To have never come across a fridge drip tray being mouldy when it is 4 months old.

I'm no spring chicken and have never come across a mouldy drip tray before. Is this a common thing? Hoover say it is normal for drip trays to go mouldy after 4 months of use and I cannot remove it to clean it. I've managed to clean it with bleach but have never come across this before, despite renting lots of different properties.

What is this drip tray that you speak of? I have never been aware of one. Does the water just evaporate out?

I also don't know what the drip tray is?
Photo?

Drip tray is at the back of the fridge next to the condenser coils, the idea is that water condenses inside the fridge and is drained out into the drip tray where the heat of the condenser coils evaporates it.
A combination of wet and warm is an ideal place for some mould to grow.

Happened with my then new fridge. Cleaned it and it's never happened again.

My fridge is built in. Now wondering what kind of delights may be lurking in my drip tray (which I didn’t know existed) given that I’ve not seen the back of the fridge in years. Confused

You can expect to find the remains of whatever creatures live in the warm world behind your fridge. Some will feed on whatever scraps of food make their way down to the floor behind the kick-board, others will feed on anything they can find, including other creatures.

I really wouldn't want to send you photos! It was revolting. Yes, it's at the back of the fridge and hoping that the bleach will now stop it happening again.

@GoWalkabout and @vickylou78 I wasn't across it either. I tracked down the dodgy smell.

Is it because you’ve been putting things in the fridge that are damp (spraying them etc). That could lead up to a build up of moisture inside?

Zandathepanda · 18/03/2021 14:51

P.s. Not sure if I should say this here because it will gross you all out - I found a drowned mouse in the back of ours once.....

MrsHookey · 19/03/2021 10:59

@Zandathepanda it could well be that I placed the shelf in there, after I had put it in the dishwasher to clean.
