Or have they completely ruined Fairy Liquid?

I just opened a new bottle of "Fairy Classic" washing up liquid and the stench almost blew my head off. It smells like someone vomited up a tin of fruit cocktail.

Then I noticed… "New improved scent" tag on the front. It's disgusting!

Please someone tell me what I can purchase that smells like the old Fairy, or at least doesn't smell of rotting fruit.

YABU for not using the far superior Fairy Platinum 🤣. I haven’t noticed that this smells like anything other than “normal” Fairy smell and the cleaning power is very much improved on the classic.

HarmonyHedges · 18/03/2021 11:51

Thank you—what a relief. I might have to venture out with my mask on and buy some today instead of waiting for the weekly delivery as the smell of the Fairy "Original" is making me gag!

YABU for using Fairy, it pollutes the ocean. Use environmentally liquid like Ecover.

Cadent · 18/03/2021 12:21

*environmentally friendly

AlanThePig · 18/03/2021 12:24

Waitrose own brand is where it's at I find. That and the refillable method.

But the problem is that eco-friendly brands don't work. They really don't cut through grease and I end up having to use tons of the stuff just to get the job done.
littleredberries · 18/03/2021 12:52

Hi motherofpearl. There are some pretty good eco brands out there these days. They keep getting better and better. I only post this in case you haven't tried one in the last five years.

@HarmonyHedges hmmm are you pregnant ? Things smell weird when you are hope this isn't an insensitive post

QueenPaw · 18/03/2021 13:01

Loads of complaints about the new scent on their FB page

Definitely no chance of that. I have been repelled by artificial fruity scents ever since I drank tea from a mug that hadn't been rinsed properly and had "apple" washing up liquid left in it.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. QueenPaw I will be adding my voice to the many FB complaints!

I've already complained on their FB page. The new scent is absolutely disgusting.

NoseOfJericho · 18/03/2021 13:53

Surcare doesn't stink.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 18/03/2021 13:55

I was grateful to read a warning about the new Fairy Liquid scent on here a few weeks ago. So I bought a giant bottle of Sainsburys green washing up liquid this time. Sure, it's a lot less concentrated but then it's a lot cheaper as well. And smells v nice.

MrsTulipTattsyrup · 18/03/2021 14:00

The new scent is revolting. I am so upset (not really, but I’m in the mood for some hyperbole). I’ve been using Fairy original since I started washing up as a child, so over 40 years, and this ‘improvement’ is a travesty. I always have stocks in because I buy when there are multi buy savings, so I’ve been able to swap the ‘new’ one I’d started for one from the back of the cupboard, but I know the day of reckoning will come, and I will have to start washing up with a peg on my nose.

I agree that there’s nothing like it for degreasing. My dad has even used it for engine parts.

Notanotherhun · 18/03/2021 14:11

Fairy is bad for the environment. It even says on the bottle that it is harmful for marine life. Use an environmentally friendly product. White vinegar is good for removing grease.

I’m happy with my purchasing decisions, thanks.

I don’t tell other people what to put in their shopping baskets. Do you do the same when you’re in Tesco?

Notanotherhun · 18/03/2021 17:28

No. Halo

Cadent · 19/03/2021 09:18

@MrsTulipTattsyrup

She wasn’t referring to you specifically, get that stick out of your arse.

skirk64 · 19/03/2021 09:23

"Improvements" in smell or recipe are usually anything but. They are there to make the production process cheaper or to meet environmental standards. My face wash hasn't been the same since they had to take microbeads out of it, the "natural particles" they use instead are useless.

SwimmingInToys · 19/03/2021 09:34

I don't usually give a lot of thought to what washing up liquid I'm using, just grab something off the shelf but will actually start looking into the environmental impact of them. I do use vinegar sometimes for certain jobs but I hate the smell.

Luvacuppatea · 19/03/2021 09:39

YANBU OP, thoroughly agree that the new ‘improved’ scent is disgusting and has a distinct air of ‘eau de vomit’ about it 🤮. I’ve used Fairy for as long as I can remember, but no more. Following with interest so as to find something more environmentally friendly and nicer smelling .......

MyDcAreMarvel · 22/03/2021 17:20

It really does smell like fruity vomit , it’s a shame as I prefer fairy in general but I won’t be purchasing again.

Angelica789 · 22/03/2021 17:31

Sick of women being told to use household products that make their lives harder in the name of environmentalism

Crazzzycat · 22/03/2021 17:36

I used to be very sceptical about eco friendly cleaning products, but after trying a bottle of Ecover I’ve become a convert. I’d go as far as to say that it’s a lot better at cutting through grease than Fairy and it last longer too.

Keep1984fiction · 22/03/2021 17:42

Aldis own brand Magnum sensitive has no smell dyes or perfume
It's as good as fairy but much cheaper.
