Posting for traffic - here’s how to work the SOS function on an iPhone. It’s really loud though so don’t test it if anyone is having a nap!

Has anyone actually tried this?

@TeckanandMultra

Has anyone actually tried this?
Yes, I have. And I posted it on another thread and it worked for other PPs.

Yup I have Blush

Nearly shit my pants Grin

Managed to stop it before it called emergency services though

Make sure you look up the model of your phone when you’re searching it

It’s different for iPhone 8 upwards

I have deactivated mine because I kept setting it off by accident when it was knocked in my bag. Unfortunately the Police are not always able to tell your exact location either and if you have no signal and it calls emergency then you are "roaming" and it can not give any location. I am a 999 operator. It can be a good addition but it is not failsafe.

Soubriquet · 16/03/2021 12:51

Even if it doesn’t call the police, I would say the noise would scare most people off.

It’s very loud

It worked for the woman that this piece of scum assaulted - he ran off:

Shame the magistrate didn't feel that he deserved a prison sentence for assaulting a woman in the street but that's a separate issue

I’ve accidentally set it off before because my phone case wasn’t on properly. We driving down the A1 and DH nearly crashed the car. So its worth being aware of how it can be accidentally set off.

Soubriquet · 16/03/2021 13:01

It’s like shouting fire instead of help when you’re being attacked

Help means a coward is likely to run away as they don’t want to get involved. Fire means there’s a chance that they could get hurt and are more likely to intervene

Akire · 16/03/2021 13:08

Mine doesn’t work I have the right box clicked on settings. But it just has the countdown screen and no noise. More dangerous without sound as if it goes off accidently you would have no idea!

I've seen that and wondered how useful it actually is in rl. You need to get your phone out, press the lock button 5 times before the attacker realises what you are doing or gets within range to knock the phone out of your hand.
Don't think I'd manage it.

I don’t think it’s foolproof by any means but i felt it was good to know for say, when out on a run when I have to run with my phone in my hand because women’s running trousers with large pockets are like hen’s teeth.

You can also just hold the lock button and say SOS and SIRI calls emergency services. No good for me though, I’m originally from Hull and SIRI is not very good with my ‘Os’.
