Elffriend · 07/11/2007 14:48

Bleurghh! YANBU! For the same reason I HATE chewing gum. For some reason people think it is perfectly acceptable to talk/open their mouth etc. whilst chewing that stuff. Makes me want to do bad and violent things to them...

TINSELTOESmumofDJ · 07/11/2007 14:50

i agree! totally! my dad used to say ...youre chewing like a cow if myself or my brother had gum

handlemecarefully · 07/11/2007 14:51

YANBU!

Tortington · 07/11/2007 14:51

i think this irritation is much over rated - i think as one of the "good manners" tis over rated too.

trez english to shut yer gob at the table - and not conducive to enjoyable family meals with ...god forbid mother of mecy heaven healp us ....flowing conversation, laughing and giggling.

i think this 'manner' is counterproductive to the sociality of mealtimes

TheFairyOnTopOfTheTree · 07/11/2007 14:52

Urgh...YANBU
My MIL slurps her tea and soup....arghhhhhhh!

No no no you are not being unreasonable. I hate bad table and eating manners. Nothing worse. Mouth open while chewing and talking with a mouth full of food, hate it.

Caroline1852 · 07/11/2007 15:08

I can't stand poor table manners BUT there is nothing wrong with shielding your mouth with your hand so that you can chew AND deliver that timely anecdote simultaneously. Nothing worse than a silent meal with everyone chewing a la Miss Jean Brodie.
