Or have they completely ruined Fairy Liquid?

I just opened a new bottle of "Fairy Classic" washing up liquid and the stench almost blew my head off. It smells like someone vomited up a tin of fruit cocktail.

Then I noticed… "New improved scent" tag on the front. It's disgusting!

Please someone tell me what I can purchase that smells like the old Fairy, or at least doesn't smell of rotting fruit.

@NoseOfJericho

Surcare doesn't stink.
Surcare are brilliant products - and the laundry powder too.
Patapouf · 22/03/2021 18:03

Fairy is harmful to aquatic life which is a big problem considering where the suds end up!
Ecover and method are owned by evil companies so don't fall for their 'green' credentials either.

Explain?
MotherofPearl · 22/03/2021 18:15

Well what do you suggest people wash up with Patapouf?

sunflowersandbuttercups · 22/03/2021 18:21

Fairy has been awful lately. It doesn't bubble and you have to use loads.

We won't be buying it again.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 22/03/2021 18:55

I've used Ecover for decades. Mainly because I can't deal with the smells of 'normal' products on plates, cups, clothes, etc, or what they do to my Psoriasis. The lack of damage to the environment in comparison to the main brands is a bonus (and I really don't give a shit that they've been bought out, I'm not a Quinoa knitting yoga fan, I spend most of my time smelling rather petrochemically of steroids, emollients, sulphur and tar. All very much tested upon animals).

I don't think the range is less effective at all. Except for their dishwasher tablets, which are as crap as supermarket own brand ones.

1Morewineplease · 22/03/2021 20:25

I've noticed that I've needed to use a lot more Fairy than before. Baked on dishes need a lot more scrubbing with it too.
I'm on the lookout for something else , currently using much more Fairy with a vinegar splash and a long soak. Supermarket own brands are just the same , though I appreciate that I live in a hard water area.
Hard acting, environmentally friendly suggestions please! ... but not Ecover, thanks.

Unnecessarily rude.

TitusPullo · 23/03/2021 15:22

Ecover isn’t environmentally friendly, it’s just not as bad as some products, they even admit this themselves. I used to use Ecover until recently. They had a huge recall on their Zero range. They messed up and a number of batches caused burns and rashes. Given they market it at people with allergies/sensitive skin I was even more angry. They then took over a month to collect the affected product from me and I got a voucher just for the cost of the product. Like I’d want to buy more of it!

Snackz · 23/03/2021 15:24

I can't use Fairy as it ruins the skin on my hands. Morrisons own apple washing liquid is my favourite and a bargain at 35p Grin

HarmonyHedges · 23/03/2021 17:18

I've just tried the Fairy Platinum as recommended upthread. The smell isn't as bad as the 'improved' Original, but nothing like the original 'Original' in my opinion. Also as mentioned by sunflowers the water goes flat very quickly!

I might have to sacrifice my good knives and buy a lemon-scented one. That is the only fruit scent I can tolerate.

I'm recently realised I'm horribly allergic to Fairy. If you get dry or cracked hands, it's so worth switching. I only use Sainsbury's sensitive now.

FuckyouCovid21 · 23/03/2021 21:30

It's not just the smell that's shite, the bubbles dissipate very quickly and you have to use quite a bit to get a decent foam

BaronessBomburst · 24/03/2021 08:35

I splashed out yesterday and bought Citrus Toilet Duck instead of my usual shop's own version.
It smells like a pub toilet and is the colour of dehydrated piss. Really not the vibe I was after for the downstairs toilet. Sad

DancesWithDaffodils · 24/03/2021 08:47

Its grim. And I dislike the other scents too. Will just have to look out for other green washing up liquids on the shelf to try.
Or, train up the kids to do the washing up, then I dont need to deal with it!!!

viques · 24/03/2021 08:53

I refuse to use Fairy liquid because of their cringemaking vomit inducing adverts.

One small protest at a time.

WhatMattersMost · 24/03/2021 08:55

I am very happy with Bio D Lavender washing-up liquid. In fact, I realised when I first started using it that, because it was "eco-friendly", I was putting far too much in the water to compensate - when in reality it works in small amounts.

melononapear · 24/03/2021 09:04

I don't know if any of you have tried a solid washing up liquid bar but I got one for Christmas and was really impressed! It cleaned up greasy, post Christmas roast potatoes dish fabulously. They don't lather up that much but it definitely works on grease 😁

myBumJuiceSmellsLikeRoses · 24/03/2021 10:30

@Keep1984fiction

Aldis own brand Magnum sensitive has no smell dyes or perfume It's as good as fairy but much cheaper.
I was going to suggest this - I use that too.

It's clear and unperfumed. Great on my sensitive hands.
And it works.

HarmonyHedges · 24/03/2021 11:37

No Aldi in my town unfortunately. There is a Lidl though. (?)

I haven't heard of solid washing up bars. I can't picture it. How do you get bubbles?

I'm not keen on bottled lavender scent either, unfortunatly, although I do love the smell of lavender when it's growing outside.

So, I've ordered a bottle of Fairy Original Lemon. I hope my kitchen doesn't end up smelling like a pub toilet! If it does I will try Sainsbury's Sensitive next.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions!

YANBU OP

I (usually) hate the 'new and improved' anything. They often ruin the products

With regards to scent, I try to buy unscented everything these days when available

Bio D also does Grapefruit and Fragrance-Free if your alternatives don't end up working :)
tangerinelollipop · 24/03/2021 11:44

The Waitrose sensitive washing up liquid is good and unscented

I've never really understood why people use toilet duck instead of bleach. It is by far an inferior product.

BaronessBomburst · 24/03/2021 11:59

Bleach won't shift limescale. The Toilet Duck claims it will.
