Exaggerate sneezing

This - along with other “performative man noises” such as jangling of change in pockets whilst waiting for the kettle to boil - is why I need my husband to go back to working in his office.

AIBU?

It's not just men, I'm staying at mums at the moment and the exaggerated yawning, and stretching noises drive me potty

BrumBoo · 18/03/2021 07:44

Not even a little bit unreasonable. Both our children during the toddler stage had a phase of playing a 'sneezing game' - scream 'haaaachoooo' then laugh themselves silly, because they were sneezing like daddy. Cute when they did it, murderous when he did/still does.

Also loud chewing/food sex noises - its not mysphonia, men do need to let a whole room know that they are 'enjoying' their food.

Mines already back at work, which is good as the only place for him is the patio.....

Harrykanesrightsock · 18/03/2021 07:45

My DH and DD both performance sneeze. They also make noise constantly. Luckily I am out at work or I think I would have moved into the shed.

TomBarbara · 18/03/2021 07:46

My next door neighbour (woman) does a yelp sneeze. It's the only thing I ever hear from them through the walls as they are quite thick, so it must be loud

ValerieMorghulis · 18/03/2021 07:52

Oh thank god it’s not just me.

I think I may have mild misophonia; I don’t mind banging, sawing, mowing sort of noises while I’m working but I can’t stand for example hearing one side of a teleconference. And the bloody sneezing.

It would be a shame if lockdown led to divorce after all these months but it is really getting to me this week!

Oh god yes! I'm sharing the kitchen table as a workspace with dh, he constantly makes noise! Drumming, tapping, singing, commenting, sneezing loud enough to rattle the windows etc

I've started going into the office once a week to get some space.

daisyoranges · 18/03/2021 07:56

YADNBU.

I was holding a sleeping 3 month old ds yesterday when mine sneezed and frightened the life out of the poor child Angry

Dramallamabanana · 18/03/2021 07:58

DH did performance yawning when we first got together. I told him if he didn't stop then I'd be shortly standing before a judge and jury on murder charges (though clearly no jury would convict on those grounds!). Eight years later and DH still lives and the performance yawning rarely makes an appearance.

luxxlisbon · 18/03/2021 07:59

Omg this bothers me so much. When DH sneezes it is like the house literally shakes too, I just don't get it?? I don't think it actually has to be anywhere near that loud. You can sneeze quietly if you want!

mynameiscalypso · 18/03/2021 08:01

100%. And the performative yawning. We're all bloody tired. Toddler DS has started imitating him.

picklemewalnuts · 18/03/2021 08:03

DH didn't realise he actually shouts when vomiting or sneezing, and that it isn't a built in part of the activity. He was gobsmacked when I told him. He hasn't mastered changing it- he struggles with coordination and mindfulness, but at least the DCs know better.

MrsJackRackham · 18/03/2021 08:04

I have a performance sneezer too, the explosion of noise is unnecessary.
The wide variety of noises displayed when he gets up is phenomenal. There's a strange throat clear (I've never heard a noise like this in my life) then a pee (while still throat clearing) More often than not a couple of farts. More throat clearing. Then the sneezing. Then his nose runs so the Big Sniffing starts.
Every. Single. Morning.

SallyOMalley · 18/03/2021 08:06

My dh has developed a clicking jaw when he eats. His bowl of shredded wheat was nearly tipped over his head this morning .

He has a study upstairs and I have a corner in the kitchen. My office, if you will. So why does he choose to unstack the dishwasher when I'm on a zoom call, even if its 'only' with my team? Angry

cutebutscary · 18/03/2021 08:08

Haha love this 😂 my husband does both performance sneezing and yawning . He also can't sneeze without stamping one foot hard on the ground at the same time 🤦🏻‍♀️ lost count of the times I've nearly shot myself with fright 😂😂😂

picklemewalnuts · 18/03/2021 08:22

It took me a long moment wondering whether you use guns very frequently before I twigged the typo. Grin
Bluntness100 · 18/03/2021 08:23

My husband does this, he sneezes so dramatically. It often makes me jump. It actually irritates me a lot...

Subordinateclause · 18/03/2021 08:26

Stamping one foot on the ground?!?! Brilliant 😂😂😂

Marvelwife123 · 18/03/2021 08:28

Yes I call them surprise sneezes! So loud and ridiculous!

I also hate the noises he makes when brushing his teeth...almost moany sex noises 🤮

Macncheeseballs · 18/03/2021 08:28

Yes very annoying

Heronsnest · 18/03/2021 08:29

😀 Such a funny typo cutebutscary
My exH used to ‘silent’ sneeze, I found that annoying!

Okbussitout · 18/03/2021 08:32

I'm on my period and this thread is extra triggering! My partner is awesome but why does he do more than one sneeze in a row?!

People talk about misophonia but I honestly think it's normal to be bothered by this stuff. Is anyone not?

Reallybadidea · 18/03/2021 08:34

My dad does performative sneezing which makes my mum do a performative scream of fright.

They both do performative screams/yelps if they drop or spill anything. It's like the world has ended. My dad's shtick is being clumsy, so it happens quite often. It is pretty stressful visiting them.

PissTestRightNowDaniella · 18/03/2021 08:35

Yep, I'm with you on this one.

You know that your OHs sneezes are ridiculous when he sneezes upstairs and startles the sleeping cat downstairs.

Enough with the sneezy bullshit.

Trinacham · 18/03/2021 08:36

Going against the grain here and saying YABU. I think I'm a loud sneezer myself but it's not something I can control. Things like yawning, I get, as that is more controlled. With me usually the louder and more forceful they are, the more satisfying they are Grin

imyournextdoorneighbour · 18/03/2021 08:36

Oh yes! Performance sneezing. And yawning. Drives me fucking nuts. He CAN yawn quietly because occasionally I lose my shit with him and he then manages to yawn quietly for a while. I swear my neighbours must be able to hear. Recently he's gone from a performance sneeze to an 'achoo cough cough'. Angry
