12:23

@crosstalk

Second the PP who said to tell them today. No one I know out of 30 or so much older than I suspect you are has felt much more than a stiff arm so good luck. Are you the only person who can lead this?
The relationship with side effects is inverse to age. The younger the person receiving it, the more likely they are to have significant side effects due to vigorous immune response. Over-70s tend to have none whatsoever.
Anothername45 · 19/03/2021 17:13

Thank you everyone for your support. I am going to try and have the vaccine early, fingers crossed for tomorrow.

This is a small school with no SLT and as the original deferral suggest no one able to lead the inspection.

A tear in my eye at those of you who said you admired my commitment to the school, especially the parent below who said something along the lines of ' if you were the leader in my children's school I would prefer you alive'.

Yes, the inspection won't officially start until Tuesday, but that important long telephone call with the inspectors will be Monday. It really does set the scene.

Thank you.

Good luck @Anothername45

GreyhoundG1rl · 19/03/2021 18:51

Best of luck, op. 🍀

Stickytreacle · 20/03/2021 09:55

Hope all goes well op, I'm sure the inspectors will be half expecting lots of disruption regardless during a pandemic, so don't feel guilty if it can't go ahead as planned.

Anothername45 · 22/03/2021 20:17

So, I've had the jab, great news!

The bad news is I feel rubbish, not too bad yesterday but awful today and leaving my work early.

Good news is OFSTED didn't call today. Other schools yes, but not mine.

Perhaps I'll feel better tomorrow when the call just might come through for inspection Wednesday.

Hope you have a good night's sleep and feel better tomorrow

topcat2014 · 22/03/2021 20:30

Have the jab. It's just a job. And I say that as chair of governors.

Sootess · 22/03/2021 20:32

Take a couple paracetamol and an early night @Anothername45
You will probably feel fine tomorrow.

Good luck. This school are very lucky to have youSmile

She's had the bloody jab!!! 🙄
YouTediousShit · 22/03/2021 20:34

Hope you sleep well too. I have many health conditions, had my vaccine on Friday. Felt awful on Saturday, but felt on top of the world come Monday

mommybunny · 22/03/2021 20:34

Well done op, great that you updated.

Sorry you’re feeling so rubbish. I had my first jab on Saturday and spent all night shivering. That went away with paracetamol by yesterday morning but I had a splitting headache all day yesterday that ibuprofen would not touch. Feeling much better today so there is every reason to think you should tomorrow, like so many others here.

Good luck with the inspection.

Kolo · 22/03/2021 20:59

Best of luck with Ofsted! I had my jab last week. Sleep and pre-emotive paracetamol got me through the side effects within 24 hours. Take paracetamol even if you don't feel like you need it yet, and sleep/rest as much as you can before O arrive.

FaceyRomford · 22/03/2021 21:37

Jab. Covid can kill you. Failing an inspection can't.

Splicedbananas · 23/03/2021 08:27

Glad you had it OP. I'm sure you'll feel much better today after a decent night's sleep.

Nocaloriesinchocolate · 23/03/2021 08:38

Take the jab. Being brutal, and looking at worst case scenarios would you prefer to be a “widow” in charge of a 5 star school (sorry, I don’t know the terminology) or have your partner with you and a failing school? I am 70 and had a bit of an achy arm and no more. I would definitely have gone into work if I were still working (and work involved a 60 mile drive and total concentration all day).

Stickytreacle · 23/03/2021 08:46

Glad it's all worked out, but you need to work on putting yourself first.Wink

ssd · 23/03/2021 08:46

Fab @Anothername45

LannieDuck · 23/03/2021 08:57

Well done, hope you feel better soon and good luck for the inspection!

pickingdaisies · 23/03/2021 11:01

So glad you had the jab! I was useless for nearly a week after mine. Not ill, just too tired to move, it was weird. Hope you feel better in time for the Call!

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 23/03/2021 11:22

I think you made the correct decision and hope you are feeling better soon.

Anothername45 · 26/03/2021 17:37

All done and a positive 'taking effective action to...' OFSTED judgement.

Still feel rubbish from my jab, but got through on paracetamol.
Only two hours sleep last night worrying about the inspection.

But all done and it is the weekend, early night for me tonight.

Thank you for your support on here, it has been really welcomed this week.

Agree with PP who suggested going to the vax centre tomorrow morning. I bet they’ll do you and you’ll likely be over the worst by Monday. I felt awful but could have functioned on day 3. If they aren’t able to fit you in early, do keep Sunday
