I can't believe this judge, what a terrible decision.
This is what needs to change, not suggesting all men have a curfew at night.
I was so shocked by this decision it made me post.

Damn right OP. That is shocking but sadly not shocking.

No consequence = no deterrent. It needs changing.

Pumperthepumper · 16/03/2021 12:29

It’s horrible and it’s all too common.

Just in case anyone doesn’t know, here’s the SOS function on an iPhone, I tried it and it works. It’s what the victim in this case used to get away.

This needs changing.
Devlesko · 16/03/2021 12:29

Why is his job more important than how this poor woman is feeling, she'll probably never be the same again.

YANBU - a ridiculous decision.
Let's see the usual cohort of legal wonks lawyersplain this shit away.

Danutaisabully · 16/03/2021 12:30

You are spot on, this should be the first thing to change. Makes me so angry and sends out a terrible message.

Uronmute · 16/03/2021 12:32

That is a terrible decision. Why should he keep his job? That poor woman, living in fear.

Soubriquet · 16/03/2021 12:32

Holy crap.

I just pressed it (obviously stopped it before it rang) and it made me jump out of my skin!

What a good feature

Any who....

It’s disgusting that he has been let off.

Thewithesarehere · 16/03/2021 12:32

Surely this is something he should have thought about before doing this? The judge sounds mental.

ChangedName4TheSakeOfIt · 16/03/2021 12:33

Absolutely disgusting. Let the scumbag go to jail and let his wife live off benefits. Or get a job herself. The woman he attacked has now had her life changed for the worse but he gets away with it because they want to keep his life the same? He'll lose his job anyway because I highly doubt there'll be many customers for the takeaway anymore. Hopefully.

ChangedName4TheSakeOfIt · 16/03/2021 12:34

Reminds me of Brock Turner. Cant send him to jail because he is a good swimmer and has decent prospects. Ugh.

Pumperthepumper · 16/03/2021 12:37

Oh god, sorry, I should have said - it’s really loud!

Thanks so much for this, I didn't know. I'll share. Thanks

Actually, I might put it in a new thread. I only found out about it the other day and it seems it’s not very well known.

Soubriquet · 16/03/2021 12:42

It’s good it’s loud

I mean it wouldn’t exactly scare of a potential attacker if it was fairy twinkles and whistles Grin

I just wasn’t stupidly expecting it

YetAnotherSpartacus · 16/03/2021 12:46

They really do not understand women or take crimes against us seriously. I despair.

MonochromeMinnie · 16/03/2021 12:49

I'd love to know the thoughts of the people who think YABU.

GladysTheGroovyMule · 16/03/2021 12:54

I’m raging. He (the perpetrator) “can’t go to jail or he will lose his job” while his victim can’t leave the house, meaning she can’t go to work because she is traumatised and frightened. Fuck this fucking country and it’s fucking useless justice system.

Loopyloututu2 · 16/03/2021 12:56

Thanks for posting that sos signal - I’m going to share with everyone I know - I had absolutely no idea I had that function on my phone.

I read about this story on another thread yesterday and couldn’t even comment I felt so sad.
So he will receive a slap on the wrist and continue with his life while his victim feels unable to even leave the house.
Great isn’t it? Saying this incident is “out of character” for him is so ridiculous too. How do they know if he’s done something similar before and just not been caught. And now he’s completely free to do it again. Don’t forget Sarah Everards killer had been caught for indecent exposure only a week or two before killing her. It’s disgusting how little protection women receive and how these predatory men are left free to commit their crimes again and again.

dreamingbohemian · 16/03/2021 12:58

As women have been saying for a long time now, rape and sexual abuse are essentially decriminalised in the UK. Even if you get arrested, even if you are convicted, the chances of any serious consequences are almost nil.

Why on earth should the rapist be prioritised over his victim??

Justice in this country is a joke

Fooooooooood · 16/03/2021 15:06

So she’s too traumatised to work but he didn’t manage to rape her and his work and income must be prioritised over his deeds.

What is wrong with this country?

Anyone ordering a takeaway in the area needs to be extremely careful.

withpeaceandlove · 16/03/2021 15:14

Yanbu! The justice system has an obsession with making sure that predators lives aren't ruined by their own actions but they don't seem to hold the same concern for victims.
Speaking from experience. Poor poor girl I only hope she can somehow heal from this

NormanStangerson · 16/03/2021 15:28

This is just so utterly and completely appalling.

‘Opportunistic’??? He didn’t pinch £20 off the side to feed his kids, he stalked and attacked a woman walking on her own at night.

Let’s hope they jail him when the revolting piece of shit inevitably rapes the next innocent woman he grabs and attacks, and that she has the strength to go on.

PensionsYes · 16/03/2021 15:49

It’s extremely poor decision making by the Judge who shouldn’t even have the flexibility to make such an appalling choice.

Whoever says that rape and SA have effectively been decriminalised in the UK are correct... there’s a definite pattern. The take conviction rate is an obvious case in point.

It used to be going abroad that as a woman I felt in my experience that you were often treated as ‘less’. I pity parents sending their young students to the UK. Girls and women here are just treated as fodder for lecherous men. (Referring to the problem in universities specifically).
