So, thank you for reading on. I would appreciate your views to help me sort out my priorities and answer my dilemma.

I'm a school leader, working to lead a school other than my own. I am expecting OFSTED to call on Monday, to inspect the school Tuesday.

The school has required significant support which I am providing.

I have my jab booked for Sunday.

My partner is CEV.

My worry is if I suffer side effects from the jab, this could affect my ability to lead the school through the inspection. Inspections are stressful enough when feeling 100%, never mind when not.
It would also leave me with a real sense of letting the school and colleagues down.

What would you do, delay the jab or take the risk on having side effects which could affect the inspection?
(No anti vac comments please, this is about my commitment to a school by having the jab delayed, I will be having the jab).

I would have said jab but I’m lying in bed recovering 2 days later.

So if you do get the jab make sure you have a back up plan

GrolliffetheDragon · 19/03/2021 09:36

I'd have it. I felt really rough after mine, chills, aches all over, headache, but dosed up on painkillers and pushing myself a bit I was ok to work/do everything as normal, even if it was miserable.

Angiereturns · 19/03/2021 09:49

I'd say delay it wasn't for your DH being CEV and you working in a school. In your circumstances the jab is definitely top priority.

I had it on Monday and felt rubbish for three days. The first day I was unable to work, the second and third were fine with paracetamol.

Could you ask them to contact you if any vaccines are left over this evening?

LilMidge01 · 19/03/2021 09:56

What side effects are you expecting? Your arm will be sore but its hardly going to be debilitating. On an ordinary day, you could have wind that would be just as distracting...really shouldnt stop you doing your job!!

StealthPolarBear · 19/03/2021 09:58

A few people I know have had flu type symptoms. Achy, tired etc.

zafferana · 19/03/2021 10:00

Have the jab OP. Most people who have symptoms just feel a bit rough for 24 hours. I did and took paracetamol every six hours and that was enough to get me through a normal day.

ssd · 19/03/2021 10:02

You sound very committed to your work which is really admirable, but your health comes first. I'm sure the inspectors would agree.

PembrokeshireDreaming · 19/03/2021 10:07

Ex-teacher and current chair of Govs here...........I get your dilemma!

I had the astra zenica jab and was rough the next day but could have pushed through it for something as important as an inspection.
Get the jab.

ScarfaceCwaw · 19/03/2021 10:12

Get the jab. Put yourself, your health and your partner first. The chances are that you will be able to push through with side effects if necessary, and I say this as someone who had AZ on Weds and who spent all of yesterday in bed with a fever and splitting headache. I could have dosed myself up and got up if it had been critical though.

I'm up today and fine except for an achy arm.

Livpool · 19/03/2021 10:17

I would get the vaccine - I had mine and had a sore arm for a few days (Oxford one). Out of 8 people who have had the jab that I know only 2 have had side-regency's (feeling flu-like) but the side effects lasted less than 24 hours

nettie434 · 19/03/2021 10:19

I am glad that you seem to feel more inclined towards having the vaccine. I didn't have any side effects myself but know that it varies for everyone. You will feel so much less anxious knowing that the risks of transmitting covid to your partner are reduced by so much once you have been vaccinated.

Mooserp · 19/03/2021 10:22

I wouldn't have it so close to something that I couldn't cancel. There's no way I could have gone out to work the day after mine, I couldn't even stand up for long and certainly wasn't safe to drive.

Could you get it today or tomorrow instead? I was helping at a clinic this week and there were people turning up without appointments but who met the criteria on age and they weren't turned away 🤷‍♀️

Ferrylights · 19/03/2021 10:25

Have the jab - my elderly mum ended up in hospital after hers but she is the exception rather than the norm. Very unusual reaction but she reacts badly to all sorts of drugs so I expected it

ScarfaceCwaw · 19/03/2021 10:26

I work hard and care a lot about my job, but if I've learned anything in my life it's never to compromise my own health or someone else's for a job. Everyone is replaceable and can be coped without if necessary. Your health is not.

Flippyferloppy · 19/03/2021 10:27

Health before work, always!

Nettleskeins · 19/03/2021 10:40

I'd delay for a week...it isn't that difficult to rebook.
I had very mild side effects (50s) but felt so so tired for a few days after. I'm not in a demanding job like you either

Calmdown14 · 19/03/2021 10:50

Just check when it can be rearranged to. If it's only a matter of days then delay, if it's weeks take your chances...but you lose nothing by checking

lockeddownandcrazy · 19/03/2021 10:55

I would rebook for after the ofsted. You need to be on full form

Kiehl · 19/03/2021 10:57

Got the jab at 9:00 yesterday morning. Absolutely fine.
Do not pass this amazing opportunity to get the jab and be safe.

Stickytreacle · 19/03/2021 11:07

It's a complete no brainer to me, your and your dh's health and lives v's a job. Graveyards are full of indispensable people. The world will continue on if an inspection has to be rearranged. It wouldn't enter my head not to get the vaccine, I think priorities are skewed re work in this country.

Come on! Your partner is CEV and you are debating it

olivesnutsandcheeseplease · 19/03/2021 11:13

Get the vaccine, no question.

Lead the staff by example. Your health and that of your family come first.

sherrystrull · 19/03/2021 11:16

Get the vaccine.
It's time to stop putting work before your own health.

Newkitchen123 · 19/03/2021 11:45

Cancel the booking.
Take what's yours
Transfer individually the rest of the money

crosstalk · 19/03/2021 11:49

Second the PP who said to tell them today. No one I know out of 30 or so much older than I suspect you are has felt much more than a stiff arm so good luck. Are you the only person who can lead this?
